Sometimes I think about how Peeta was holding himself back and was still so tactile with Katniss. They're so clingy once they're together
Anon, you had me googling what "tactile" meant - thank you for the lesson!
And yes, these two make ME SICK!!! Obviously they wouldn't cross any boundaries during their friendship, everything was too scary and confusing and fragile. Lines were crossed only for the cameras but that was a pre-requisite. Even their smaller, softer, private touches were gentle. hugs, cuddling in bed, comforting pecks (we do NOT talk ENOUGH about Katniss kissing Peeta before the Quell started. Completely in PRIVATE. In my delusional Everlark brain his lack of shock tells me that this wasn't the first time it happened anyway moving onnnnn)
I've spoken about this before but both Katniss and Peeta find comfort in touch. That's how they show love, caring and protection. Once they are get over the hurdle of "are we doing this fr?" which I honestly don't think happens in a big and dramatic way - it just kind happens because it's an inevitability in the end. I genuinely believe it slowly sneaks up on both of them (maybe not Katniss, that woman is insane and will be battling herself over her growing feelings about Peeta for MONTHS)
But yes. Level 10 clingers. It's terminal.
I think they show it differently though!
I think Peeta is the master of small touches. Always holding her hand, lacing their fingers together as they walk. A hand on the small of her back. Brushing her hair to the side. Massaging her hands, feet and neck.
Katniss is wrapped up like a koala (or a python) around that man. She doesn't just want to touch him. She wants to crawl under his skin.

okay so now i have to talk about it. the reason as to why peeta takes notice of katniss, why she leaves a lasting impression on him is in fact her purity. that's why to him, she's perfect. because when the teacher asked if someone knew the valley song her hand shot straight up. not as a sign of confidence necessarily but of honesty that could not be contained inside of her. the teacher asked a question and so she answered. then the teacher made her sing it for everyone, and even though slightly shy, she just closed her eyes, thought about her mom, her dad and her baby sister and sang as if they were in the room with her.
because that's the kind of home katniss grew up in. a home that felt like one. a safe haven. a place in which the only person she had the choice of being was herself. and no one else. the kind of place that even when completely gone, stays with you. because that's her thing, she may not understand what she's feeling but she will feel it either way. she will let her body take care of her. she will scream and trash when having a nightmare. and if she can't be herself she will try her hardest to be no one at all.
unlike peeta who, even asleep, is not allowing himself a reaction. no, instead he just wakes up, too paralyzed with fear to move. and all of this you can say is me reading too much into it, and maybe i am, but books don't have time to waste. if we're told about something then it's important.
and it's just... of course the kid who's such a good liar, who would never just shot his hand straight up falls in love with a kid who would. no, he has to think about it all first. what is appropriate, what is going to happen after, what is expected of him and how he can give that. he will not be moved by impulse. unless katniss is in danger. or unless katniss is grieving and something screams in him to plant those primroses beside her house. but of course someone like that will find someone who is so natural, and so pure extremely attractive and incredibly charming. it's not random, it's intentional.
#reading this while writing about Peeta being abused#I actually cannot handle this atm#I need to do a lap before I start bawling about fictional characters

She has the thickest dark hair I’ve ever seen on a baby, and already a voice that would make all the birds stop and listen. And I’m a goner.
Excuse me!! Why did you have to go and make me cry?! 😭
Loved the chapter sooo much ❤️🥹
I don't usually cry at my own writing but I gotta admit that line had me teary. Thank you 💛💛
And on that note, having tissues at the ready for the next chapter is a must. My goodness they love this baby so much.

I love when I create a sentence that is so grammatically fucked up and then remember that it's fanfiction and no one's grading me

Okay, y'all--I'm struggling.
My normal (aka what feels most natural to me) mode of writing is to write in third-person limited POV. But since my WIP is YA, and the vast majority of YA I've read in the last decade or so is first-person POV, I decided I need to step out of my comfort zone and write in first-person.
It is like trying to wear clothes that don't fit. I'm making it work, but it's not natural, and I'm not really loving it. I have to constantly suppress my own writer's voice and remember that I'm supposed to be writing in the character's voice. I'm trying not to worry about it since it's the first draft (I can always fix the voice in later drafts), but it's still in the back of my mind.
I need to get a sense of how today's reading audience feels.

Today I’m thinking about the significance of Peeta Mellark, the baker. Not because of his ability to make bread and feed the people around him, or the artistry of his decorations. But his ability to work with fire.
To be near it, touch it, manipulate it. To keep it roaring - not too hot, not too weak - to keep it lit and not be afraid of it.

“No one tagged me I’m just chomping at the bit to post the next bit” … GURL we want ALL the WIPs!!!! Please continue to share!! So so so good!
Haha also so impatient of me because @cow-in-the-sunset and @lilybird23 ended up tagging me (thank you!!)
If all goes well hopefully I’ll post the next chapter tomorrow night (🤞🤞), so instead of a WIP here’s a snippet of the current state of my outline

😬 The chapters mostly happy I promise
#asks#I feel like it’s on brand for me to be like ‘here’s pure newborn fluff with a sprinkling of Peeta having an existential crisis’

if we disregard the content of the rest of loml, "you low down boy, you stand up guy" is a great peeta mellark lyric tbh

I like to watch his hands as he works, making a blank page bloom with strokes of ink, adding touches of color to our previously black and yellowish book. His face takes on a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced by something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him. I’ve seen flashes of this before: in the arena, or when he speaks to a crowd, or that time he shoved the Peacekeepers’ guns away from me in District 11. I don’t know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don’t notice much because they’re so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they’re a light golden color and so long I don’t see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks.
random quotes of katniss everdeen behaving extremely platonically towards peeta mellark [4/?]

yeah like you're so right babe. like my god how have i not seen this before. yeeeeah katniss fucking hates her kids!!! that's why she sings them a lullaby with the lyrics here is a place where i love you because she fucking hates them and her life with peeta too. that's exactly why she still, at times, gets scared of everything being taken away from her. because it sucks. it all fucking sucks. absolutely the intention here.

WIP Wednesday
No one tagged me I’m just chomping at the bit to post the next bit so here’s the start of the next chapter 💛
Laughing. I can’t stop laughing. It’s not that there’s anything particularly funny about the situation. It’s more like I have an overflow of joy, insisting on making itself known by bubbling out of me.
“Well, hello there,” Peeta whispers, wrapping his arms around mine. I’m still holding the baby, he’s just supporting me. His chin rests on my shoulder so he can peer around me at the baby. “It is so nice to meet you, little one.”
Her screams quiet at the sound of his voice, but only slightly.
“It’s alright,” I soothe. “Now, really, Miss Mellark. There’s no need to cry. Your mama and daddy have got you.”
I feel a couple heavy tears fall onto my shoulder. I shoot Peeta a playful, exasperated look.
“Not you too,” I tease. He plants a long kiss on my shoulder then goes back to looking at our daughter.

in response to being glad you don't have to write about katniss' pregnancy anymore... what are you gonna do when the next baby comes to fruition 🫢
Smh. Typical. A woman has a baby and people immediately start asking her about the next one 😡😡 (also I think it'll be easier because I don't have to worry about all of the first time pregnancy stuff)(and Katniss herself says carrying him is a bit easier)(and also shhhhhh we're not there yet let Katniss and I both revel in the newborn bliss)

i dont have the mind for a proper ao3 comment yet, so: who's actually more glad the pregnancy is over, katniss or you?
ME! IT'S ME! Truly insane how fast the words are flowing now that that's over. Lol I was OVER it and I think knowing that the baby was going to come early made it somehow worse
#welcome to the world toastbaby sorry I absolutely HATED writing your pregnancy#don't get me wrong I like the story I was just getting sooooo bogged down by the details#I feel free again
