This is still surreal to me. Three years ago I became a citizen on this day. I remember watching the movie “Glory Road” as a teenager, and in the movie the basketball coach tells one of the players this, “If you quit today, you quit for the rest of your life.” Those words sipped their way into my heart and mind. I held on to that saying, and I still hear those words echoing in my heart and mind till this day. If you give up today, you may never know what things you were capable of. Yesterday, I had the privilege to share with many principals and school administrators in my hometown, Dallas, Texas. In 2020, I met Dr. Victor Rios virtually, and he has been a great mentor in my speaking career. I was glad to finally have met him in person. Yesterday was an amazing day to celebrate some unsung heroes. These are not people you see in the news but these are our everyday type of people making an impact in their communities. Among them is one of our own, @jvallejo83 from @upper90gol. It was a blessing to be a part of celebrating you and many others. It was great to meet many of our local heroes. I had the opportunity to go to San Pedro Sula with @upper90gol. As I traveled, I could not stop thanking the Lord for this opportunity. For so long, my immigration status prevented me from traveling, but God made a way where others said it was impossible. I could have easily given up, but I chose to continue despite how painful it was. Long ago, I planted seeds that I am now reaping the benefits from. My heart is in Honduras right, but everything @upper90_honduras is doing there, I hope to one day take it to my home town in Mexico - Ciudad Juárez. I love you, and I’m praying for you. Many of you remember that my little sister suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from a car accident on Dec. 2, 2017. All we had was faith and hope that she will make it pass this. This was one of the most difficult things our family has had to go through, but God was gracious to see her through. Now, three plus years later, Alma is married and has a child of her own. It amazes me to see how resilient my baby sister is. Many of you have been following her journey, but for those of you who do not know, Alma has recently returned to school to finish her BA. She is on her way to becoming Physical Therapist. A couple of years ago, she asked me to make a design for her to bring awareness of TBI survivors. So I got to working, and this is what I came up with. It’s simple, but Alma likes it. This past weekend I had the opportunity to go to Cancun, Mexico to meet my niece for the first time. This was a surprise for her, and she had no idea I would be there. The story of my family is complicated to say the least. Just as I was able to see my niece this past weekend, I was able to see her brother a couple of years ago for the first time since he was a baby. I am grateful to have been able to meet all my nieces and nephews now. I intent to remind them of how valuable and loved they are. Aurora, I love you mija, and happy birthday again. You are a precious woman and a blessing. Hide your heart in God’s heart, and He will lead you in the right path.
