I kind of hate how normalized neurodivergence is in the media.
I’m diagnosed with a ADHD but I don’t like associating with it. People make a lot of jokes about being ADHD/Autistic/Audhd but get genuinely uncomfortable when someone shows symptoms of being ADHD or autistic: CHILDREN AND ADULTS.
there’s a lot of misunderstanding and overgeneralization about adhd and autism in the media and it peeves me because a lot of people self diagnose when their symptoms do not meet criteria. There’s also a lot of evidence supporting the theory the internet is causing this generations attention spans to be shorter, which is why (I think) a lot of people are self diagnosing. But it kind of puts a bad image on the neurodivergent community when people have one or two symptoms and self claim, then blame their negative behavior on their “diagnosis” that’s not actually diagnosed.
It also peeves me how my roommates try to say that I’m autistic even though I have clearly stated that I am not autistic and do not show signs of autism? I’m getting peer reviewed by neurotypicals who don’t even know the difference between autism and ADHD? They try to self claim autism/ADHD but don’t understand the symptoms and often judge my AuDHD/Tourette’s boyfriend. If they were AuDHD they’d understand neurodivergent symptoms. There’s no excuse for treating people weirdly because they don’t show pop-psychology adhd or autism symptoms. It’s okay to be frustrated but it’s not okay to judge someone when they have inappropriate tics/don’t understand conversations/social cues.
This is a friendly reminder that ADHD, autism, etc, are disabilities. Not something that everyone has and can self claim without being thoroughly tested by medical professionals. Other disorders can mirror ADHD and autism, like c-ptsd, that does not make someone ADHD or autistic. This applies to other disorders, because I see it a lot in DID and BPD as well.
If you can’t afford being diagnosed with a disorder that’s fine. But don’t self claim disorders EVEN IF you are studying psychology. Your perception of yourself is often warped and frankly unreliable. If you are really that concerned seek a professional and get help.

Had to make an instagram post for work today and COMPLETELY embarrassed myself with my mediocre Canva skills. I got the “I love the enthusiasm but-” text message.

I love that you can change your autocorrect settings on IPhone. I recently changed sick to autocorrect to shibby (dude, where's my car?) and I can never talk about actually being sick anymore without having to say "I'm ill" like a Victorian child

Coming from someone who’s been chronically smoking since their early teens I have a hot take:
Cigarettes are bad but vaping is worse in current times. Logically we do not know the long term effects of vaping yet. I switched to vaping (tobacco flavors) to quit cigarettes and I think it has genuinely made it harder to quit, especially once I tried flavors like “cereal milk” and “cinnamon glazed blueberry scone”.
There are older people who vape but I think we all agree that it was to quit cigarettes because “surely it can’t be as bad”. But I’ve also realized that everyone who’s switched to vaping has had a significantly harder time quitting and most of the time haven’t been able to quit. Vaping is a more expensive “hobby” than smoking and I feel like it’s really damaging people’s mental/physical health more than cigarettes.
#vaping#nicotine#cigarette#I mean this with positive intentions#anyone have any further thoughts on this?

Did anyone else watch flowers of evil at a way too young age? Sometimes I look back on the anime with a not-so-fond fondness. Like what was that art style? It’s kind of good not gonna lie..
