As much as you would like to fixate on counting how many peas you have left on your plate, you can’t help but be distracted by the soft giggling from the other table.

Your classmates, the soon-to-be Emperor and the siren were seated not too far from you. It seemed like they were in their own world, conversing about who knows what.

“Oh, Edie, you flatter me!”

Stifling a sigh, you take another bite of your food. 

In truth, you could have finished your meal minutes ago. You could have walked back to the comforting solitude of your room or immersed yourself in some after school training sessions. But no, you couldn’t seem to peel yourself away from their presence.

They were both so perfect. Edelgard’s commanding presence and authority was intimidating, yet it was tempered by her effortless elegance and grace. Dorothea, a prized entertainer, stunned all who crossed her path with her beauty and charm—not to mention her quick wit.

All you ever wanted was to be closer to them. 

But the amount of prestige they both wielded, either together or individually was—well, how could you ever measure up standing beside them? You couldn’t even begin a conversation without scrambling for something—what more to keep the conversation moving?

You hear Edelgard laugh at something Dorothea says. It’s small, but sincere. The woman doesn’t display mirth like that so often. You can’t help but feel a twinge of jealously knowing you could probably never elicit that kind of reaction from her. 

If only you could compete with the singer when it comes to social cues. Should you practice some jokes? Your tongue isn’t as quick as you’d like it to be…

“Y/N!” Dorothea sing your name, calling out to you. Your eyes raise to meet hers in surprise. “You poor thing, sitting over there on your own. Why don’t you come join us?”

You turn to face Edelgard, waiting for her approval. Could they really be inviting you to join them? You, out of all people? Was this a trick?

“Yes, Y/N. Please take a seat,” she smiles softly at you, sliding her chair slightly down the table and pulling another one close as an invitation. “Dorothea and I were discussing some interesting habits our classmates have and we would love to hear your thoughts.” 

Edelgard catches herself before you could jump to any conclusions. 

“All positive, of course! Think of it as an informal House assessment.”

“We’ll give you a full recap! We were just about to talk about how well you perform in class with all your little quirks,” Dorothea says. She walks over to you and begins gathering your belongings to move it to their table. 

“I promise you, this is so much fun. The things we pointed out about Ferdie—!” There she goes with her giggling again. It was breathtaking, almost song-like.

A wave of anxiety crashes over you as you watch her transfer your plate to the other table. 

(Oh noooo, your peaaaas! There goes your distraction...)

You steel yourself. They wouldn’t ask you to join them if they didn’t want your company. You find some reassurance there.

You make your way to sit beside Edelgard hoping the redness in your cheeks disappears quickly.

“Now, Edie,” Dorothea smiles, sneaking a wink in your direction. “Where were we?”

out of the other students, he’s most likely to make the first move to talk to you. even if you have a snarky response to his outright flirtatiousness, more than anything, he’ll take it as a challenge.

he finds you seated by yourself in the gardens, scribbling away in one of your notebooks. he’d sneak up behind you to peer over your shoulder, wanting to check in on what you’re up to before engaging.

“didn’t take you much as the studious type and it seems like i was right.”

you slam your notebook shut and glare at him. doesn’t he have anything else better to do than pester others in his free time?

he laughs and takes a seat anyway, then begins to ask you more about the story you’re working on. “i think you’re quite talented, based on what little i’ve been able to read.”

the moment he takes his seat, you stand & briskly walk away.

it’s difficult to shake him off however, as he constantly asks for updates on your story, surprisingly remembering every detail of the page he caught you working on. even when you try being extra snarky, he laughs it off saying that you look so cute when you puff your cheeks out/pout like that.

he bothers you so often that when he’s busy in class or off on missions, it surprises you that you may actually miss his annoying face.

The way Ferdinand writes his note: perfect penmanship (he’s well practiced in calligraphy, of course), scented parchment, and sealed by branded candle wax. He waxes poetic in his note: a plea for your kind consideration. If he pours his heart and soul to you, perhaps you would show mercy towards his vulnerability.

Felix’s note would have small ink stains at the sides where he perhaps tapped his pen too aggressively in frustration. He knows he’s not good with apologies. He strikes out his initial thoughts, realizing there’s a better way to explain what he means. Instead of rewriting everything, he sends you the note the moment he finishes it. “Might as well get this over with.”

Uhhh the note thing seems pretty cute! How about... The apology note with... Hmmm, Ferdinand? (and maybe Felix if more character are allowed~)
