a (non-comprehensive) list of specific whumpy things that have happened to me to torture your characters with!

being in excruciating stomach pain for two days, getting stuck in the ER waiting room for 10 hours (not an exaggeration), only to be told it was nothing and sent home with medication. (note: the medication did not work. still hurt for weeks after)

woke up one day with a really badly hurt thumb. didn’t do anything to cause it. just happened. had to wear a brace for months. it still hurts, almost a year later, and my many doctors appointments have told me nothing is wrong with it.

went swimming in a lake with mum on a camping trip and got hypothermia, and since all our towels were wet and we didn’t have any blankets i was freezing for hours.

broke my arm falling off of the monkey bars first day of spring break in third grade. the counselor at my camp thought i just bruised it, so they let me sleep on a mat for two hours. turned out i had gone into shock! who knew.

when i got COVID i was so miserable and sick for days that i just sobbed. everything hurt, my medication wasn’t working, and nobody could help me since my dad was also sick. so i just sobbed for hours on end every day.

went roller skating every two days with a sprained ankle for WEEKS. no treatment, no wraps, constant pressure and pain. fun times.

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

the thing about d/s is that for virtually any ship i can be sold on either character in either role. arguments about whether a given character could or would dom are virtually always deeply silly and tend, when they lean into the idea that a given character could never dom because they're just too weak-willed, incompetent, naive, or helpless, to be the product of unexamined biases percolating up.

would this character dom (or sub) is almost never an interesting question. how would this character dom (or sub) is much more interesting. what do they get out of it? how do they feel about it? how experienced are they? are they confident or awkward? what kinks do they enjoy? what are their limits and how do they communicate them? what is the dynamic with their partner like? does it shift in the bedroom, or does it stay the same? et cetera. the same as any good erotica, it's got to be about these specific people, not faceless automatons filling the prescribed roles, or it's boring

I present: Stunt double whump. Failing equipments. A strenuous scene being filmed over and over again. Fall scenes where a rope prevents from falling but not elastic so left with impact. Fight scenes where the 'play' became too real either because a whumper and unknowingly. Not being cared enough because they're not the 'actual' actor/actress

BONUS: the actor/actress who goes with the stunt double takes care of stunt double secretly... until director!whumper went too far and stunt double almost dies from a scene.

Cue pissed off and protective actor/actress.

Someone needs to call OSHA on this director's ass.
