Having a genius

Sometimes, I think of the ancient Greek idea that instead of being a genius one had a genius.

And what if they were right about it?

This would make so much sense. Like, seriously. When I get hit with an idea at 3 a.m. and think “wow, sounds good”, or when I try to think about something special, but nothing will come up – maybe the genius is a bit grumpy? And when you follow this idea you had and explore it further, you have conversation over conversation with your sometimes (okay, let’s be honest: most of the time) grumpy genius. You argue, but ultimately you know shit because it’s your genius that has all the answers, but it still likes your opinion. When you write a book and the characters suddenly don’t behave at all, maybe your genius played its hand. When you draw this picture and have no idea how you got this angle or this hand so well.

It’s also a nice excuse when you hit a slump. Oh, no, no. It’s not my fault I can’t come up with something. Or hit that writer block because I have written myself into a corner. Even a genius needs vacation sometimes, right?
