avalance drabble #258 enduring
Sometimes Sara forgets. She’ll think of Laurel and smile – remembering her.
It always takes Sara a moment to remember the other thing: that she’ll never get to have that again. That she’ll never hug Laurel again or get that warm feeling in her chest when Laurel had so much more faith in her little sister than Sara ever deserved.
But then she’ll feel Ava touch her arm or their daughter tug at her hand, and it’ll make Sara remember what else she forgot about Laurel: that she’s always right there – right there in everything she helped Sara build for herself.

I am officially starting my crusade to get more people into DC's Legends of Tomorrow so here is a list if reasons YOU should watch it:
- We've got time travel
- We've got aliens
- We've got magic
- We've got the vibe of all those holodeck centric episodes of Star Trek: TNG
- We've got superheroes
- We've got valuable life lessons
- We've got (SO MANY!!) openly queer characters
- We've got an asexual character!! Still falls under queer but someone said they should be mentioned individually and I agree :]
- We've got openly jewish characters
-We've got openly muslim characters
- We've got the deconstruction of toxic masculinity
- We've got found family
- We've got middle aged men calling each other "partner" with just enough room to think that maybe something is going on between them
- We've got betrayal
- We've got hurt/comfort
- We've got revenge
- We've got a team of nobodies glued together by the unshakable bond of friendship
- We've got a John Noble cameo
- We've got soulmates
- We've got changing your own fate
- We've got major character death
- We've got daddy issues
- We've got responsibly resolving daddy issues
- We've got irresponsibly resolving daddy issues
- We've got crossovers
- We've got everyone's favorite character, Beebo!!!
- We've got a reasonable amount of seasons
- We've got just the right amount of cringe for a show made in 2016
There is, however, one horribly downside...the show is only on Netflix. Having said that, it's not like we all don't pirate shit all the time anyway sooo...ya know.
I beg of you to please please please give DC's Legends of Tomorrow a chance!! I need to bring this fandom back!!

Ok but what if the Legends just started sending the newbies who don’t know any better to the crossovers instead of the ones who are the most tired of this shit? The Waverider shows up for the big crisis and all the other characters are like “yay Sara’s here!” But it’s just Charlie pretending to be Sara. Or Astra and Spooner who were definitely lied to about the purpose of this trip. Gary with a note pinned to his shirt that says “You didn’t specify which Legends you wanted. No take backsies. XO Sara.”

Dear Fandom readers - an etiquette fail
AO3 is not goodreads. It is not the NYT bestseller list.
You paid no money to read these stories. They are, in fact, a labor of love, done on the off time in the off hours of people who are writing for the joy of writing and the joy of the story.
Your ratings are not appreciated. Not by other readers, who don't know you from adam. Not by fandom-savvy passerby.
And not, in fact, by the author. Who again: Wrote this for fun. In their spare time - around work, around family and friend commitments. Around the rest of their lives. Fandom clout almost never "pays off" in any monetary gains, in any form of physical or financial security.
So please stop "rating" us on something we do for joy.
Today, a fellow fanauthor shared this with me. It was not on any story of my own, but they understandably needed a moment to go "wtf" and process it all. With their permission, I now share this with you.
Tumblr media
You won't find this comment on AO3 anymore, by the by.
I have... a lot of issues with this. First of all being something that would be a C-grade in any US school system is not a "Good Rating" for most folks, but many of my issues would be the same even in this commenter had rated this a 10/10.
It boils down to this:
Why are you grading us on something we all are here to do solely for fun and personal enjoyment? Why does it have to be good?
Why can't it just be a labor of love and of joy to be good enough for you, dear commenter?
Do I, as a fanauthor, want to write well? Sure! I do want to write good stories. But I didn't ask random readers to grade me on them. Not in bookmarks that I can easily check, and certainly not in my comments section. And I never will want them to. Every author I've talked to agrees. Is there someone out there who might want this? Sure. Most likely, even! The human experience and desires are broad and varied. But in my experience, if they do exist in Fandom, they're the vast minority. So please:
Don't.

i think theres this idea in the general public that the "best" fanfic gets turned into real books like 50 shades of grey. but the truth is that the best fanfic can never be published as an actual book because its intricately woven into the canon material so its inseparable even if you change the names

Genuinely still will be forever devastated they cancelled Legends of Tomorrow like that, absolutely no one could ever match their freak again or whatever the kids are saying, and I actually truly believe they only managed to get away with so much of their weird beautiful "fuck it, we ball" chaotic energy because the studio thought they already cancelled them and simply forgot they were still on air the last 4 seasons until the budget report showed up on their desk listing something like a cast moulding of John Cena's arms for Nate's evil robot clone and they were like hey wait wtf 😔

Just started reading your 1st xfiles avalance fic, and loving it. Please tell me the plan is still 3 fics? Somehow I left fandom years ago and it’s just sucked me back in.
That’s definitely the plan - actually I have a total of 4 fics outlined, so now there’s just the small matter of getting over my writer’s block lol. But I’m really glad that you’re back in fandom and hearing how much you’re enjoying the fics is a great motivation to try and pick things up again, so thank you for reaching out!
