this pride, with the pull of people to horror movie in such higher numbers, remember one of the names that helped establish this genre: james whale
with frankenstein, bride of frankenstein, the old dark house, and the invisible man under his belt. an openly gay man in the 30s-40s (that's big!) who brought three of the biggest universal monster movies ever to the movie screens!!!!!!!

“Medieval peasants couldn’t handle my Spotify playlist” but could YOU handle a medieval bard relaying the epic of Beowulf over the course of an hour? Humble yourself.

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971) dir. by Stanley Kubrick
"I think roughly 10 years after it came out, I had a realization that I was part of something that was pretty extraordinary. You can either accept it, smile, go with it, or never talk about it again. And I decided, listen, I made the bloody movie. I put a lot of myself in that part and I'm extremely proud of it. I loved working with Stanley. And for the most part, we have a great time. So I think I'll take the road of, yep, I'm proud of it. I love it. That's it." — MALCOLM MCDOWELL

you cannot talk about the homophobic murder of jonathan joss without including in the conversation that he is indigenous.
american indian men are at the 2nd highest risk of death by murder compared to all other ethnic groups. in their lifetimes, 82% of native men report having experienced domestic violence. yet the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are non-natives (88% of native men and 92% of native women who reported violence said their attacker was non-native). what’s more, tribal governments are often stymied in their attempts to bring justice against non-natives, meaning that many of these cases go unresolved.
this was an intersectional attack. the fact that he is indigenous matters, even if the motivation was homophobic, because it made him even more vulnerable and disposable in the eyes of his killer.
as always, look into MMIWP to learn more, and speak up for us. miigwetch, take care
