With recent book ban threats I feel like we, and by we I do mean tumblr(anyone who will participate), should find a way to put the texts into some sort of accessible thing. Whether it’s Minecraft (I think there’s already a server for it but I’m not sure if it’s just political books or not), or ao3 or something. The texts should still be accessible

The Greeks had a very different view on marriage than we do in modern times. Number one rule to mythology and history: NEVER look at it with modern eyes.

The story of Oedipus relies on him killing his father. Since he killed the king and now they need a new king, the man who killed him becomes king.

Oedipus was a victim of fate, that’s the point of his story, however he was not a victim in the sense that he married an older woman. He was not abused, he loved his wife and wasn’t aware who she was until much later. He had a lot of power and wealth as well.

The Greeks and Romans also married for different reasons than we do now. It was for business, connivence, wealth, or love. I highly doubt the Queen had a ton of input on the arrangement and Oedipus would want to be king.

So, no. Oedipus was not this victim in his marriage, only in his fate and the fate of his children.

Do we know how old Oedipus was when he killed his father and married his mother? Because like, she had to be at least fourteen years older than him, probably more. Imagine if Oedipus was like eighteen, and went and married the thirty something queen just like that. Was Oedipus into older women? No, scratch that, was he a victim???

what if we all did like some cool collab where its like maybe an animatic of "the world will know" or "seize the day" or "once and for all" in the theme of what's happening in the U.S
