Shanghai World financial Center & Jin Mao tower
Here we can see the great landscape of Shanghai. Within these series of photographs we can see skyscrapers that include a couple of famously tall buildings including the Shanghai World Financial Center (on the left) and the Jin Mao tower (on the right). These two towers alone are the pinnacle of postmodernism architecture, this is because of the use of steal and glass used throughout the design. The geometry also states a type of flag on the left side of the building cut into the side within the Financial Center, and a type of ancient building style incorporated in the Jin Mao tower.

Wellington Glass Face Building, New Zealand
This glass building in in Wellington NZ creates a nice flow within the landscape surrounding. The postmodern feel of this building really portrays the “glass shield” wrapped around the building. Just this design thought alone really makes the building, it flows nicely with the line work wrapping the building horizontally. This building is one of a kind and I have yet to see another glass building the same.

Parliament House, Canberra ACT.
New Parliament House is a great example of the technically induced architecture that is found in very uncommon areas of Canberra. As we can see in the photos I have supplied for today’s post, Parliament House has all types of line and point design principles and projected as a magnificent building in Australian history. The main aspects that I like about the structure is how the line and point principles are used. As we in see in photo 1+2 the line work contrasts well within the landscape. Postmodern architecture is growing increasingly over the years and this is a fine example of how the theme should be presented.

Absolute Twin Sands Resort and Spa, Phuket.
This hotel resort is located in Phuket and is quite distinguishable with its contrast to postmodern architecture. As we can see in the photos kindly provided by Dennis Milkins, the stunning balconies are quite sharp on the eye and the whole structure has a theme of “blocky architecture”. As we can see in the second photograph, the building has a lot of geometric lines to it, I can see 5 lines wrapping the building for each of the slabs and roof which creates a nice piece to look at. In the last picture we see an undercover car drop off zone, I put the picture in because I thought that it resembled the 90 degree demographic that a lot of postmodern architects use.

Beijing National Stadium, “The Birds Nest”
The geography within the Beijing National Stadium is spectacular and outstanding. The design concept and design process was thought out carefully and overall engaged many participants within the design and construction of the structure. The geographical play within the theme of “birds nest” intrigues many sightseers and tourists. The main geographical play within the structure in the use of lines and sculptures surrounding the premises, entailing the use of organic architecture and nature throughout the landscape, as the main goal of the project was for it to be natural and organic. The architects were  Herzog & de Meuron did a fabulous job at designing this stadium which started construction in 2003 and finished in 2007.

The Meridian Building, Wellington New Zealand
An outstanding building constructed and designed by Studio Pacific Architecture tells a story of postmodernism architecture in a way that there is no limit of what you can construct if you put your mind to it. This award wining building succeeded in the sustainability aspect of architecture, the building is implemented with reduced co2 emissions and equipped with chilled beam tech which lowers the energy usage by up to 60% as seen on Archdaily. As we see in the photo taken by Dennis Milkins, we see the external cladding of the building is some type of steel as we can see slight rusting. Rusty materials are quite frequently used within the architecture of postmodernism, this is because people are seeing a new light of cladding and materials used within structures other than just using concrete or red brick.

Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai China
This elegant building was created by the Shanghai Construction Group in the year 1994. This piece of postmodernism architecture is truly outstanding and one of a kind. The unique geometry of the tower suites its surroundings by the waterfront by becoming more prominent to the eye. As we see in the photo provided by Dennis Milkins, we can see that the tower drastically changes when it turns dark. Lights come on and it really attracts the attention of the eye with its dramatic angles and geometry within the design. Overall the construction cost for the Oriental Pearl Tower was an outstanding $100 million USD and took 3 years to build. The tower is 19 stories tall which includes a restaurant and various space capsules to sight see.

Singapore Flower Dome, (Cooled Conservatories Gardens by the Bay)
This unique garden structure Singapore explores the significance of geometry in the modern day design of architecture. As we look at the photographs supplied my Dennis Milkins, we can see the defining angles of the roof form a type of dome around the gardens inside, thus called the “Flower Dome”. The project year was finished in 2012 and was conducted by Grant Associates, overall the structure has a very organic shape to fit the postmodern theme towards the garden which happens to fit the landscape quite elegantly as well.

Marina Bay Sands Casino, Singapore.
To have said to have been the most expensive casino every built coming to total cost of approximately 6 billion dollars is at almost the pinnacle of postmodernism architecture. The unique design is in the form of a boat like structure acting as a roof with 3 skyscrapers underneath. The architect Moshe Safdie, with (Safdie Architects) commenced building the huge casino in 2006 and finished very quickly in April of 2010. What strikes me with this building about the concept of postmodern architecture as we can see lots of steel and glass being used within the structure. Whilst having curved glass panels for the main cladding of the building it also brings in the concept of a strikingly strange roof. Postmodern architecture has gone beyond its time as we are seeing all sorts of great structures around the world.

National Library of New Zealand
The National Library of New Zealand is a building in Wellington, NZ which was formed in 1965 and then began construction in 1976 - 1981. The large building is a great example of modern architecture. As we can see in the photo taken and provided to me by Dennis Milkins, the building has a series of long forms creating a pattern on the exterior. The project Architect (Rodney Sampson), has designed it in the manner to express the link between modernism and postmodernism architecture. The brief of the library was to retain the existing building built in 1858, in which the building was used to serve the members of Parliament at the time. So this building has come a long way from what it once was. Unfortunately I cannot provide a picture from 1858 but the building was was quite basic and bare.
