queen munjeong birthday prompts—♕ @dalwooseong

she doesn’t mean to make a habit of hanging around younger men. it turns enough heads when she’d rather fade in the background—and scandals are only fun when she’s the one orchestrating them.

“someone spotted you in the company of that bae wooseong.” her mother says to her one day with the seriousness of an announced royal marriage. naturally of course, such important matters are brought up during only the most clandestine of places—embroidery practice.

and who spread that, i wonder? probably wooseong himself. “and you believed them?” the needle in her hand continues to glide through the silk effortlessly…. she’s not really giving the conversation much thought, halting for the briefest of moments simply to consider the novel idea of sewing wooseong’s mouth shut with her prettiest thread. that speeds up her hand considerably. “mother, you insult me.”

“first that—that kikwang boy and now—” she’s all but screeching at this point—if noblewomen of this court actually had the capacity to throw their dignity to the wind and screech for real. her mother does not ( especially not with servants nearby ), and so instead she’s trilling like a songbird, but despite her best efforts, it’s to the wrong song and horribly off-key. “moon jiwoo, you insult the family when you’re off gallivanting with children!”

she doesn’t miss a beat. “even if those children include the young princes?” jiwoo looks up from her completed piece of work and bares her fangs smiles.

that shuts her up.

but there are some things worth sacrificing her reputation for.

( if she’s going to be part of a scandal, let it be of her own making. )

one might be marrying into the royal family through a prince almost ten years younger than her. one might be getting her hands on forbidden texts thanks to the encouragement of a rowdy youth. and another might be—this.

a young lord and lady with a party at their fingertips.

“hm.” her tone is light, as if they were simply discussing the weather over tea, “perhaps it’s because you came?” she offers him an innocent look, then a sympathetic one. the changes in expression are exaggerated and all so very theatric. nothing less for the queen’s day after all!

“as the cause, you have the responsibility to rectify this incredibly dire situation. naturally, i’ll supervise.”

hello! i’m egg ∠( ᐛ 」∠)＿ i have some bullet points about my daughter jiwoo down below, but if you’re not in the mood to read (honestly i won’t be offended it got kinda long yikes & there’s two parts asdjks), have some vines (1) (2) (3) that i think sums her up pretty well! you can also find her bio here if you’d like, and i’m currently working on her profile! 

alrighty, i think that’s everything from my end :> i’m sure most of you guys already know the drill, so give this post a like if you want to plot!

moon jiwoo.... how do i even begin to explain moon jiwoo?

well first of, she’s the middle child b/t two brothers

i’ll keep the details of their relationship vague in case anybody applies for those canons, but it’s not the worst & it’s not the best either

loads and loads of jealousy on her part w/ a sprinkle of bitterness (yum!)

doesn’t exactly wish she were a boy. she just wishes women were allowed formal education and the opportunity to work. her theme song is probably the schuyler sisters from hamilton

jiwoo just wanted to read, go to school, and follow in her dad’s footsteps to become a special advisor to the king smh

i mean who could blame her?? her dad oversees the royal library, who wouldn’t want a piece of that action???

a bit of a daddy’s girl, so when she was young she’d hang around her dad a lot and wore him down with her curiosity

her father never formally taught her anything, but he’d answer any questions she had and let her watch him work

that’s basically the crux of her ‘education’

once her older brother started school though, papa moon’s kinda like “yeah, nope, it was fun while it lasted, but i gotta nurture your brother’s education. plus you’re not supposed to be looking at my books anyway. alright? alright, peace.”

kinda forms a rift b/t them, but it’s totally one-sided lol 

so like any normal adolescent her age, jiwoo starts ~plotting~

uses her dad and her brothers to get in some learning on the side, but a lot subtler this time. they are totally unaware that she’s playing them all for fools

again, it’s not perfect but it’s jiwoo making the best of her situation

and now that she’s older, she’s also using what little influence she has where she can in court to get what she wants

strategy: make all the old dudes (mostly her dad) think her ideas are theirs 

misc trivia;

doesn’t really care for the spotlight and prefers to work in the shadows

her court etiquette is in tip-top shape

follows rules/the law for the most part, unless it’s something she disagrees with

that person who breaks the rules without technically breaking the rules. if there’s a loophole, she’ll find it 

ambitious, though maybe not for the reasons you think??? power is great and she certainly wouldn’t decline playing puppet w/ the royals, but it’s more of a side hobby

at the end of the day, she just wants to be able to get a proper education in peace. the country could go up in flames for all she cares lmao #priorities
