Summary: House Speaker Mike Johnson doesn't think it's fair that California Democrats are fighting fire with fire by using the same tactics that Republicans in Texas are using to cheat — gerrymandering. Johnson claims it's legal for Republicans to rig an election in Texas, but it's illegal for Democrats to do the same thing in California. Here's the difference; in Texas, it's legal for politicians to rig elections by gerrymandering voting districts. They can ram redistricting down the throats of the voters without their consent. But California plays fair by having an independent commission (not politicians) determine the voting districts. The only way politicians can do any gerrymandering is to put it up to a statewide vote. So California Democrats are going to leave it up to the voters to decide if they want temporary redistricting to fight against Texas Republicans' (and Trump's) attempt to rig the 2026 election. Incredibly, professional hypocrite Mike Johnson thinks California governor Gavin Newsom is insulting voters by letting them vote. Republicans are so open with their blatant hypocrisy, it's like we don't need people writing political satire anymore; the Republicans are writing it themselves.
