im sorry i didn't make myself clear. yes, ben is portrayed with more nuance in the show than he is in the comics. no, i do not truly believe that he will never in his entire life be truly sorry for what he did. but my point is that the lack of a redemption arc was a conscious choice made by alice oseman to make a point. alice themself has commented many times on how he was intentionally portrayed as just a shitty person who continues to be shitty, and charlie never has to accept an apology from him because in the real world sometimes there are just plain bad people and not everybody is really a good person deep down if you're nice enough to them. and no, i do not think that ben would be getting this treatment from fans if he wasn't portrayed by an actor who is incredibly charismatic and conventionally attractive

okay. don't get me wrong. it is ABSOLUTELY okay to only know or like one piece of media in a fandom. heartstopper fans who haven't read a single comic or osemanverse novel are COMPLETELY valid and are just as much a fan of heartstopper as i am. but if i see ONE MORE person on tiktok begging for a ben hope redemption arc im gonna LOSE MY SHIT. because i get it they didn't read all of alice's comments on her tapas explaining how she doesn't think characters like that deserve redemption and i get it they never read solitaire so they don't know the levels of shittiness ben reaches in the future. but COME ON no he does not deserve to be forgiven just because you think sebastian croft is attractive we all think sebastian croft is attractive but you don't see me excusing a sexual assaulter because of it. say it with me: hate the ben, love the bash

so what i’m gathering is that sahar and imogen had the type of young female friendship that’s really intense until one of them gets a boyfriend and they have a big falling out and they don’t realize until years later that it was basically their first wlw heartbreak

I think one of my absolute favorite things about heart stopper season 2 (other than Isaac and Elle/Tao) is that Charlie doesn’t forgive Ben. Like so many times in media we see abusers or villains get “redemption arcs” (you are NOT Zuko and you never will be) and the main character forgives them because they “changed” or “learned from their mistakes” or whatever but heart stopper didn’t do that. Like yes maybe Ben DOES realize what he did wrong and he genuinely is trying to change and be a better person but under no circumstances does that mean Charlie has to forgive him. Because no amount of character development will ever undo the real harm that was done to another person and the fact that the show actually said that, that bullies can change and grow and become better people but that doesn’t mean their victims need to forgive them is so important.

One thing I really appreciate about Heartstopper is how it puts friendships on the same level as romantic relationships. Like, how Charlie wrote Tao's name on the lock and not Nick's? That was so beautiful. It shows that friendships matters as much, that we should cherish them too.

I actually got so emotional about Isaac going to find the book on asexuality and picking it up and hugging it to his chest?????? Like, that fully made me cry a little. And the little swirl of animations that made me feel like he'd come home????? Omg it was so lovely. Also the scene where the artist is describing what it felt like to hear the words for the first time and to go, shit, that's ME. To learn those terms and recognise yourself in them and finally, FINALLY have a name for yourself; to finally find a description of yourself that feels like HOME. I felt that. I'll forever remember when I came across the term asexual for the first time, and i looked up the description, and I'll forever remember the way my jaw literally dropped open as I went, "holy shit. That's ME." That and the scene of Isaac going to get the book made me SO emotional
