After watching s4 my main issue with the Claire Carmy relationship in the bear has been solidified. isn’t even anything to do with how it impacts sydcarmy, but more that it just doesn’t compel ANYONE.
most people I know watch the show and whilst not all of them want sydcarmy to be cannon, all of them without fail HATE the dynamic between Claire and Carmy. It’s boring, dysfunctional and should’ve remained a one season plot line. Claire isn’t a character that anyone roots for or cares about despite being on the show for three seasons now, she has extremely limited development or personality and her relationship with Carmy is one note, poorly written and poorly developed. I don’t understand why she hasn’t been written out and replaced - if they think Carmy needs a gf- with someone that would get a better audience reception. Clearly there’s no warmth for Claire, and after three seasons you’d expect the writers to understand that, cut their losses and move on. ATP I think it’s actively making the show worse, because people view the decision to continue their relationship as not just annoying but also bad writing.
I think syd and Carmy are great together, but I also recognise the rarity of properly developed platonic male-female friendships, so I get both sides of the divide regarding the specific nature of their relationship. Howeverrr it feels like the show is so adamant in its refusal to have them be together that it continues to keep Claire around despite her, as i said, not providing anything for the show itself or Carmy. At that point just have them both be single and move on, there’s no reason to continue a relationship that is THAT poorly received regardless of what the audience want outside of it.
And I gotta say, behind the validity of wanting platonic bonds, you have to question - if syd was white at what point would they have made the relationship romantic.

all I’m gonna say about verstappen today is that if Leclerc reacted that dangerously and stupidly everytime Ferrari made a strategic error or misjudgement in an important race, he would’ve been kicked out of the sport permanently 3 years ago.
teams make bad calls, strategies fail, the way to react to those things is not by deliberately ramming into your opponent trying to end their race.

I think Britt Lower gave an all timer performance in severance but she is not gonna get that Emmy unless her agents get up and start working jfc. why isn’t she in the actors on actors…I know they might not have wanted multiple people from the same show but come on!! This is the kinda stuff that stupidly decides these close awards races and she was also not in the thr round table either…

Finding it super interesting that the script makes it crystal clear that a) cold harbour failed before mark scout arrived and b) Gemma did not recognise or feel anything for mark scout- he is a stranger and she doesn’t know if she can trust him- and only warily does so.
This in combination with mark s categorically feeling nothing for Gemma is….

By the way. This contrasts every single other severed pairing on the show, just so you know.
“This is a stranger” and yet he already knew his outie had a wife, unlike Irving with Burt or Mark Scout with Helly- or Dylan with Gretchen (afaik) and even with that…even with that it’s not enough to find “any feeling of connection”
In contrast there is, undeniably, feeling AND connection in all the other severed relationships.

I don’t think they’ll canonise anymore tension between Mark and Gemma pre-series (ie; they fought more than ep7 shows) because I actually think it would be more powerful if the relationship was good, stable and solid and ultimately it still wasn’t entrenched enough within Mark for Gemma to transcend severance for him.
In s3 I think that both Mark’s will be seeing the Other Woman more- but Mark S already knows his Outie has a wife, knows who she is, that they were in love, that they were happy and yet still feels nothing for her. Seeing more of Gemma will not change that imo, as seeing her in person didn’t do it. On the other hand Mark Scout seeing more of Helly/Helena- including probably in person on the severed floor, challenging his notion of who Hellyna is and forcing him to reckon with his underlying chemistry/ attraction to her….will have an impact. If they’ve already stated that Mark/Gemma don’t transcend severance but Mark/Helly do, I doubt seeing more of Gemma would change that.
plus Mark going back to Gemma, whilst thinking of another woman he hadn’t realised existed will be way more of a headfuck than Mark being with Helly and re-acknowledging his Outies wife.

Just saying that the Emmy FYC campaign being focused on mark and helly- specifically That Shot with captions such as “there’s nothing like making a choice” and “universal and human” is extremely indicative of their focal points more largely. Whilst that shot is the best of the series, it’s also super spoilerly and they could focus on shots from ep4 or 7 instead that are also extremely powerful and could be used for those same messages. But hey markhelly are what they clearly want to be front and centre. Make of that what you will…

One of the most interesting decisions to me that is made in severance regarding the characters relationships is that in episode six, Gemma and Mark Scout’s relationship is hardly mentioned at all. Now I know that this is to some extent because episode 7 is The Gemma Episode and as a result they didn’t mention her too much in s2 at all really to ensure maximum shock potential.
However episode six is THE love episode in my opinion. The entire theme of the episode is about love and connection- and to what extent it transcends severance. We see three of the four main romances of the show more heavily focused on than basically every other episode of the entire show- aside from Mark and Gemma. More specifically- we see fully expanded combinations of those 3 main relationships for the first time (in depth) - Innie Dylan + Gretchen, Outie Irv and Burt and finally Mark Scout and Helena. In each version you see that there is a significant case to be made for love, or at the very least connection/ attraction / chemistry transcending severance, as it occurs in all three examples. Dylan and Gretchen kiss, Burt and Irving have attraction and Mark Scout and Helena have chemistry. And yet, after essentially confirming that love (or love adjacent) DOES transcend severance, the last three episodes seemingly only hammer home that it does NOT for Gemma and Mark. Like. categorically. And Gemma and Mark not being focused on at all in the “does love transcend severance” episode is super interesting to me as a result- even if they were saving the Gemma episode because of the payoff, they could’ve had innie mark review his feelings for ms Casey- instead he confirms at the start of s2 he never had romantic feelings (or really any feelings) for her and that’s that.
Why pay so much attention to concept of love and severance with 3/4 main relationships if the difference in answer for the fourth isn’t going to be important? Especially when considering the effort paid by the cast and crew to a) highlight the importance of the Zufu scene and b) highlight the lack of feelings Mark S has for Gemma.
I also find it interesting that in both Mark Scout-Helena and Mark S-Gemma, one of the two individuals is aware of of two things that the other is not- that firstly they’re both severed, and secondly other versions of themselves are in love. Helena knows Mark is severed and innie Mark loves her (and that Helly loves him), Mark Scout has not a fucking clue about anything. Mark S knows Gemma is severed and Mark Scout loves her whilst Gemma knows neither.
