kind of wild how much fiction still treats torture as something that objectively works when every study has shown that it does not work at all and is possibly the least effective way to get correct information

There have been a couple of posts going around about how smut writers have the challenge of keeping a sex scene interesting when there's only a few different actions and a few different body parts to talk about
And yes, funny jokes about writing, but when I see posts like these I want to scream
If you feel like the sex scene you're writing is repetitive, no number of synonyms for "thrust" will help you. Synonyms for "cock" or "cunt" will REALLY not help you.
Sex scenes are character studies as much as they are action scenes. What are the characters' frameworks for what they're doing? Emotions, thoughts, specific physical sensations. If there are metaphors, do the metaphors make sense with the characters' experiences/the story's theme's/the setting? Is the sex scene completing a character arc, even a small one? Is there a character arc within the sex scene itself, even a small one?
A really good sex scene is specific and grounded to the physicality, emotions, and thoughts of the characters involved. Even if it's a PWP!
It's been said that the largest sex organ is the brain, and this is not a joke, especially when we're talking about the medium of the written word!

Don’t get me wrong, I love all the ‘immortal Jaskier’ theories but honestly credit to Joey Batey because even thought Jaskier doesn’t appear to physically age, there’s so much about his behaviour in every scene that makes me feel how old he’s meant to be.
He’s energetic and naive and cocky when he first meets Geralt. All of that energy and curiosity is still with him at the betrothal feast but it’s more controlled, deliberate and self-aware in a way he wasn’t before. Then, when we see him just before Geralt finds the djinn, he’s not only more reserved (which, sure, he’s had his heart broken so that makes sense) but he’s also more mature in how he interacts with Geralt. His “talk to me” shows genuine concern and there’s nothing teasing about it. It’s only afterwards, once he knows what Geralt is doing and realises/decides the witcher is being ridiculous, that he returns to that sort of behaviour. And even after he’s been cursed and cured, his interactions with Yennefer and Geralt are still tempered by that maturity.
And then the dragon quest.
Yennefer’s comment about Jaskier’s “crow’s feet” might a be intended to convey his aging but the way Joey plays his reaction to the comment is far more effective. Think of the difference between “Yeah, well, you’re jokes are…old” and “You don’t want to keep a man with…bread in his pants waiting”. In both cases he’s trying to be witty in an attempt to break the tension. And while in the first instance Geralt hadn’t insulted him, the sense of discomfort is comparable. In response to Yennefer’s comment, a younger Jaskier would have been annoyed by his own inability to come up with a witty reply. But that’s not how it plays out. Instead his tone is sad, deflated. His joke doesn’t land but he doesn’t care. That’s not what it’s about.
Then, there’s his asking Geralt to go to the coast. When they first met, Jaskier was drawn to Geralt by his desire for adventure. That man wouldn’t have tried to convince the witcher to “get away for a while,” he would said something about how there are other monsters to slay, more people to help, other adventures to be had. And, true, this also speaks to how their relationship has changed and Jaskier has come to see Geralt as more than just his abilities.  But it also speaks of growth - the kind that only comes with experience. The desire for peace and the understanding that life can’t always be danger and adventure and excitement.
And then, when Geralt turns on him, blames him for everything and tell him he wants him gone, Jaskier doesn’t engage. He says “that’s not fair” (soft and heartbroken) but that’s it. There’s no fighting, no yelling, no accusations or corrections. He takes it and he walks away. That energy, the one that used to bleed into every word and movement, the one he learned to control and channel where he wanted it, disappears. When he says his goodbye and leaves he’s deflated and heartbroken but, notably, not exhausted. He’s learned when there’s nothing words can do, when something isn’t worth the effort, and (most importantly) when he deserves more than what he’s given.  And walking away hurts like hell, we see that so clearly in Joey’s performance (here and in season 2), but it’s also such an important show of his strength and maturity. No argument, no begging to be taken along, no jokes or snark, just acknowledgement and retreat.
This got longer than I expected and there’s still so many other things I could point out but you get the idea. Despite his lack of ‘aging,’ it’s so clear that we really are seeing Jaskier over years, decades even, of his life and that’s not an easy thing to show. So shout out to Joey Batey and his excellent performance.

Funny how Geralt always stayed on the sidelines with Jaskier's conquests for fear of a broken heart and yet he got a front row seat to watch the bard fall in love with the prince.
Geralt would cut the bard off when he started talking about the virtues of whatever man or woman he spent the night with, but he had no choice but to listen to Jaskier when he told him how the prince learned his song, because the poet appealed to their "best friends" bond.
Geralt smiled inwardly when the bard left his conquest for the night alone to go order him a bath and wash his hair with special soaps and oils after the hunts. And then the witcher had to witness Jaskier leaving him to go order Radovid a bath because "his long blond hair has never been anything less than perfect and cannot be left uncared for, Geralt."
Geralt always distracted the bard with a story of past hauntings with terrifying creatures every time Jaskier began to compose a love song for his conquest, but nothing could distract the poet when he began to talk about how beautiful and bright Radovid's eyes were and how he wanted to find the perfect words to describe them.
Geralt faked annoyance every time Jaskier asked to sleep next to him at night insinuating that he was too cold for a little bard. Geralt feigned relief when Jaskier told him that he would no longer bother him with that because he now slept with Radovid and his arms and fur blanket were more than warm.
Geralt kept as much emotional distance as possible from the bard who approached him in a tavern in Posada so he wouldn't have to deal with a broken heart from falling in love with a human.
But absolutely no distance in the world prepares him when that night while they were camping alone, Jaskier lying next to him and looking up at the stars, turns to him and says softly "I'm not in love with you anymore, Geralt. You don't have to act cautious around me anymore."
And Geralt can't say anything. Because he simply can't. He must have misheard, maybe the kikimore from earlier hit him too hard or something because there's no way, no world where Jaskier was in love with him. There's no way he would have wasted his chance.
Jaskier, oblivious to the witcher's stupor, continues "I know I made you uncomfortable with my affections for you, I tried hard not to throw myself at you if I'm honest, but Radovid... I've fallen so much in love with Radovid that I'm ready to let you go. I'm sorry it took me so long to give you and Yenna peace."
Geralt looks up at the stars in silence, not believing what he just heard. Jaskier is about to turn away when Geralt takes his hand. He says nothing, just a simple squeeze. Jaskier breathes a sigh of relief, the witcher doesn't hate him for that, he doesn't ask him to leave as he had feared. Geralt is also relieved that he is no longer burdened with the bard's feelings.
Geralt allows himself to hold his hand one last time. He allows himself a small luxury, so that he can silently mourn the loss of his bard and curse his own stupidity. Tomorrow he will watch as the bard is reunited with the prince, tomorrow he will watch with a broken heart as they embrace and the prince spins Jaskier in his arms, before kissing him and swearing eternal love. Tomorrow Geralt's heart breaks completely.
But just for today, just for that night, he allows himself to take Jaskier's hand, draw him into his arms and breathe freely the scent of the man he has been in love with for over two decades. Just for that one night, Geralt allows himself to be happy.

I really love to make me cry ^^

Just a reminder that:
Joey Batey has actively combated scenes, information, plots, details and lore being cut from the show by including it in his songs.
Joey Batey has been the lead songwriter and composer for all of Jaskier's music since the start of the show. That's three whole seasons worth of music so far. That's six years of writing and producing music.
Joey Batey has embodied Jaskier as bisexual since day one, and actively admitted to having to write over 7,000 words across multiple emails (excluding phone calls and in-person meetings) to fight against the choices the writers and runners were proposing for the 'reveal' scene(s) and future scenes.
Joey was one of the first people during the video interviews to praise Henry after the DeuxMoi smear campaign and has displayed nothing but respectful support for him amidst the chaos. He also did his best to imply that Henry hadn't been fired, despite the active rumors otherwise and the blanket ban on addressing actual details.
Joey filmed the Rience torture scene for over twelve consecutive hours despite being in pain and feeling nauseated and experiencing significant mental distress and being in freezing cold temperatures, outside, in the middle of winter.
Has, without fail, always supported his female co-stars and had nothing but good things to say about them. Has never sexualised them once or behaved inappropriately, and always ensures they get equal press coverage when doing group or duo events.
Read the books, played the games and asked Henry to help him prepare for and portray Jaskier as an accurate representation of Dandelion and Dandelion's personality and characteristics despite the show's shoddy writing.
