I keep thinking of the adult James in Re brothers AU, and it's just Anderson living his best lifeā¢. He has remarried with Ms Kent, his ex doesn't bother him, he's supreme commander, Adam and Aaron are super soldiers, his kids obey him, everyone he loves has healing powers; then James shows up to be a menace.

Me: WHAT IF MS KENT IS ALIVE?!
Me: I think I might be done with Shatter me fanfiction. I don't have time or inspiration for anything these days. Also me after reading Watch me and ordering the whole "Who made me a princess?!" series: But what if I wrote an Isekai where Watch-me-James wakes up as Shatter-me-James, AND it's RE brothers AU?!?!
Like, it would be almost like Wiping the slate and Tell me, but it's young adult James trying to deal with Anderson as an 11-year-old but he can't tell anyone that he's actually from an AU or whatever. Meanwhile Anderson is all like, WTF puberty is hitting different with this one...
Aaaand Warner and Adam would already be brothers over in Sector 45 trying to figure out what's going on with their baby brother.

James' trauma response
I couldn't sleep last night (I'm on a road trip and I broke the rule of no coffee after 5 pm). I spent some time thinking what I could write in Tell me (because with the new book out, there has actually been some new readers. Who would have thought?). (Watch me spoilers incoming)
In Watch me we learn that James is actually super traumatized from living in the orphanages and trying to survive under the RE regime. He has PTSD triggers when he hears children crying, for example.
It made me wonder if he has any locked away memories from when he was even younger. From when Anderson would come home and beat up Adam.
We know that Adam would "hide" James whenever Anderson came home drunk, and we never hear that James remembers anything at all. He had no idea their father didn't "die" at the same time as their mother, after all.
But realistically James must have HEARD what was going on out there. Anderson would have been yelling, screaming, beating, throwing bottles. And it went on for a long time. James would have been one, two, three, four, five, six years old. (Based on the fact that Adam is 7 years older than James and their mother died when Adam was 8. Anderson stopped coming by when Adam was 14.) And now I'm wondering if the fact that James doesn't remember anything is not because Adam hid him good enough, but because he has repressed those memories.
It makes me wonder if James would have a similar trauma respons when hearing/seeing someone get violently drunk. Or maybe it would be something even deeper, since he was even younger back then. Just this instinct to go hide in a closet until the threat has gone away...

Let's not be generous, babe. He hasn't had any character development since Defy me when he threw that letter opener.
THE BACKPEDALING, THE BACKPEDALING AAAAAAAAAAA

a) mafi trying to disown the plot SHE WROTE is kinda hilarious, I'm not gonna lie.
b) i was saying it from the very beginning: andersette would be too powerful together that's why mafi had to make them both stupid af to make that shitty ending happen lol.
*power of love my ass*
c) 'we'd be all puppets of the RE'...
first of all, BITCH WHO'S WE????????????
second of all, bold of kenji to assume re would even exist. anderson would literally burn that shit to the ground to protect juliette (and also because everyone there is fucking annoying).
and last but not least, what all of you would be is fucking dead.
p.s.: btw, 'i hate this story' so like... are they just regularly sit around and talk about it? why even bring it up? it's been ten years, daddy dearest is long dead. let it go.

Finally the book is out so I can pick it to pieces šš
Let's begin by saying that I thought the book was alright. I've gone too far down the fandom hole to not have grievences, though.
And let's start with my biggest problem with the plot, shall we?
The group home, rehab place makes absolutely 0 sense. And like, it makes sense that Juliette would think it's a good idea to have a rehabilitation center for RE deserters. It's actually very aligned with her character to come up with something like this, but I never imagined it would be this bad.
The fact that they put Rosabelle there. No trial no interview no nothing. W-what?? And that they (Warner, because apparently Juliette is barefoot and pregnant this entire book) let her remain there even if she slits a guy's throat???!!?!? WHAHAHTTT
They put her in the time-out garden, sure. But have they no regard for the safety of the other inmates?! Like what the hell š Or was this some kind of edge case facility where they send people who they don't really think are going to become loyal citizens again?
(And why the f*ck does Ian work there anyway? Doesn't he hate people?? Winston is the "sort of psychologist" at Omega Point, why isn't he there?!)
I will say it's pretty cool that the RE have infiltrators literally everywhere, though.

I've literally had this head canon for years!! Finally someone else bringing up the possibility š¤
This is what I wrote back in 2020 (Now I'm seeing it was before the pandemic even kicked off omg, how innocent I was):
The adults tried recreating Juliette's powers in Warner's mother, but they failed and somehow turned it inside out.
I think this because: 1. Leila's powers manifested when Aaron was a young child, which means she was an adult when it supposedly happened. But for everyone else it seems to have happened in their childhood or young adolescents. Maybe it happened due to the stress of being abused by her husband and seeing her child being tortured, but I do believe that, just like how Anderson received healing powers, Leila was given skin-hurting powers. Just in the wrong way.
2. We have seen the reverse power thing before, with Anderson. Sara and Sonya's powers isn't self healing, but somehow Anderson has self healing powers now. He claims that he got them from Sara and Sonya, so that means they must have flipped the healing power somehow. Just like they must have done with Juliette's power and Leila.
Why Leila allowed the RE to do this to her, I don't really know. It was probably Anderson who persuaded/forced her. Or promised that he'd give Aaron some slack if it worked, which it didn't.
My head cannon is that Paris Anderson (and Max and Evie) stole some of Juliette/Ella's power and put it inside of Aaron's mom. (Shatter me spoilers below btw)
Doesn't it make sense tho?
1) Leila Warner's powers are similar to Ella's but opposite. Ella can project her pain energy, but does not feel it herself, when she touches people. In contrast, Leila feels pain whenever she touches people because the Energy is on her skin - like with Ella - and since she is not immune to the power, she feels the pain when she touches her own skin or when others touch her
2) Delalieu is so sure that Paris did something to his daughter, but doesn't know what, and we all know that this is the kind of messed up shit that Paris would do to his wife. But this just shows that Leila's condition must've been a more recent one for him to never have suspected anything before
3) There must've been a time when Leila didn't have this power since she was able to have Aaron. I mean, sax-ophone with someone else and birth is a lot of skin contact. Plus, Aaron is older than Ella so it would make sense that she already conceived Aaron before getting injected with Ella's powers. Also, relating to the second point, if this was a condition that Leila had the entire time, how could Delalieu have never known about it? Imagine trying to hug your child everytime and she breaks down in hysterical tears from pain. Are you telling me that Delalieu and his wife never suspected anything medically wrong with her everytime someone just lightly brushes her and she is in pain?
4) We all know that the supreme commanders have been trying to extract powers to put them in other people (like with Sara and Sonya, and Adam) so it would make sense that they would have tried to put this very important power into someone within the inner circle cus we wouldn't want a secret like that getting leaked. Also, as mentioned, Ella's power is super important. They would want to try and imbue elsewhere to keep it, wouldn't they? I'm pretty sure that they failed this experiment with Leila and found out that the power can only be transferred to someone of similar blood or something which is why only Ella can take over Emmaline. (Aaron saying "Take me instead" lives rent free in my head)
What do yall think? Anything I missed out?
5) Side note, I think it would make more sense if Paris Anderson is the one with powers. I mean, 3 of his sons have powers that are all somewhat similar so it would make sense that it came from him - being the common denominator. Like, Aaron can absorb Energy, Adam can nullify Energy, and James can heal, which I think is like another form of using/coercing the Energy? Idk how to explain this part but I think you know what I mean - that the 3 brothers' powers are all pretty dang similar for them to have come from 2 different mothers. It's true that we know basically nothing about Adam and James' mom (other than she died - but hey, if Paris can fake his death, who is to say that their mom didn't either) but it can't be that much of a coincidence that the 2 women Paris chooses just so happens to be able to give his sons similar powers, can it? Also, you can't really argue that Paris specifically chose the 2 women to breed with since the reestablishment only found out about the powers from Emmaline and though I can't remember if Emmaline is older than Aaron, I'm pretty sure that they could not have been born that far apart for Paris (and Evie and Max) to be able to track down people with the specific powers that they want more of. But even if they could develop this technology that fast, we know that Emmaline and Juliette had some sort of childhood when they were young so it stands to reason that their powers only manifested when they got a little older - old enough for Aaron and Adam (at least) to be born.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

The newest snippet has cemented it for me.
James is idolizing Warner. And that's why his narration is unreliable and WE all know Warner is not as nice as James thinks he is.
That has to be it, right??
Right?!?!

OMFG that reminds me!!
Warner didn't even care that much about the revolution.
Where is James getting this from aakhvhkajdhvk
The newest Watch me sneak peek - RANT
(If you're excited that Juliette and Warner got to have James as their first child: I'm happy for you, but don't read this post. Because I'm a Debbie downer.)
Could someone wake me up? I donāt like whatever fever dream this is.
What do you mean James, the ten-year-old (or, eleven now, apparently), walked up to Warner and asked him to adopt him? What do you mean āThe man practically raised meā ?! What do you mean Juliette and Warner ātook him inā?!
āThis man practically raised me.ā NO, JAMES, ADAM DID. ā You ungrateful little-- and Adam did everything in his power to keep James safe.
He hid James from Anderson.
He lied about his age to join the military to take care of James.
He refused to let James join the fighting because he was, you know, a child.
He kicks out Juliette, to make sure Jamesā safety isnāt risked.
In the second trilogy he chooses to try being pardoned by the RE, to keep James safe.
He let the RE use his powers, to keep James safe.
āJuliette and Warner took me into their home without hesitation.ā
They whaatttt
Okay, let me just start with how inconvenient that would be.
We all know that Juliette was trash garbage at ruling North America in Restore me. Two months later, in Believe me, she undoubtedly still is trash garbage. + She has a whole ass house she wants to renovate now apparently. And you're telling me you want to add a ten-year-old into the mix?
James thinks Adam was barely around to look after him. Well, I have news for you, kid, your new parents are either going to be busy a) trying to rule the world, b) having sex around the clock because if the state of the world peace didnāt bother them before, a child sure as hell isnāt. (My expectations of them as parents are so low.)
Second, have they no regard at all for Adam?
This thing that Mafi has made James, Warner and Juliette do, would literally break Adam.
Allow me to quote Fracture me for you:
āJames, to me, in many ways, feels like my own kid. I raised him. Took care of him. Protected him. Fed him and clothed him. Taught him most everything he knows. Heās my only hope in all this devastation ā The only thing Iāve always lived for, always fought for. Iād be lost without him.
James gives my life purpose.ā
And James has the f*cking nerve to say that Adam was barely around ahajhkdjviduvnlav WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS, JAMES?! He was working to pay the bills, JAMES.
The nerve of all these people, I swear.
I actually wanted to buy the book on release day for old timeās sake, but now Iām not so sure. Ā
Welp, at least I have an answer to how James learned how to fight though. Adam had no say in it at all, because I guess eleven-year-olds are allowed to just transfer guardianship. Ā
@effei-s Girl, you and I would have a field day picking this apart.
