Mamdani being mayor or nyc. Obviously he’s an antisemite, he’s less obviously (but still convincingly) pro terrorism, but these things are not what primary voters cared about. They wanted a socialist to come in and make the quality of life cheaper and better as their gift to the poor who didn’t vote for mamdani. /S
Why would the poor not vote in droves for mamdani’s magical market model to fix all their woes? Because it’s bullshit. And not even the populous slam dunk of blame rich Jew lawyers, Jew bankers, Jew landlords and Jew bosses is enough to convince them otherwise.
First, mamdani has a vanishingly small chance of getting anywhere with any of his promises. He’s a baby in politics who knows no one of consequence and has no favors to trade.
Second, every promise he’s made would have the opposite of its promised outcome:
Set up free grocery stores? They will be a nightmare to run and stock (and frankly will be the target of scalpers who will just go in and buy up the subsidized products and sell them around town at market price with fake products mixed in.) they will fuck with the bodaga system, which is the local small business markets, as unlicensed resellers expand throughout the city and won’t need to contend with inspections and reputation of a brick and mortar store. They will get seriously hurt, they were already on life support and being kept alive by selling skunk weed and illegal vapes.
Freeze rents? The point is to bring rent down right? Well rent is high because landlords don’t want to deal with tenants or repair costs keeping old housing off the market and more importantly developers don’t want to lose money do there’s no new houses going up. You effectively tell the owners of houses not to rent them and the makers of new houses not to build in nyc.
Congrats 🎉 rich intellectual people! You tried punishing “non intellectual rich people” but only managed to further punish poor people and immigrants!! Fuck you!
It’s the same story with all his bullshit promises. This isn’t even considering how complicated keeping nyc running is. He’s absolutely not qualified to do that. Literally just getting the garbage taken out and the parks safe and open to everyone is spectacularly hard let alone the current gathering storms of nyc’s failing prisons, subways (which are controlled by the state not the city), terrorism prevention, water pipes, gas lines, highways like the BQE, legal cases, tax base, and budget.
I hate him for being a Jew hating terrorism promoting knob of shit. I also understand enough economics to know he’s at best going to do nothing, either way running the city into the ground by neglecting to addressing existential issues that are close to breaking point.
If you need to vote for a socialist, for the love of god please make sure they aren’t the kind who thinks setting their bed on fire in the middle of winter is a good way to save on gas heating.

so… in your opinion was there ever actually a good mayor of nyc? Because looking at the historical record it looks like anyone who tried to take any position on any problem of the city only made it worse
It’s untrue that all mayors of nyc are bad. They are all hated but most are qualified. They often have to choose which part of the city they prioritize. Most mayors specialize in what they wanted to get done.
like Bloomberg wanted the city to be an economic and cultural center. He beefed up the city cleaning and increased policing (are you seeing the trade offs?) nyc was considered too clean and too safe and too business friendly. This opened up Brooklyn tho. Upside? Lots of people moved there and started business, revitalizing areas that were full of broken buildings and unsafe streets for everyone of all colors. They also helped fund city schools and other stuff that property taxes pay for. Downside? Gentrification. A huge number of home owners sold and cultural institutions that were sustained by unhip, older, more ethnic residents of the city couldn’t afford to keep compared to a hipster bar or restaurant or apartment complex. Rents were cheaper but they didn’t stay that way.
I liked deblazio. Full stop. He was good on police and especially housing. He cared about the city and funny enough he would have gotten more done if it wasn’t for his feud with como.
I liked the mayor who fixed up the subways when I was a kid (Dinkins I think) there are a bunch. Even really terrible mayors like Giuliani were good at their thing (Giuliani actually was really law and order about corruption and organized crime.)
NYC has NEVER had a totally unqualified mayor or at least no one as unqualified and unrealistic as mamdani. I would literally believe in Pete Davidson to run the city better. At least he lives in the reality of nyc. Mamdani is so Twitter pilled he’s basically in a different reality. Just from what he proposed and what he’s done with himself so far you can tell he’s not ready to run a restaurant franchise let alone the largest most complex and economically significant city in America through its most difficult time since the 1970s when it was almost bankrupt.
It’s like electing a reality tv star to run the most powerful country in the world and give him a 100 year pandemic to navigate through … only nyc has fewer back ups and support systems if shit hits the fan. So … best not invest in a life there unless you are good with hard times… in a knife fighting kinda way.

As a non-Jew, the sheer vitriol I see towards Zionism baffles me. And I criticise Zionism; I think it has absolutely led to terrible conditions for Palestinians.
But surely...surely, the response to Zionism should be "wow, we really fucked up with how we treated Jews and now they don't want to live with us anymore. We should probably make the world safer for them so they do want to live with us again."
Instead it's, "we're going to spend 2,000 years harassing, abusing, attacking and murdering Jews but how DARE they want to escape us?? That's so entitled! Have you EVER heard of anything so UTTERLY SELFISH as wanting your own country where you won't be murdered for your ethnoreligion????"
Like, if you're anti-Zionist surely your main priority should be tackling antisemitism? That would be the logical way to end Zionism if you're so absolutely certain it shouldn't exist????
Its like a husband beating his wife and then throwing a fit when she decides she wants to move out.
Like, do you know who I blame most of all for the catastrophe in Gaza right now? Most of all? Because it's not Israelis and it's not IDF and its not Netanyahu. It's not Palestinians and it's not Gaza and it's not Hamas.
Who I blame most of all is the rest of the world for letting it get this bad. And it all starts with the fact that the world decided killing Jews was okay, and continued that belief for 2,000 years.
You're a non-Jew and want things to get better in Israel and Palestine? Start being fucking nicer to Jews, because it is our own fucking societies that started this shitshow.

one thing i find interesting is that 80s bruce does genuinely seem to be less rigid about his no-killing rule -- not in the sense that he ever does kill (at least in the comics i've read), but he's much less concerned about preventing deaths of criminals, or in some cases even indirectly killing them. the famous example here is probably bruce jumping from the helicopter without the joker in death in the family -- versus deliberately resuscitating him in joker's last laugh -- but the one i personally find most striking comes from the outsiders (1985) annual.
bruce is pursuing a burglar responsible for a series of break-ins. he gives chase across the rooftops. eventually, the burglar slips and falls while jumping between buildings, hits his head, and dies. bruce's reaction to all this, is, well:
Tumblr media
Bruce: Tough break, Milton ... Bruce: ... but you started it. -- Outsiders (1985) Annual #1
... yeah! that's a radically different reaction than i think, say, 2000 bruce -- or anyone else in the batfamily around that time -- would have to unintentionally, even indirectly killing someone!
i'm not entirely sure what to think about this. but i do find it interesting.

You guys know that study where two groups of people were shown an identical short clip of a baby and one group was told it was a baby girl and the other group was told it's a baby boy, and that greatly affected the peoples' perception of the baby's personality and behavior? Now imagine that, but woke. That's astrology.

i’m gonna say it because i’m not sure if anyone else here has: there are way too many modern american, white, LGBT leftists who staunchly advocate for palestine and palestinians because they prop up jews as a scapegoat to assuage their white guilt and white self loathing
such “leftists” externalize their feelings of white guilt under the guise of “activism,” in which the jew (us) must play the punching bag on behalf of palestinians so that they can feel as if they’ve fulfilled their role as white-ally. targeting, harassing, wishing death upon one of the most vulnerable minority groups to rack up approval from POC and fellow leftists as a “good” white leftie.
such is the nature of antisemitism. the jew is always to blame, regardless of who is pointing the accusing finger at us

i feel like the only argument for why “globalize the intifada” is harmful and antisemitic that matters was made by this one guy who posted a video on instagram explaining: there’s a difference between “holocaust” and “The Holocaust” similarly to the difference between “intifada” versus “The Intifada.”
which is to say, their reference to and chanting for “THE intifada” makes it clear that it’s not a vague rebellion, but a continuation of terrorist violence targeting jews and israelis. similarly, something can be a holocaust, but only one thing is “THE Holocaust” and that is the mass murder of 6 million jews by the hands of the nazi regime.
so yeah shout out to that guy.

Everyone needs to be very clear about what it means that when someone hacked Elmo on Twitter, Elmo the muppet, everyone's favorite little red furry friend, they didn't just use him as a mouthpiece to yell about Trump and Epstein.
People have isolated the one tweet that says that Trump needs to release the Epstein files and calls him a "child fucker." But there was a series of tweets, and the mention of Trump and Epstein came within the context of advancing the centuries-old antisemitic conspiracy theory that Jews control the world, Netanyahu specifically controls Trump because of Trump's association with Epstein and came with two explicit and unvarnished calls for the murder of all Jews.
Viewing this single tweet about the Epstein files in isolation makes it appear like the hacker had some noble purpose. They did not. Their only purpose was to call for antisemitic violence.
The hacker cannot be applauded for any part of what they did.
