August 13 — Fun fact! Today’s entry is perceived to be the very first time bats were directly associated with vampirism.
Bram Stoker rooted his vampire legend in wildness and animalistic tendencies — with Dracula transforming into both a bat and wolf, two creatures of the night that are now closely tied to vampires — and his ability to pass as civilized.
While Stoker’s imagination is attributed, there’s some sources that possibly led him to the decision. Here’s just a few:
There’s an early-Romanian belief that a bat flying over an unburied corpse could reanimate it.
In the Middle Ages, demons were often depicted with bat wings in art.
There are some older horror novels that give vampires bat-like qualities — including the 1870 novel Vikram and the Vampire, which plays on the 11th century Hindu legend of Baital, a vampire-like figure that looks and acts similar to a bat.
Vampire bats were first reported in scientific journals in 1810, then documented by Charles Darwin in 1839. They were named after the vampire legend because they drink blood (well, they lap it up like a dog after puncturing their victims).
There’s quite a few other myths and novels that used bat imagery when dealing with vampires, but these are the most interesting to me lol
Also, bats are often referred to as “the guardians of the night” and can be symbolic of death, rebirth, evil and chaos — all handy tools when trying to write a spooky story.

I’ve noticed lately that it’s often Americans who leave tags like “I don’t even care if it’s made up” on posts I make that are not particularly unbelievable, but are pretty specific to my way of life or corner of the world (like the one about the cheese vendor). It reminds me of that tweet that was circulating, that said Americans have a “medieval peasant scale of worldview”—I mean, if you don’t want to be perceived this way by the rest of the world maybe don’t go around social media saying that if a cultural concept or way of life sounds unfamiliar it must be made up?
It’s the imbalance that’s annoying, because like—when I mentioned having no mobile network around here I had people giving me info about Verizon to fix my problem. I post some rural pic and someone says it must be somewhere in the Midwest because the Southwest doesn’t look like this. My post about my postwoman has thousands of Americans assuming it’s about the USPS. On my post about my architect there’s someone saying “it’s because architecture is an impacted major” and other irrelevant stuff about how architecture is taught in the US. This kind of thing happens so so so often and I’m expected to be familiar with the concepts of Verizon and the Midwest and impacted majors and the USPS and meanwhile I make a post about my daily life and Americans in the notes are debating like “dunno if real. it sounds made up”
Going online for the rest of the world means having to keep in mind an insane amount of hyperspecific trivia about American culture while going online for Americans means having to keep in mind that the rest of the world really exists I guess

The Witcher TTRPG
The current English version of the Witcher TTRPG is created by R. Talsorian games. They have a bunch of great, in depth worldbuilding stuff for you to use. It's wonderful, and I've used quite a bit of it for my fics- including characters and lore that are exclusive to these ttrpgs!
Tumblr media
All you really need to play is the first one, of course. I do a lot of writing using the second, though. The Witcher's Journal is absolutely fantastic, with a lot of backstory of the Founders of the Witcher Schools. Erland of Larvik is whollly owned/created by R. Talsorian. to buy >> https://talsorianstore. com/collections/the-witcher-trpg However, sometimes complicated RPGs are hard to get into! Or you aren't sure how to remove/ignore/homebrew what it is you want, because you're just so used to D&D 5e.
Please remember- Dungeons and Dragons is a brand name. Just like Kleenex. We may use it interchangeably with any role playing game, but it is something owned and defended by Wizards of the Coast as their Intellectual property. They can and have sued people in defense of it!
Now! If you need something a little easier!
Tumblr media
Free! >> https://www.drivethrurpg. com/product/281212/Witcher-Easy-Mode
But R. Talsorian has also recently released the Manticore School Expansion- filling in a portion of the world we didn't have before. I really love it, and have been working on a Witcher OC that's a Manticore. Their entire philosophy/creation is so different and intriguing!
Tumblr media
This is another expansion that's totally free! In order to get your hands on that, check out https://rtalsoriangames. com/downloads/ and you'll find quite a few free downloads and expansions, including printables!
Tumblr media
NOW onward to my *favorite* thing that delights me greatly, as I have a WIP I've been working on that isn't using this expansion, but I was pleased to see how we have/had similar ideas on a certain topic: This isn't technically R. Talsorian, but it is created by some of their folks, and is yet again, free. So it's ... fanwork of fanwork, I suppose! But if you wanted to see more representation in the Witcher!Verse, please enjoy:
Tumblr media
IThis is a TTRPG Suppliment you can use regarding disability in the universe, and is great to read as a writer, gamer, DM or player. It's totally free, and has some fantastic new Witchers to play with! Free>> https://rpggeek. com/rpgitem/347542/medicine-path-disability-supplement-witcher-pen-pa And if you'd like to learn more about the Pondsmiths (As this is a family-run company) you can check more out here: https://rtalsoriangames. com/the-r-talsorian-crew I hope you've enjoyed my little loveletter to the work that the Pondsmiths have put into making more representation, accessibility, and enjoyment into the CDPR Witcherverse. <3 I'm not putting any of this under a cut because fuck you look at the art xo

About Mods for TW3
Okay, so It came to my attention that some of my mods don’t react well to being installed via Nexus’s Vortex or a mod manager, so if you want to use my mods i highly recomend you install them manually, here’s a very small ‘tutorial’ on how to do it
but first things first, if you are modding your game : INSTALL THE MOD LIMIT FIX , you can hit the tw3 mod limit extremely fast depending on which mods you install ! ( mod limit can cause infinite loading and crashes ) this fix makes sure you don’t have to worry about that anymore
prepare your game for manual install ( it’s stupidly easy )
manually installing a mod (it’s even easier )
about the load order ( dealing with conflicts and combining mods )
‘tutorials’ and mod making help tag
will add more later if i think of something else
note that reading the mod description before you install a mod is the still the best way to know how to avoid a conflict and install a mod properly !

I don't think I remember Letho and Gaetan meeting in canon so their relationship💅
I love how the witcher fandom has a list of things everyone has decided will be canon Or Else ™. Like we’ve basically created widely accepted lore for things that have two sentences on the official wiki or are mentioned once or that we just think are Neat ™ .
Kaer Morhen’s hotsprings
Lambert’s cat boyfriend
Valdo Marx
Jaskier is witchersexual
Eskel is a goat dad
Renfri never died
witchers purr
feel free to add more.
