Hey! I'm having a hard time with hierdaan, daartussen, stuff like this. Any tip?
Hallo!!(First of all I think you mean hiervandaan?)These words are called voornaamwoordelijk bijwoorden (if anyone knows how to translate this to English tell me please) and basically they’re a combination of a pronoun (voornaamwoord) and an adverb (bijwoord). Voornaamwoordelijk bijwoorden are super difficult to understand (and explain) but when you have a phrase like ‘what do I do with this’ it’s not translated to ‘wat doe ik met dit’ but to ‘what doe ik hiermee’. The voornaamwoordelijk bijwoord replaces the combination of a preposition and a pronoun. The adverb that is part of the voornaamwoordelijk bijwoord is the adverbial version of the preposition you’re replacing. I honestly don’t know how to find out what the adverbial version of a preposition is other than just knowing it as a native speaker, so I’m guessing you’ll develop a skill for it over time if you learn them and practice a lot!
I found some exercises here and here and there should be some more on the internet if you google ‘voornaamwoordelijk bijwoord oefenen’.
(I just reread what I wrote and it sounds very confusing I’m sorry)I hope this helped though, good luck!!!

So I spent 9 years in Amersfoort and never really learned Dutch. My parents spoke English at home. And my friends. My teachers were happy to explain things to me so I got by in school. Your blog brings back to mind words that were fading. Thanks!
Aw that’s great to hear, thank you!! <3

Hello! Could you explain what the difference using Het and De? When do I use what, is there a pattern or is it just memorization which one to use
Hi!! The rule is that de is used for masculine, feminine and plural words, and het is used for neuter words and dimunitives. The one thing you’ll have to memorise is whether a singular word uses de or het (it makes more sense than memorising whether a word is masc/fem or neuter - but there’s not really a system in this, sadly). Good luck!! :)
