Additional info: This big chonker of a tadpole is most likely an American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus), though this is unconfirmed. Found during my Stream Ecology lab.

Animal of the Day!
Red-Lipped Batfish (Ogcocephalus darwini)
(Photo from The Verge)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Galapagos reefs; Coast of Peru
Size (Weight/Length)- 40 cm
Diet- Mollusks; Small fish; Crabs
Cool Facts- While you might look at this and think it’s a picture of your 75 year old neighbor Mrs. Smith, you would be wrong. The red-lipped batfish is a fish with legs. Well, not really legs but modified fins that allow them to walk across the floor of the ocean. Due to this amazing adaptation, batfish are poor swimmers and make easy targets for predatory fish. They tend to stick to shallow coral reefs that have plenty of food.
Rating- 11/10 (A fish. That can walk. And it has lips.)
