I cannot stress enough how important it is to do silly, frivolous things that serve no other purpose than making you happy.

the thing about agents of shield that's so important is that it's all about hope
you can change the timeline and you can talk people down from the edge and you can save lives and you make a difference
it's literally all about "becoming part of something bigger"
aos is all about showing us that there is always hope
it's never too late for a ragtag team or even just one person to try their hardest
and it won't always work out but the important thing is that you always have to try
and i just think that's beautiful

You know, Grant Ward really wouldn’t have been in this mess if he was playing hit game Block Blast on his phone instead

Throughout the series, Coulson implicitly tells people around him that he believes in them, even if they don't believe in themselves quite yet.
And then you get to 4.17, he's in the quinjet with Jemma, still tryna make heads or tails of the whole, "You were right: this reality isn't real. In the other world, you have a robot hand and you're a part of SHIELD and are proficient in the use of firearms and--," situation, and at this point, fw!Coulson is kinda shaking in his boots. He openly doubts in himself for the mission he just volunteered for.
"Who am I kidding? I'm not remotely qualified to be here!"
And Jemma refutes his words of doubt. "I know the real Coulson. And I believe in you, even if you don't just now. You're exactly where you're meant to be."
HE'S ALWAYS THE FIRST TO BELIEVE IN SOMEONE'S ABILITIES, AND THE MOMENT HE DOUBTS HIMSELF, SOMEONE IS THERE TO GIVE HIM SOME OF HIS OWN MEDICINE. AND I JUST THINK THAT'S NEAT. AND NO, THAT'S NOT ME SCREAMING, CRYING, FROWING UP IN THE CORNER. 😭🤮😭🤮😭🤮😭🤮😭🤮😭🤮😭🤮

I hate when a tiny stupid thing pushes you over the edge and makes you freak the fuck out because it makes you look like a completely irrational tar pit of a human being. Like no I promise this is warranted just maybe not about that specifically I swear I'm well adjusted. Come closer stick your fingers in my cage

It really makes me emotional how Phil Coulson has always symbolized union, bringing people from different places and being the glue that holds them together. I love how this is codified into his Marvel appearances, from his roles in almost every Phase I movie, literally being the Superhero Wrangler, to his death leading to the Avengers coming together, to then creating a new team of people who would end up being as close as family. I love how AoS carries on this idea, how he continues to be the "guy who brings in strays", like people headcanon he did with Barton, like we saw he did with Daisy, and would do with others like Kara, how he's literally "the one who can bring all the pieces together". That's literally who he is. We (and him) joke about Dying being his superpower. But I think his real power is that he is the very personification of the ideal he inherited from Fury's "a man can accomplish anything once he realizes he's a part of something bigger". And people do come together for him. He's the one who makes possible the whole solution because he brings together the pieces that solve the puzzle. He is more than just Fury's right hand man, more than the Director, more than the dad of the group. He's literally the heart and soul of early MCU and AoS, the one that took the potential that so many extraordinary people, powered and otherwise, had, and managed to make them work like well-oiled machines, long after he was already gone.

One of the things I love about Agents of Shield is that it is always willing to let a character completely crash out without being the slightest bit embarrassed about it. And yet somehow, it rarely, if ever, feels overwrought or melodramatic. And this is the show includes a scene of a guy screaming at a rock, which happens to be genuinely one of the most emotional, tear-jerking moments in the show.

Not to beat a dead horse, but when Skye says, "Not as bad as watching Mom and Dad fight downstairs," and Coulson says, "That shouldn't have happened either." Like.... Dude. He says it without blinking or making an inquisitive/questioning face or whatever. He says it flat out.
HE KNOWS HIM AND MAY ARE SKYE'S PARENTS ALREADY. HE LEANS INTO IT. WITHOUT QUESTION. HE KNEW THOSE ADOPTION PAPERS WERE SIGNED ALREADY, DAY ONE. HES GOT EM FILED AWAY, SAFE AND SOUND.
And in that last scene, in the SUV. Skye says, "It's also cool knowing that someone has my back... No matter what."
HE'S MADE IT THAT EVIDENT THAT HE IS IN HER CORNER. FULL STOP.
