[pm] Hey Xander.
I'm alright, yeah.
I'm always happy to provide smarts for things. Sure, no problem. I'll be there in ten minutes. :)

Gwen smiled over to Peter as he began to stir the ingredients together. It was amazing just how human he was--that was one of the many things that Gwen so adored about him. How, despite being super-human, he could still do things that just made him so human, so much the teenager he had been back in high school, back in science class--back when Gwen had noticed him but hadn't said much to him. That was, until Oscorp.
Until Peter foolishly had snuck into the building because of her. Or because of her and his intense interest in science. Gwen knew it was moreso the latter, but there was a small part of her that liked to think that she had at least something to do with it. And of course there were all the events that had transpired after that. But she and Peter had been there for one another all the while, until they weren't.
But then they were again and things were so good. She knew that she was going against her father's wishes, but Gwen also knew, deep down, that with a little explanation and a promise to watch where she was going, he would have supported whatever kept her happy and helped keep the world right.
Gwen let out a soft giggle as Peter kissed cookie dough off of her nose. She grabbed the bottom of his chin and pressed her lips against his. "You taste sweet." She said, letting go of his chin. "I do know. It makes sense--everyone's all caught up in this crazy world, and it's hard, but I would trade it for anything at all." She lowered her voice. "I wouldn't trade you for anything at all." Gwen watched as Peter finished up stirring and they put the dough onto the cookie tray and into the oven.
"It sure is some kind of science, isn't it?" Gwen raised an eyebrow. "And, for all the wonders of biology and chemistry, I must say that baking's right up there as a favorite science of mine." She leaned against the counter and looked at Peter, and she knew then that this was what she wanted out of life--to spend it with Peter, because if they had each other, the rest of the world could fall to shambles (not that Gwen wanted that, but it could) and Gwen knew that everything would be okay, because that was how things worked out.
"I love you." She stated. Said many times before, but somehow this one said so much more--said that she was his, unconditionally and forever. It was simple, but she knew that they both felt this way, no matter how the rest of the world saw it.
And after they had cleaned up there was a small buzzing announcing that the cookies were all done. Gwen removed the tray from the oven and grabbed two steaming and warm cookies from the tray. She handed one to Peter and took a bite out of her's. "So, what do you think? I say we work well as a team." She gave another smile and placed another kiss on Peter's lips. "Thanks for coming over. It's always a joy."

Gwen accepted the ginger ale from Ginny and took a careful, measured  sip from it. Ginny was a good, comforting type. There was something about her demeanor that made Gwen calm down almost entirely, though the danger that they were facing was very much still there. Gwen heard a rustling outside--other voices that sounded like Willow's and another woman's, but turned to face Ginny. "I--It's just that if I don't help I feel useless." Gwen shrugged and took another sip of the soda, letting the bubbles fill her nose and scrunching up her nose in reaction.
"Yes." She whispered. "We'll let them focus on the agents..." She trailed off. Gwen would make sure she wasn't responsible for anyone else's death. Especially because this would be a far more direct scenario than the case with her father. Everyone here who she cared for was going to make it out alive--there wasn't any other option in Gwen's mind, because she knew, deep down, that if anyone died, she wouldn't be able to properly go on. Lost lives were something that didn't need to exist except through a natural cause, like old age and --no, that was it. There was too much death in the world.
Gwen placed her soda bottle carefully on Director North's desk, careful not to mess anything up. They might have been safe in the room, but Gwen didn't want to go around angering the Director at all, and especially for reasons as silly as leaving a ring of condensation on his desk. She sat down against the desk and pulled her knees close to her chest. It was all going to be okay, because there were people out there who knew exactly how to deal with things like this.
And even if that wasn't true, Gwen needed to tell herself it was because that made everything else so much easier to cope with.
Sometimes a little lie, one like that, told only to oneself, didn't hurt so much. It helped to push through the rest of the day. But in reality, Gwen knew that some people had to make it out alive, because that was what happened, even in the worst of it, there were always people who would survive. It was the course of history--some died, some lived, and everyone pushed on for a better tomorrow.
Gwen sucked in a breath, not ready to let herself cry. She knew Ginny wouldn't fault her for it, but in case they did need to fight, Gwen didn't want to be any more of a hindrance than she already would be. One would have thought that the daughter of a policeman would be more aware, and while it was true that Gwen knew the basics of self defense (her father had instilled them in her from a young age) she knew she couldn't stand against semi-super-human evils. That was the job for people like Peter, Steve, Natasha, and Clint--it was what they did, and Gwen just had to trust that they would do their job again and save the world.
And then there was silence, and Gwen heard a knocking at the door. Ginny went over to open it, and motioned for Gwen to come and follow the agent. Gwen smiled and nodded, and went over to give Ginny a quick hug. "Thank you." She said softly. "I owe you one."
So Damn Lucky || Gwen & Ginny
Ginny hissed as Gwen cleaned out the wound on her head, but she knew it wasn’t that bad. She’d had worse wounds from a sewing machine. Her and Gwen had been lucky. Very lucky. And Ginny felt proud of them for getting to William’s office in one piece. She hoped William would be proud of them, too… if he was alright. The knot of worry in her gut tightened at the thought of something happening to him.
As soon as Gwen was done, Ginny stood up and rifled through William’s mini-fridge until she found two ginger ales. She cracked one open and handed one to Gwen. “Here, darling,” she said gently, “It’ll help your stomach.” She pondered over what Gwen was saying. She knew the girl had a need to help. She didn’t know why, but it seemed to affect her pretty deeply. She reached over and grabbed the young woman’s hand.
“Darling, I know you want to help,” she started slowly, hoping she was saying this in the right way, “I know you do, but neither of us are combat trained. I can shoot a gun but that’s it. We both have people out there who care about our safety. They’d be distracted and worried if we were out there. The best thing we can do, is be safe in here. Let them focus on those agents out there, yes?”
Ginny believed her words, wholeheartedly, but even as they heard more commotion closer to them, it was difficult to concentrate on that. She was worried about everyone. About William and every single agent out there. But there was nothing she could do. Nothing either of them could do, and that was the most terrifying aspect of this situation.
After awhile, the commotion outside seemed to die down and soon after that, a SHIELD agent had come into William’s office to collect the girls. Ginny looked at the agent and shook her head. “I’ll be waiting here for William, thank you,” she said kindly, giving Gwen a warm hug before watching the girl leave with the agent.

It's really good to have you back. I know Peter was having a real rough time of it, even if he didn't choose to show it. We--we all missed you. You're so very much needed here.
[PM] Appreciate it Stacy. How ‘bout you drop by with Parker? ‘Cause I could definitely go for some of those cookies.

willow-the-red replied to your post: [pm] Hey, so, I have this extra ticket for a movie tonight and was thinking maybe I’d ask you to come with. It looks like you could really use a break from, well, everything?
[pm] Sounds great! I’ll come by around 8 to pick you up. It’s that movie ‘Now You See Me’, about magic and stuff? Well, illusions. But it looks good?
[pm] Sounds lovely to me!
Thanks, Willow. You're a wonderful friend.

[pm] I'd like that, Willow. Thank you.
It's been pretty wild (so yes, a break could be helpful), and I'd love to hang out with you again (got to have someone who's not Peter to blab about science to). :)
