Hello, hello!

Some of you may know, I have somewhat returned to being active on my sideblog @justicerikai and translating CRSM whenever I felt like to do so.

Howeveeeeeeer! It seems that my spark has been fully reignited once more! I will spare the theatrics this time, though.

An upcoming mobile game, 18TRIP, has fully caught my attention. I'm very impressed by it's presentation and colorful repertoire of characters, not to mention fully voiced female and male MC. Interested? Haven't heard of it? Want to know more?

I have started up a sideblog at @82mitsu to post 18TRIP related content. For now I'm going through all the interviews, but be certain that I will be posting mobage TLs too when the game is out...! I have posting all interviews for the first unit of characters, others will follow soon.

I was feeling burned out from mobage stuff but this one is just so fun in concept, and can't stress enough how much I love everything already. I am truly excited to delve into TLing actively once more.

indefinite hiatus

Howdy doody.

This may seem as a sudden notice, but it is not to me. It is a matter that I have thought about many times, over and over again. On the other hand, I have also tried to ignore it in the hopes of it going away. Obviously, that did not work out.

Back during my trip to Japan, I had rekindled my love for the Japanese language and it is still strong as ever. In fact I have decided to pursue it academically so that I can continue to work with it, ideally in localisation. After the struggle I had with school that felt like it lasted an eternity, I was quite proud of myself to pick up from where my attempt at university in 2018 to 2020 left me off. 

But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. It is actually a similar sort of situation I found myself in earlier this year.

What I’m doing right now… is it fun?

Helios Rising Heroes was a pick me up in 2020. I had lost my drive for Japanese after giving up on academics, and seeing how Keith and Brad interacted made me curious about their story. I went further in the world of HeliosR, and before I knew it I was enamored with it. So much so that I felt compelled to share this love, to let people know the charms of these characters. I started out with translating content of my favorite character, then to the whole sector, eventually other characters and so on. It was a challenge, and that challenge helped me grow in many ways.

However somewhere down this road, I kept battling this one question: who am I doing this for? I thought for myself, but it wasn’t. It became a responsibility to fill in the gaps. I did not care about North at all, yet seeing that one Halloween event stay untranslated the entire time bothered me, so I picked it up myself and hey, it worked out. North Sector is one of my fave sectors now, but that’s what became an issue. I started picking up too much to do, for the sole sake of it being translated. I didn’t limit myself because moderation is a word that didn’t exist to me back then. Even now it sort of doesn’t, but I like to think I’ve gotten better at it.

Another issue is that I love Helios, I really, really do. It means a lot to me, but translating it is actively ruining it for me at the same time. I feel the need to step away and enjoy it without feeling responsible, but I also feel guilty for thinking so. I have stuff I started and need to finish. And that’s where I found myself stuck at a stalemate, almost to the point of ignoring Helios and I don’t want that. I had fun earlier this year translating the new West sector event, and all of chapter two of SITD, but it was short lived. I went right back to that stalemate that had been haunting me.

The combination of biting off more than what I can chew, with halfhearted feelings behind it, is what leaves me dull. There is no “fun” to be had. 

I will say what I said earlier this year, about a different project I translated at the time: 

“Is it that serious? That I’m dropping a series that I have translated? No, probably not. Happens all the time, I’m sure there are others waiting in line to continue what I was doing, or maybe not. Who knows.

But to me, it is, and that’s why I wanted to convey it in a long hefty post.

As closure, I will share some words of one of my favourite manga. Something I live by, and will for as long as possible.

“The world is filled to the brim with nice things… and all of them are carrying someone’s intentions and feelings.

When those feelings get across and manage to make someone happy… I gain little pieces of confidence,

that I’ll gather together and carry with me as I move on.”

And I believe something like that, is only achievable when you do something that is fun, to you.”

This isn’t the end, it never is. However for me to move on, to find joy again, I have to say it like this. Perhaps one could say I am a fan of theatrics in this regard. 

For now, and the unforeseen future, I simply want to step back from translating Helios Rising Heroes. Focus on truly mastering Japanese (my conversational skills are as abhorrent as they could be) and perhaps even study abroad. Not only that, but find fun in Helios again, by simply enjoying it without feeling a responsibility nagging at me every single waking moment I think about this series. It’s a bit of a shame to leave things here when I haven’t finished chapter 3 of SITD, but I think this is the best choice for me, going forward.

Once again, thank you for reading this post and my translations. Thank you for being able to find enjoyment in Helios Rising Heroes through my translations. This blog will stay up as an archive and will not be going anywhere.

As I said, it is not the end of the road for me. I will perhaps be around on another ventures regarding translations, and we might cross paths once more. And hopefully said ventures do not include a repetition of past mistakes. I am positive it won't though.

One day, I may or may not come back to this either, but for now it is atleast a farewell.

Billy: There are plenty of theories afloat both from inside and outside New Million, about how the utilization of substance and the existence of itself is not deemed acceptable. 

Billy: Save for the scholars and certain individuals, organizations who operate on such a scale can be narrowed down to a limit of four total. 

Billy: And between those there’s one with it’s homebase located within New Million… while having a closer look at it, I was able to scope it down to one sole connection☆

Billy: Ta-dah! That be “Thonis”!

Nico: Thonis… 

Billy: Regarding what Thonis is, it’s the name of a city stemming from Ancient Egypt, known as "the city that sank under water”

Nico: A city that sank under water? 

Billy: Yes! That very organization called Thonis was created by people who had taken refuge beneath the soil of New Million, in the Lost Garden, 50 years ago when substance had come flying in from space.

Bianchi: Eeeh, you’re kidding me? Dino Albani-san, a veteran from the Anti-Eclipse unit. You’ve like, met him several times now? 

Jude: I see, my bad.

Dino: Ahaha…. Jude-kun’s the same as ever

Dino: Anyway. Things have taken a bit of a turn for the worse, as you can see… 

Dino: Eclipse isn’t involved so irregular measures need to be taken but, would you mind lending us a hand if that’s okay? 

Bianchi: Of course. What should we do?

Dino: We can retrieve the substance with ease, so I’d like you guys to deal with the civilians maybe

Dino: Me and a rookie are taking care of it together, but I’d like for the civilians to be taken out of harm’s way and for their safety to be ensured

Bianchi: Got it. It’ll be a piece of cake with that amount of people

Jude: Is it okay to knock down the guys coming at us with ill intentions?

Dino: I-I would appreciate it if you can refrain from doing so… 

Bianchi: Sorry, Dino-san. I’ll keep an eye on this guy

Nico: Sage dubbed it the “magic of charm”, which is how they get all the attention from just their appearance

Dino: I-I see… Both their faces and style are out of this world, you’d think they’re models or idols from one look. 

Faith: Heeeh, no joke. They’re enchanting all those frenzied people little by little

Dino: How about joining them? It’s one of your fortes too, the “magic of charm”♪

Faith: No way. That’s like the most annoying thing ever. 

Nico: It’s no use with all of them gathering here. Guess I’ll look over there---

Bianchi: Maybe they didn’t realize when they confiscated it? I believe our research department is capable of restoring it… 

Nico: Think they tried but it was futile 

Bianchi: Eeh? Nico-chan, why do you know that?

Bianchi: ----I’m here, sorry for the wait

Bianchi: My mother called me again and we ended up talking for a long time…. Oh, oh dear?

Jude: Welcome back, Bianchi

Bianchi: How rare, were you two having a chat? 

Bianchi: You both mind your own business and do whatever you like whenever it’s just the two of you, no? 

Nico: We got a message

Bianchi: A message?

Jude: It’s a directive from headquarters. Bianchi should’ve also gotten it

Bianchi: Let me see…

Jude: To put it simply, taking the city’s current state in account, heroes have to refrain from any activities for a while. 

Bianchi: What?

Jude: Well, it’s a reasonable judgment based on the current situations with the civilians. There’s still a large crowd of them swarming the Tower outside.

Nico: There also seems to be civilians who hound heroes on patrol and hurl insults at them.  

Bianchi: How could this happen… Might be a matter of time until it develops into riots… 

Jude: It’s obvious for patrols, but the latest LOM also seems to be postponed for the time being

Jude: Until things calm down, each of us have to be on stand-by at home or at the tower for now. Only time to dispatch is when headquarters notifies you to do so. 

Jude: What a pain this turned into. If it was substance or Eclipse, we’d have our work cut for us

Nico: And, don’t act independently when you get sent out.  

Jude: Well, won’t be a problem if the three of us act accordingly. It’s a dream come true if I can work together with Bianchi. 

Bianchi: This city took a turn for the worse, hasn’t it… 

Bianchi: Having our mobility restricted hurts, but we must do our best for Sei-chan. 

Bianchi: What do we start with first? 

Jude: Going off on what Sage said, there was something strange about Robin…  

Jude: It’s going to be bone-breakingly hard if it’s on a level he’s only capable of perceiving.  

Bianchi: Yes… However this is why we have to believe in Sei-chan’s intuition. After all, he’s the one who knew Robin the best. 

Nico: I’m curious about how Sage mentioned Robin’s tablet while telling us everything

Bianchi: Ah, that tablet device handed out by Helios, yes? 

Jude: What happens to the supplied items of those that died in line of duty? 

Nico: Most likely that Helios takes it back

Bianchi: So it’s somewhere inside the Tower? 

Nico: I wanna see what’s on it….

Bianchi: It’s not like they’ll easily show it to us because we want to look into it… 

Bianchi: And if word gets out about everything Sei-chan told us, it’d be trouble… 

Jude: Why not lay it all out and then threaten them into silence? 

Bianchi: Why, just why can you only come up with unbeautiful ideas? 

Jude: Haha, ‘cuz I’ll never be more beautiful than Bianchi

Bianchi: Sigh~….

Nico: I’ll go for a sec

Bianchi: Eh, go where? 

Jude: Gonna threaten ‘em? Then leave that to m----

Sage: On the last day we gathered at Sensei’s house… It wasn’t too obvious but something was strange about Sensei at that time too

Nico: Ah, on the day of the Loup En Croûte?

Bianchi: He was acting like he usually does as far as I remember… 

Sage: I talked with him for a little while before dinner. When I entered his room, he put his tablet down on the desk and turned it face down… 

Sage: The way he acted was nothing out of the ordinary, yet… somehow it felt as if he was telling me how he doesn’t want anyone to touch it… 

Bianchi: Did you not ask him anything at the time?

Sage: Only if something had happened. But he dodged the question like he normally does… 

Nico: A tablet.. 

Nico: …Huh, Sage?

Sage: Hm?

Nico: Your wrist, it’s the rosary

Sage: Uh-huh…

Bianchi: You took it off within your psychological world, but that’s only relevant there

Bianchi:  In reality, it stayed on Sei-chan’s wrist. 

Nico: ----Licht

Nico: Is that boy an acquaintance of yours?

Sage: No, as far as I know. I met him for the first time there

Bianchi: Oh dear, is that so? I thought he appeared because it was someone you knew. Like in the way Akira-chan and Brad-san did… 

Nico: Someone Bianchi or Jude-kun knows then?
