@daddycrcw​​ sent—— 🎄 – a kiss under the mistletoe

          “  ah.  ”  she notices the sprig of ( what she can only assume is mistletoe ) almost as soon as she steps into the club room. it’s not surprising , and she doesn’t grant it more than a simple blink and a sigh. tanaka and nishinoya have already done their yearly tradition of asking her out on a christmas date , which she declined in both cases , so she supposes it’s not unfathomable that they prepare a plan b of mistletoe and hope to find her under it.

          she should take it down. if takeda-san comes and notices it , they’ll probably be scolded. shimizu has a feeling that he turns a blind eye to tanaka’s and nishinoya’s childish antics , but mistletoe is … almost too adult-like for teenagers. at least , if she was an adult teacher , she would probably think that way about her students , too. 

          hopelessly , she stretches her hand up to try to reach it , but her fingertips only brush the bottom of the leaves. the little bell tied around the stems twinkles softly , and shimizu frowns at it. come back with a step ladder , a mental note in her brain writes. that , or she can ask sawamura , though she’s not sure he’ll fare much better than her. after all , he did shrink from the last measurements ...  “  can you help me ?  ”

          she doesn’t really believe in rituals like this. but …  “  are you superstitious , sawamura ? i can give you a kiss.  ”  she has no problem with it , though she’s thankful it’s only him here , and not tanaka or nishinoya screaming like wild animals. shimizu parts her lips and exhales softly , craning her neck to offer a kiss to his cheek. it suffices well enough , she thinks. now , time to take that thing down.  “  anyways , you can probably rip it off. it’s only taped.  ”

DAICHI FOLLOWS SLOWLY behind kiyoko, eyes glued to his phone as he reads an article in VOLLEYBALL MONTHLY, something droning on about how good volleyball players do this and that. all things he already does. when he hears kiyoko ask for help, he’s already stopped near the door and his eyes pull away from his screen, tilting his head some in a slight bit of confusion. he blinks, slowly looking upwards finally seeing what she needed help with. ❝ mistletoe ? ❞ he asks, before looking down at her. when she asks if he is superstitious, he blushes softly, thankful for the cold air when she says she’ll give him a KISS.

now... daichi never assumed she’d give him an ACTUAL kiss, but of course, he is a teenage boy, so the thought DID cross his mind for a brief moment before she craned her neck to press her lips to his cheek. he swallowed hard, and he too was VERY grateful that his kouhai weren’t here to witness this act of perfection with kiyoko’s lips against his cheek. he WAS a boy, and she WAS very beautiful, though he would never openly show his attraction to her as the others plainly do. suga once freaked out when she held his hands during a match, only to swat at nishinoya and tanaka to leave his hands alone or they’d no longer smell like her. he wasn’t THAT infatuated. and even if he was, he had more CLASS than that.

❝ t-.. thank you, that was kind. ❞ he said, giving her a soft smile before reaching up with ease to yank off the sprig of mistletoe and toss it in the garbage by the front door inside of the club room. ❝ i wonder who put it there. ❞ he knew it was the boys, but after all, they don’t know for SURE, so theres always a LITTLE room for speculation. ❝ and why they thought they’d get to use it with you. ❞ he teased a little.

Tooru draws his knees up to his chest and rests his arms over them as he continues his relaxed chatter with Sawamura. “I was just unlucky and tripped, haha !” The setter doesn’t tell the full truth, due to how embarrassing it is. He’d been helping with the clean up after practice, carrying volleyballs in his arms until they piled up and blocked his sight, and accidentally slipped on a stray towel on the floor. He watches the idle movement closely where Sawamura is rubbing his cheek. “I remember that,” Tooru emphasizes his point by reaching out to lightly tap the other’s cheek. “You got knocked out pretty bad. I thought that game would be your last after you had to leave for the infirmary. How is it now ?”

Tooru blinks at the kind words before leaning his head back to let out a soft laugh. “Geez, Sawamura-kun~ you’re starting to sound like Iwa-chan !” A nicer, calmer version of his childhood friend. Hajime can be aggressive in how he cares for him ! Seijoh’s captain offers up an appreciative smile. “You, as well.”

LISTENING TO OIKAWA speak about how he tripped and fell and how that was the result of his ankle ❛ injury ❜ so to speak, daichi nodded, hand still brushing absentmindedly against his cheek. he took a deep breath, watching carefully as the other hugged his knees. ❝ yeah, it wasn’t fun. it was pretty painful, but in the end i just lost a tooth and had a bruise for a couple of weeks, but we still played hard and ended up winning. so maybe it was a good thing tanaka knocked a tooth out of me... ❞ he laughed a bit, bringing his own knees up against his chest arms hugging them close. ❝ it’s a lot better now, though, thankfully. however, i won’t get a new tooth, sadly. so i have a giant hole where it used to be. i’m just glad it’s in the back so i’m not embarrassed when i talk. thank you for asking. ❞ he grinned.

he snorted softly at his comment about sounding like iwaizumi, and shook his head, ❝ am i ? from what i’ve witnessed, he seems to beat you up on the daily. ❞ he winked. ❝ but no, in all reality, i can tell how much he cares about you. you have a good friend there. ❞ he said, nodding once. he had suga and asahi, so he knew how that felt, to have people you cared about next to you. he nodded shyly, not a common thing for him though, ❝ thanks, i’ll do my best. so.. since you’re here, and iwaizumi and your coaches aren’t. do you want to practice a bit until the others get here ? or we can just sit and keep talking, too. ❞ he would be lying if he said he wasn’t ENJOYING this conversation.

“Whaat, is that so hard to believe ? I’m hurt !” He laughs a little at what Sawamura is insinuating, but since he’s not pressed any further about it, Tooru doesn’t elaborate. He’s already here, after all ! It doesn’t matter how. “What a good captain~ I didn’t expect any less from you, Sawamura-kun.” Tooru knows very well the many responsibilities that come with being captain. Despite being from rival schools, he’s glad to know that Tobio has someone like Sawamura looking out for him (and his studies).

“Ah, I twisted my ankle the other day, so I was told to take the next few days off from practice…” He pouts at this. “But I think that’s excessive. It doesn’t even hurt anymore.”

DAICHI GAVE THE grand king a slight chuckle shaking his head, ❝ not at all, oikawa-san.. ❞ he said, scratching his cheek and then set his things aside to give his full attention to his fellow captain. he was going to savor this moment, having a relatively human normal conversation with him while kageyama and the others weren’t around. it may never happen again in this lifetime ! he crossed his legs and interlaced his fingers together in his lap, looking over at him as he spoke.

❝ oh no, how did you do that.. ? ❞ he asked, his hands unlocking and a hand absentmindedly went up to his cheek, rubbing where his now missing tooth was, remembering the bruise he also acquired from when they played against wakutani high. ❝ i understand how frustrating injuries can be when you love something so much.. i’ve had my fair share, for sure...❞ he said, looking out to the court before returning his gaze. 

❝ i’m glad it doesn’t hurt anymore. but take it easy, yeah.. ? ❞

Cherub smile in place, his head tilts innocently as his eyes meet a shocked pair. “Hi !” The ace setter chirps the late greeting. “Sawamura-kun…you look like you’ve seen a ghost. Relax, it’s only me~” Tooru teases, all cheeky, and sits down beside his fellow captain, making himself at home right on Karasuno’s court. “Well~~ I just happened to be walking by. I didn’t hear anything so I thought I’d see if anyone was practicing today…who would’ve thought I’d find you here, Sawamura-kun ! Studying no less~ I guess even volleyball monsters have to do their studying, hmm~??”

   THIS PARTICULARLY CHIPPER captain beside him is definitely throwing him for a loop, but he isn’t going to complain, after all. they were the same, captains and both had similar interests, after all. ❝ walking by, hmm ? ❞ he was pretty sure aoba jhosai wasn’t NEXT DOOR or anything, but he wasn’t going to make any comments. he didn’t want to spoil the mood, of course. 

❝ well, you know how it is.. bad grades get me kicked out of games, and as the captain, i have to keep my grades up.. ❞ he chuckled some nervously. ❝ so ..how are you ? ❞ he asks.

He’s just sitting there…MENACINGLY. So Tooru decides to be nosy, casually poking his head in Sawamura’s space and peering over his shoulder.

“Sooo…whatcha doing there, Sawamura-kun~?”

DAICHI JUMPS AND turns his head to see oikawa inches away from his face. holy hell. WHERE did he come from ?! he was the only one here in his gym, and they didn’t have any practice games or anything, did they..? ❝ o-oikawa-san... ❞ he gulped, rubbing the back of his neck, ❝ i.. was just studying while i waited for the others... w-.. what are you doing here...? ❞
