Maybe it got knocked off the top of the dresser? Or maybe you put it in there by accident when you were getting ready this morning? I’ve left mine in the in the fridge before on accident when I was getting a snack.

I think I put it in there when I was putting laundry away.. I get super distracted by what I’m doing and I do silly things like that sometimes heh

That sounds like something you should interrogate your phone about at length. It’ll probably balk at answering your questions, you might have to play bad cop to get it to talk. Threaten a factory reset until you get answers.

I just spent 2 hours looking for my phone and I found it in my underwear drawer. How did that even happen?

Oriana paused for a moment. She had never been the anxious type and never really was able to wrap her mind around really caring what others thought. She figured that everyone was too self-absorbed to give two craps about others. When she was younger, Oriana would roll her eyes at the mere mention of someone stating that they cared so much they got anxious. While she still didn’t understand, she was far more sympathetic. “Well, if it makes you feel any better. I really don’t care, so long as you’re not eating something really gross and weird.”

Dae exhaled softly, comforted by what Oriana said. He took a bite of his pretzel, licking his fingers after. He wasn’t too insecure to do so, since the other said she truly didn’t care what he did. “Thanks,” he muttered with a small grin. “I’m trying to be more like that.. I talk to my therapist about it a lot. Not to care about what other people think. Like you don’t.”

Oriana hummed in response. Yeah, it would be sad if she hadn’t enjoyed her work even a little bit. What was the part she enjoyed? The fact that she was able to go to her apartment after her shift and not have to think about work for the rest of the evening? Somehow, that thought made it even worse. At least with the job she dreamed for, the stress would have resulted on something glamourous and filled with creativity. 

Awkward? Oriana’s nose wrinkled and she turned to face Dae. “Why do you care what people think? They eat too, why shouldn’t you? No one actually cares so long as you’re not eating anything funky like toad’s feet.”

Dae was breaking off another piece of his pretzel, eating it and covering his mouth with his hand when Oriana faced him. He finished chewing before he swallowed and moved his hand away. “I dunno,” he started with a tiny shrug. “I guess it’s just part of my anxiety.. I don’t like attention on myself really, so when I’m eating I feel like people are looking at me and I feel embarrassed. It’s not so bad when I’m with somebody else, just when I’m not I get paranoid about people watching me. I like to have space and privacy.” He crinkled his nose when the other mentioned eating toad’s feet and he shrieked softly. “Yuck! I’d never eat that! I guess I know that.. but in my head it’s like everybody cares and I care that they care.”

Oriana bit her tongue, saving her good boy comment to herself as she took another hearty bite of her pretzel. Dae seemed far too innocent, but it was comforting. She leaned back against the bench, eyes on her conversational partner. 

“Work was as fun as it could be.” Oriana’s voice was chipper but the roll of her eyes would have given her away if anyone had paid attention. It wasn’t as though her shift was too troublesome, in fact, the day had been quiet. She had even been able to sit in one of the booths and watch traffic. No, it wasn’t a hard day at all. She shook off that truth and brought a smile to her face, the chipper tone back in her voice. “Aww, and then you ran into me, it’s totally fate!”

Dae let out a sweet giggle, biting into his pretzel. “I hope it was.. it would be sad if you didn’t enjoy work at least a little bit,” he said. He paused in snacking to take a sip of lemonade, unable to resist cracking a smile at the other. “Totally! I would’ve been lonely eating here by myself. I feel awkward to eat by myself in places.. I probably would’ve just walked home with this. You saved the day!”

“A total con-artist,” Oriana answered, her tone was serious but her smile was wide and utterly playful. Already, she felt a comfort. Dae was harmless and innocent. He was good. Oriana appreciated that energy. 

“So they do kill,” Oriana joked with a tilt of her head, just before taking a bite of her salty pretzel. “It’s okay, I’ll just have to believe your Mochi is still breathing on this planet Earth.” She took another bite before she answered Dae’s question. “Just got out of work, and now I’m here. This is probably the most exciting thing I’ve done all day, which is the saddest thing ever.”

Dae let out a soft snort, shaking his head as he laughed. “Are not! I’m.. nice,” he stammered out awkwardly, unsure of where he was going with defending himself. “Mochi is a good boy and I am too!” 

He continued to munch on his pretzel, still listening to Oriana as he chewed and swallowed his snack. “How was work today? I get excited about snacks too, don’t feel bad. This is what I was looking forward to doing too.. I was just gonna go home at first but I was too hungry.”
