It's very satisfying to finally understand why fanfics are so much easier to get hooked on.

I think a big part of why I read way more fanfiction than books is that there’s just a hell of a lot less exposition

the first 10 pages of most books are always “these are the main characters and here’s some background on each of them and this is the setting etc etc” and it’s such a fucking hassle getting to the plot sometimes

fanfic is just like “fuck it you know all of this already let’s go”

Okay but how about an AU where Dean ‘perpetually single’ Winchester is talked into auditioning for The Bachelor by his family and friends.

Charlie and Jo think it’ll be absolutely hilarious. Kevin tells him to ‘YOLO it’, whatever that means. Sam and Jess are grossly, blissfully in love and just want Dean to find someone who makes him as happy as they are.

He figures he’ll do it for laughs, because what does he have to lose? He never thought they’d actually pick him out of the thousands of applicants.

And he definitely didn’t expect to fall head over heels for someone on the first day of filming.

Dean already knows who he’s going to choose, but he plays along anyway. He’s gotten this far, after all (and it helps that the bachelorettes are intelligent and funny and downright gorgeous).

When the time comes to hand out the final rose, Dean barely even hesitates. He’s acutely aware of everyone’s eyes on him as he picks it up, stares at it with mounting apprehension. Then, his heart almost hammering out of his chest, he turns around and offers it to the show’s host, Castiel Novak.

And after a long, long moment of stunned silence, Castiel accepts.
