'Best Small Smartphone' of the Year Winner and Runner Up

Small smartphones are kind of a rare breed nowadays.  All throughout everyone's lineup phones have just gotten bigger across the board. But you can still do great things in compact packages, not as compact as phones used to be a couple years ago but still, there are some great small phones out there.  Also, by the way, I think this is the closest contested category.  Some really good ones there. But the winner for Best Small Smartphone in 2018, it’s gonna go to iPhone Xs. Best Small Smartphone of the Year

Like I said not a super small phone but to win this award you have to do everything in the small phone that the big phone does, and iPhone Xs truly does pretty much everything.  The iPhone Xs Max does just with a smaller display and smaller battery. There's basically no other drawbacks.  Obviously, it's one of the fastest chips with that a 12, it has the same dual cameras as the bigger phone, same ram, and you know what you're getting with iOS.  There's not many people out there regretting buying this phone.  By the way, I'm gonna leave my list of all the reviews of the phones I talked about down below so spoiler alert that's kind of like a winners section but that will be below. So it's even smaller and some might even say the Pixel 3 is an even more appealing buy than the bigger brother at the Pixel 3 XL.  The only thing you're losing out on here is you have a smaller display and a smaller battery but you even keep the stereo front-facing speakers and the dual front-facing cameras. And then, runner-up right behind that is gonna go to Samsung Galaxy S9 back to a 5.8 inch display and this thing has a lot going for it already, great design we all love that already,  3000 milliamp hour battery.  The only points you got a dock for it are having one less camera than a Galaxy S9 Plus and for having a little bit less ram but as of you noticing those things are both pretty small. Be amount of software magic Google's done with this one is nothing short of amazing.  There were, of course, plenty of other good phone cameras this year. It's so good! In second place though we have a camera that does slightly lesser photos. But that I'd say does much better video and audio and that is the iPhone Xs.   iPhones have been sort of the king of video and smartphones for a little while now and the 2018 iPhone is no exception to that rule. If you're trying to do a lot of video on your smartphone you should get the iPhone.  We gonna give an honorable mention for cameras to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro for an excellent use of three cameras. Obviously with three unique different focal lengths. I really like the super wide angle camera especially for a lot of things.  Now, of course LG and others also did the whole triple camera thing. But this one happens to be the best quality of those three cameras.

Firstly, you should accept that machines are imperfect, and there is always a better model out there. However, with little insight and research, you will be able to get a hold of a decent second-hand laptop. So let's go through the checklist I created out of my experience, and a few tips from laptop experts on getting a used laptop.

1. The search of the best amongst the used laptops

You probably have an idea of the ideal laptop you want; maybe Samsung Notebook 9? Or Dell XPS 13 (9360)? Get that idea out of your head. Search for the best-rated laptops of last year. Check how robust they are, and how much its users have rated the laptops. 2. The Shop: determining from where you are going to buy the laptop

There are many options available to buy your laptop. You can buy them from online retailers like Amazon, Craiglist, Walmart, and others, or you can get it straight from the manufacturing company. Buying second-hand laptops from manufacturers is generally more expensive, but they come with some warranty and manufacturer’s assurance that they will work. If you want to buy it from online retailers, make sure that the seller is verified, and has very good reviews from other buyers. 3. Damage (if any) on the laptop

Damage can be of many types. If its an exterior damage, that does not hinder the functionality of the second hand laptop. A little chip will not affect your laptop; but hey, you can use to get a bargain and save some money. However, any form of internal damage can pose a serious threat to the smooth running of your machine. Be wary while inspecting the laptop.

4. Check for purple tint

If the screen has gone bad, it may have a purple tint when displaying/when on. Check for any fading, hazing or tint on the display, and if you have, send the laptop back. Screen repair is very expensive and is not worth on a second hand laptop.

5. Check all ports

6. Inspect the health of the hard drives

You can check the health of hard drive through many supporting software (HDD health checking tools). Keep in track how much of the hard drives are occupied when running day to day programs. If your hard drive overloads while running simple programs, then maybe it is not in a good condition.  Also, replacing hard drives is cheap, so keep that into consideration.

7. Inspect the health of CD drives

Try running all supported file types on the CD drive, and see whether they are supported or not, and the reaction time it takes to run them. However, also take into consideration that many second hamd laptops nowadays do not come with CD drives, and it is entirely up to you whether you want a laptop with CD drive or not.

8. Inspect how long the battery lasts

The second hand laptop should have a decent battery with ample life. If the battery drains very quickly, then replacing it can be expensive. Try to negotiate the laptop price with the seller if the battery dies pretty quick, to cover the cost of a new battery which you have to get, and compare the new price of the laptop plus a new battery to evaluate whether it is worth the cost or not.

9. Ask for an expert opinion

You can always ask you tech-savvy friend, or discuss on related forums about the type of used laptop you are planning to buy. They can give you very useful advice on the type of laptops to get, and whether your choice is really worth it or not. Try to pool in a few key opinions before committing to buy a used laptop. An extra mind never hurts!

10. Conclude

Give reviews AFTER your second hand laptop is delivered. If you find you did not get what you are paid for, do not hesitate to return the laptop. Also, expect there to be some problem on the beginning; some people face problems on a brand new laptop too. See if any upgrade or simple repair is needed. This means that the speed at which your device functions, accounts for temperature, battery power available, and impedance. I-Phones cannot function at full capacity with an old battery without damaging the phone itself. This flaw is taken into account and the system is slowed down to prevent damage to the phone.   So now that we know there are issues with all of our older models, what can we do about it? Why Antminer R4 Could Be a Far Better Choice Than Many of the Other Bitcoin Miners Around?

Technology

Bitcoin Mining Can Lead Global Temperature and Climat to Deadly Consequences

To any ardent follower or interested parties of cryptocurrency, it is common knowledge that the processes involved in ‘Bitcoin-ing’ consume a lot of power. For quite a while now, this has raised eyebrows in its direction on the cost of generating more power to sustain mining and trading. From its point of view, this is needed if Bitcoin is to replace the current fiat currencies. But what crypto lovers haven’t realized, or did realize but decided to keep mute, is the extent to which it could affect our climate. According to results from a new study, it is estimated that between now and the next two decades, continuous Bitcoin mining, trading and activities could bring about a 2oC (35.6oF) increase in global temperatures. The accuracy of this finding is strengthened by results obtained from the research carried out by the University of Hawaii. In UoH’s findings, enormous amounts of electricity would be required should a worldwide adoption of Bitcoin take place. The 2oC (35.6oF) global temperature increase would occur by 2033. This is because annually, Bitcoin trading emits approximately the same levels of carbon dioxide emissions (69 million metric tons) as that emitted by the state of Arkansas, USA. This was filed in a 2017 report for carbon dioxide emission which also showed that a single trade involving bitcoin consumed as much electricity as a home would in a month. Although it may seem like a small number, but the effects of this temperature rise could be catastrophic to the environment. It would bring about a rise in global sea levels, droughts, increase the likelihood and frequency of tropical storms and other disasters related to climatic fluctuations. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has it that such rise could cause a 30% decrease in water in some places, increase the possibility of polar bears, caribou, and other arctic animals become extinct while so increasing the tendency of coastal flooding in other areas –putting about 10million more lives at risk. According to the IPCC’s prediction, temperature levels by 2040 would have increased by 1.5oC (34.7oF) but it is possible the 2o threshold is surpassed before then. Since the advent of bitcoin and other digital currencies, it has received strong backing by investors and individuals. As such, it has assumed a Messiah-like status in the financial world due to its transparency and a significant reduction in fraud cases helped by lower security risks. It is believed to be a means to solving problems, asides the on-going financial crisis, ranging from homelessness to cancer and human trafficking. Also, it is being viewed as a way to ensure that governments remain accountable for and devise means to reduce global carbon footprint.

Currently, in the US, it can be argued that Bitcoin trading doesn’t produce as much carbon dioxide emissions compared to other pollution-heavy industries like transportation and agriculture. Despite this, Bitcoin, like other cryptocurrencies, rely heavily on the coal industry for cheap power generation. Over time, these carbon dioxide emissions add up and it is adding up, very fast. Researchers have been unable to determine what lies ahead for Bitcoin due to its short history and fluctuations between boom and bust cycles hence, a conservative approach employed. One of the researchers and lead author of the study, Camilio Mora, said that “if the rate of adoption of Bitcoin is likened to the slowest pace of adoption of tech innovations such as credit cards or cars, the global climatic consequences would be felt sooner.” To drive home this point, he recalled the hurricane disaster in Florida which happened earlier in the year. If that could happen with a less than 1o warming, he said, the Bitcoin industry is set to double these occurrences. A blockchain, which plays the role of a record-keeper, requires huge computer power to process a transaction. What researchers like Camilio Mora do is to compare the CO­­­­­2 emissions due to electricity generation in countries where Bitcoins are mined with how efficient the Bitcoin mining computers are. An avenue to reducing these carbon emissions would be to carry out multiple transactions in one block. Consequentially, it would affect the efficiency rate and speed of transaction-processing Bitcoin is renowned for.
