it probably wasn't the best idea for her nerves to approach cullen while he was mid training himself. seeing him with sword and shield in hand did very little to calm her. kali took a nervous step back when he turned his attention to her, eyes darting to the sword in the commanders hand for a moment, relaxing slightly when it is sheathed.

he won't hurt you.

"we can get closer to the walls, it is quite loud here." kali replied. especially for her sensitive elven ears and disposition. the ring of metal on metal was still so foreign to her. would she ever get used to it?

kali led cullen away from the noise to stand near the front gate, out of the way of traffic going in and out, the opposite side that bull and krem were stationed at. it helped to know they were right there. she tried to look at him but her eyes soon fell to her feet, nervously playing with her own hands.

"i owe you an apology." kali began, almost looking similar to a scolded child in posture. "i have been treating you unfairly because of what you used to be. that is wrong of me."

she took in a deep breath and looked up at him, green doe-like eyes touched with the hint of tears and sincerity. "i'm so sorry."

combat drills are a welcome, if already automatic, part of Cullen's days in Haven now. Among many things, they remind him of his new routine, and of the fact that among the many everchanging facets of a world like Thedas, some things remain the same ... at least for a time. Whereas once he simply watched and instructed, within a few weeks he's taken up the sword himself, participating in drills alongside one of the senior captains to better instruct the new bloods. The sheer amount of people that have bolstered the Inquisition's recently formed ranks, be they long - standing veterans or young hopefuls wanting to make a difference, astounds him sometimes.

started playing my guitar more again. my poor fingers need to build up the callouses again and im finally pushing myself to actually learn bar chords instead of ignoring them. i've been playing on and off for like fifteen years.

the cold morning air in haven never failed to wake her up. there wasn't much to kali, skin and bones, so she had to make sure to wear multiple layers so she wasn't shivering uncontrollably. they had gotten back late last night from the hinterlands, kali sequestered so the young elven woman could recover from the harrowing experience that had been the templar encampment. it was well known by now amongst her companions and advisors that kali was terrified of templars. she did her best to not show it, especially for those who came to the inquisition, but there really wasn't a dishonest bone in her body able to hide the truth. if it wasn't for solas there was a chance that the inquisition would have lost its herald in the fight, kali sporting a nasty cut on her forehead from the butt of a templars sword.

she needed to be better. stronger. so many people looked up to her.

steeling her nerves as best as she could, kali made her way outside the haven walls, following the familiar ring of swords on shields. bull gave her a smile and a thumbs up from where he stood with krem, silent support for what he knew she was about to do. her eyes fell on the commander, cullen, standing watching the recruits training. her heart rate spiked and she hated herself for it. cullen had never done her wrong, had been polite, and seemed to even notice and respect the fact that she was uncomfortable around him. but the closer she got the more she could feel that pull she felt from all templars, like something was missing inside him, reaching out towards her magic.

"c-commander?" her voice was soft, hesitant. "do you have a moment to talk?"

her hair! when kali first joins the inquisition her hair is quite short, shaved at the sides and back due to a past trauma. when her hair was long as a child templars were able to catch her because they grabbed it. if it were not for her best friend coming to save the day she would have been dragged to the kirkwall circle.

but as her confidence grows in the inquisiton she lets it grow out again. her hair is quite curly and wild, a pale blonde that glows in the sun. when she is out and about thedas she braids part of it to keep it out of her face while in skyhold she lets it be free and wild.

her eyes dropped to her hands, fiddling with them, a nervous habit. "how do i continue on knowing that i'm so outmatched? we have skyhold now but i'm terrified i'll wake up one morning and corypheus will be back with his dragon. that i'll be powerless again to stop him. we lost so many people..."

haven weighed so heavy on her shoulders. kali wasn't a strong woman she knew that. she cried easily, panicked whenever she had to fight - especially against templars. she just didn't understand the faith others had in her. not to mention the sort of faith. being called the herald of andraste was not something she was fond of. kali didn't even follow her people's gods.

ellis had not extended a hand to the inquisition until they had settled in skyhold. until they were strong enough to stand on their own feet. perhaps it was the cynic in him, but he wasn't willing to risk his wardens' safety. they were scattered, tucked in every corner of ferelden, but they were all under the split sky. the inquisitor had proven her strength & so he found he had a bit more faith than he had before.
