Progress update on The Turned - about 1min40sec added to Scene 6. Still hammering out the rough animatic - this is basically my storyboard. I think more clearly with 3d models. Them zombies are starting to close in...

The Turned progress update: I've added a bunch to the rough animatic for Scene 6. All the wide, complex shots are done, so you guys should have a pretty solid view of what's happening. There's a lot of close-up, fast action shots coming next - as well as the big story beat I've been teasing at the end of this scene. Can't wait for you to see it.
Here's a yootoob link to the previous (completed) scene's rough animatic, if you need some context: https://youtu.be/lcftFdoVjNc
As always, you can read the completed novella version of The Turned over at www.dymaxian.wordpress.com - as well as a bunch of other strange and creepy things I've written. That's where I let the demons out.
Thanks again for joining me along this crazy journey!

It took most of the afternoon to get this shot set up and animated. Not bad for an amateur with a day job.
This is part of the rough animatic for The Turned - an indie animation project my kiddo and I are building. You can find the latest completed scene here: https://youtu.be/lcftFdoVjNc
Go have a look!

Update on The Turned: Scene 5 rough animatic is complete! Above is an example of why it took so long. One of the village teenagers throws a clay molotov at one of the intruders, hitting her in the ankle. She tries to shake it off, then kicks the burning foot at one of the armored defenders. Then, 2 or 3 other villagers move in to finish her off with flame weapons.
All that happens in the background of this shot. And most of my combat shots are like that - I didn't want them to look like any given encounter was the only thing happening at that moment.
Worth all the effort. And even for a rough pass, not bad for an amatuer.
Here's the full scene: https://youtu.be/lcftFdoVjNc

Update on The Turned - I've added about 45 seconds to the rough animatic for Scene 5. Just about done - this gets me to shot 107 of 117 (estimated). All the main fight stuff is done, so the rest will be relatively easy.
I think I started this scene in January. Fight scenes are hard.
Sound warning - there's only one voice line here, and its at the end. Don't let it startle you.

The Turned progress update - rough animatic Scene 5:
This update adds about 25 seconds to the scene - some of my favorite shots so far. Fight scenes continue to be hard.
I embedded the new stuff above - if you need context, you can see Scene 5 so far here: https://youtu.be/sSGrF74NLp4

Progress update on The Turned - Rough Animatic of Scene 5. I only got about 8 seconds added this round, but kind of a lot happens in that 8 seconds. Fight scenes are busy. Also, choreography is hard. Anyway, here's the whole scene so far to put it in context: https://youtu.be/ZaV4k09Locc

Progress Update on The Turned - Scene 5, rough animatic. Had to do some problem-solving in Blender to get the 2d flames to behave in 3d space the way I wanted them to, so there was a little step up in my skills.
This is just the stuff added to the end of Scene 5 in this update. For the entire (so far) scene, click here: https://youtu.be/DJ7TPtdsYi4

Update on The Turned - Scene 5 Rough Animatic.
I added about 19 seconds on to the end of Scene 5 - but not really, since a bunch of it was in slow-motion. This is one of the important story beats, for the scene and the whole show, so I've been looking forward to it. I also did some reading up on (and experimenting with) focal length in cinematography, and found out I've been kinda doing it "not-as-well-as-I-could-be". There will be noticeable improvements. The last shot in today's update is a low-angle, short focal length shot, and the trees look just as far away as I hoped they would.
And yeah, I just sketched the clouds in 2d so you could see he was moving thru the air in slo-mo. It's the rough version, so it is what it is. I don't even know what the run-time of this project is yet.
This is just what I added, but you can see the rest of the scene in its current state here: https://youtu.be/_Fu7Zgxq9I8

This was a fun little thing to draw. Combination 3d motion graphics and 2d drawing. It's kinda hard to get context from this little slice, but don't worry. Won't be too much longer before I have a complete scene for you to watch. Previous scene is here: https://youtu.be/03qIVsvlRTI

Weekly update for The Turned - January 15, 2023. Scene 5 rough animatic. Only added about 17 seconds onto the end of this scene, but it's all hand-to-hand fighting with multiple combatants, and it's the most complex stuff I've animated so far. Even the rough animatic takes a lot of time to make look anywhere close to correct.
Not too bad for an amateur.

My first crack at a shot from a fight scene. Not too bad for a first try. 22 or so hours of work over two days, and I get 3.5 seconds of rough animatic.
