Mid-Year Book Freakout

Thank you @cha-melodius for the tag. I couldn't pass this one up. Because for the first time in a long time I'm steadily reading books again (thank you audiobooks!) and have already exceeded my original reading goal for the year.

Number of books you've read so far: 13 (I know that's relatively low in comparison to many others but in 2024 I only read 8 so....)

Best book you've read so far in 2025: Captive Prince series by C.S. Pacat. The angst and literal enemies-to-lovers hit so good.

Best sequel you've read so far in 2025: Dark Heir (book 2 of the Dark Rise series) by C.S. Pacat. I really liked Book #1 but my jaw was on the ground at the end of Book #2. I need Book #3immediately.

Summary:

A part of Henry had always assumed he would die within the walls of the library.

It's a statistically sound assumption. He spends most of his waking hours here. He puts too much trust in the wobbly tables he stands on to hang decorations. He dares to use the ancient elevator that screeches and groans during its slow, perilous journey between floors. He often volunteers to go into the boiler room and bang on the unit so it starts up again. And out of pure obligatory politeness, he eats the godawful cookies Janice leaves in the staff break room on Fridays. Obviously, it will be one of these ill-advised choices that causes his untimely death.

a rwrb fic milestone for (did my love aid and abet you?)

So, my second ever RWRB fic, (did my love aid and abet you?) has reached 5,000 kudos, and I am in awe and so grateful and excited, and I wanted to celebrate it a little.

I had no idea, back when I posted the story, that it would strike a chord with so many people or bring me into contact with so many new and incredible friends and start so many interesting conversations in the comments. I also had no idea just how incredibly warm and kind and welcoming the RWRB fandom was going to be.

But it was, and it remains, and the incredible reception to that story, that what-if that haunted me while I re-read the book in anticipation of the movie coming out, is what nudged me towards thinking of the next what-if (namely, what if they really where friends all along, since Rio, in (here is a map)) and then into arguably way angstier what-ifs (here I'll report that in addition to my current WIP planning, Persuasion!AU, I also am thinking of another angsty canon divergence because I am apparently unable to stop coming up with those).

All of this to say: THANK YOU. RWRB fandom is truly, truly one of the greatest I have ever been in or come into contact with, and you are all AMAZING <333333

Drawing this one made me so emotional. I just love how attentive Damen was in realizing Laurent was fighting with himself in that moment.

I had far too much free time on my hand this week, so I kept going. I wanted to try a cleaner way of drawing a comic page this time. The more rougher "coloring" style worked great for the fight scenes, but I wasn't sure about it for emotional ones... even if it did, I really like to try things out and see what happens.
