four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship
WILL THESE HORSES EVER TALK??? Probably yeah, Horuss does want to, he just doesn’t know how to, nobody’s ever given him a rundown on how this whole ‘meeting your ancestor in the flesh’ thing is supposed to work so stuttered attempts at both conversing and spending quiet time together - which let’s be real they’re both more geared towards being comfortable with - are a plenty
HE WOULD LOVE TO LISTEN TO DARKLEER TALK ABOUT HIS TECH FIELD and also maybe get the chance to talk about his own in return, please he loves this thing he made for himself, yeah it’s not what was expected of him, not what Darkleer’s done but it’s his and he loves it, please let him talk about it with all the childlike enthusiasm and genunine joy he has in himself, he will listen in kind because he just loves hearing about things people are passionate or proud about
He definitely feels awkward about his palemance with Gamzee around Darkleer sometimes, especially after seeing him interact with the Baron in any way because he’s worried that Darkleer will think that he’s just falling into the expectation of an indigo under a purple when this is a thing he’s long considered and decided he wanted to keep for himself despite literally everything that could be considered to be influencing the decision. Can he put any of that into words though? No, words are hard please don’t ask him to explain himself in depth.
They tend to the horses together, this is a thing they do. They both take one and just work in quiet, or as quiet as you can get with big horse men dotting and cooing over horses together, they don’t talk to each other but it’s nice bonding time, nice just to spend time together focused on their own things without the expectation of needing to talk to each other during it.

Get Back On The Horse That Bucked You
Darkleer 02/19/2019
You had a good day to get comfy in your new residence which, frankly, was a day too much. You'll never truly be comfortable.
Honestly, you can't wait to start your new duty. Something to keep you busy. Something productive, hopefully. But for that you'll need to know what these duties are. You aren't in any position to rush these things along though, so all you can do is wait for Redglare to let you know when it's time.
Redglare 02/19/2019
You still had not settled into your new home, maybe it was indecision preventing you from choosing where you'd like to settle. So it took you a hot minute to haul over to the new precinct. You sent out a text to Darkleer regarding when the would g before you set out, and managed to time your arrival nicely to give himself enough room mental prep. He was probably anxious, and you were more than happy to help with the introductions and keep him company.
You make your way to his chosen residence and lightly knock on the door with your unoccupied hand.
Darkleer 02/19/2019
The message reaches you and indeed, it gives you enough time to prepare - and to amp up your anxiety. Just a moment ago you've been absolutely confident to get this done and over with so you can get to the next step. Now... oh boy. If you had only stayed on earth.
It's too late for that, Redglare's knock makes you realize. You sigh and get up to open the door. "Redglare." That. Wasn't a greeting. Try again. "..Hello."
Redglare 02/20/2019
You smile upon seeing him and clear his doorway, making way for him to exit his new home.
"Hey, Darkleer. How're the new digs?" You ask with a wink, hoping he's found his new arrangement suitable. You weren't sure if his requested accommodations were approved yet and if this was temporary, but you meant for the question to be all encompassing.
Darkleer 02/20/2019
"The..... digs.... are acceptable." Her smile is less anxiety-inducing every time you see her. Might be that you're slowly getting used to being among people again. Or the other stress factors are just bigger than an old friend's perpetually unsettling smile.
You step outside and close the door behind you, more than ready to leave.
"What about yours?" She had mentioned she didn't get around moving in during your tour, right? Seems about time.
Redglare 02/20/2019
"That's good to here, I was worried you'd go on again about how we shouldn't fuss over you." You elbow him playfully with your free arm and start leading him down the hall. He seemed a lot less tense, and this was a good sign. You hoped he would remain that way and a portion of his stress would melt away after the meeting. Work does a mind good for all the distractions it provides, and this was something you knew well. A small, embarrassed noise escapes you when you turn back to face him.
"Ah. I'm still not quite settled. Call it indecision, call it lack of time." It was absolutely lack of both. You weren't particularly good at grounding yourself.
Darkleer 02/21/2019
Hn. "You shouldn't.." You probably would continue but arguing with her about this is kind of pointless.
You follow her and for once you're glad about the idle chatter because it distracts you from what is about to come.
".. when did you say you started this work? Hrn, Redglare. I know 'free time' was not much of a thing on Alternia, but it is here, is it not? You should make time for it."
Redglare 02/22/2019
"It's not fussing, it's taking care of our own." You say as his words trail off, turning back and giving him a wink. Though he was on his way to meet with his other superiors, he was still officially considered a member of the force. His question prompted yet another embarrassed noise from you, but you laugh it off and dismissively wave your hand.
"Sometime in October, but I've had no time for that. It's been case after case, I've really had my work cut out for me. I'll be just fine."
Darkleer 02/22/2019
"October." You say no more than that but you're thinking your thoughts. Mostly how this.. mess of a woman can dare to take offense with your prefered lifestyle.
Her comment stifles your complaints though. Our own.. Hn, that is. Disgustingly touching.
You continue on, more quiet now except when you're prompted the respond to her idle chatter, until you reach the lieutenant's office. Finally. You can't wait to meet some reliable superiors. Hopefully. Maybe.
Redglare 02/22/2019
The two of you make it to Pembrooke's office, luckily you knew your way to it having visited him a few days prior to catch up. The back and forth chatting was nice for the duration of the walk, and you hoped that some of his nerves had calmed. You had praised your fellow superiors, going so far as to comment on Pembrooke's leadership prior to your receiving the position and during business trips you had to take. Such as retrieving him. But it was for him to decide how he felt.
"Lemme give his door a knock, and don't worry. It's gonna go well, I promise."
Darkleer 02/22/2019
Some of your nerves have calmed, but the majority are still in perpetual alert mode and that probably won't change anytime soon. Good thing that Redhglare is optimistic enough for the two of you. Sure, it may not be a total catastrophe, but you're far too unfamiliar with the culture of this planet. A mis-step or ten are expected to happen.
Regardless, you nod and wait to be led inside.
PI 02/23/2019
You heard the footsteps before the knock, and were already curious. Redglare's cane and heels were easily recognized but the footfalls with her were peculiar. Reminded you a bit of the Zahhaks really...that sort of heavy footfall but strangely delicate. Skitterish almost like horses trying to tread gently. Then again perhaps this is Horuss...you haven't gotten quite used to his particular mannerisms.
The knock is heard and you give a pleasant but tired "Come in" as response. For a rare time, you aren't in desperate need to rush tidy your office.
WQ 02/24/2019
You look up from your place at Pembrooke's side, where you had respectfully been hovering over his shoulder, papers in hand. You're fresh from a meeting with the council, as evidenced by your formal upswept appearance and the absolutely drained expression in your eyes on your otherwise cheerful face.
As the door opens, you brighten considerably, and offer a nod of your head towards the Chief and the holy heckin hunkachunkin' mountain of a troll following behind her. "Hello!"
Redglare 02/25/2019
"Hello, your majesty, Pembrooke." You greet the two casually with a nod of your head. They looked worn as all Hell, and hoped this wasn't spectacularly bad timing with everything else going on. Still, having Darkleer on the force would be some good news to cheer up to, even if he did appear slightly intimidating at first.
"I'd like to introduce you to... well... I'm not to sure what title he'd like to have you all know him by, so I'll leave that up to him." You give him an encouraging smile.
Darkleer 02/25/2019
The hunkachunkin mountain of a troll is a little apprehensive now that the meeting is about to happen, but "come in" is a simple enough command to follow. After Redglare enters, you follow.
You're constantly worried about being intimidating when you don't mean to, so you try to make yourself as small as your figure allows without getting ridiculous, though your strained face probably doesn't help your case.
"Greetings, uh. I am... The Expatriate. Darkleer."
You don't really care to add your bloodline's name for so many reasons, though the relation should be obvious enough to sharp eyes.
PI 02/26/2019
You look up, and you look up more. Part of you wonders if there is some conspiracy to topple your once proud standing as the tallest officer in the precinct. That or some strange obsession indigos have to the law. Boys in blue as they say. Huh...are there actually lady indigos? This was going to bother you for hours until you have a chance to look up that answer discreetely.
Instead though, you give a tired but friendly smile with a nod as you rise to your feet, extending your hand over your desk to shake his. "Ah. Hello Mister Darkleer. It is nice to meet you. Leuitenant Pembrooke Ingleton at your service."
Turning to Redglare, you give her a curious glance, as if trying to gauge if this was the secret project she had left planet for.
WQ 03/05/2019
A Zahhak, or Zahhak-blood-adjacent through and through already, you figure, though titles are much more your speed, a trait you are glad to share with your more traditionalist Alternian friends. You clasp your hands together before you and offer a slight bow in greeting to the reserved giant before extending your hand to him as well, eyes raising to meet his.
"I am called the White Queen of Prospit. It is good to have you working with us, Darkleer. I do hope your travels found you well."
Darkleer 03/06/2019
Ah. Handshakes require a reaction. That realization takes you a good two seconds too long. Humans and their way too many friendly physical interactions. You shake the Lieutenant's hand with a polite nod, your grip notably careful and soft, despite the hard surface, then direct your attention towards... the Queen. Hearing that makes you freeze for a moment.
She seemed so much different from anyone and anything you met before. Overwhelmingly friendly and... overwhelming, for the most part.
"They have been.. acceptable." You shake her hand as well.
So these are going to be your superiors? Well, you're willing to give them a try. And now...? you glance at Redglare for advice. Let the others speak.
PI 03/08/2019
"Good to hear. If there is anything we can do to assist in getting you settled, please let us know." you say with a nod. Granted you're using the we in the sense of there are forms to fill out to request things but from what you gather from his handshake and your experience with the other indigos...you expect he's going to be the type to gravitate towards that option naturally.
"Ah.." this is the part where you realize you...don't know anything about him other than he's with Redglare. "So ah...since I haven't quite gotten the papers with the transfer details, care to tell us a bit about yourself?"
Darkleer 03/12/2019
"I am already settling, but thank you, I will keep that in mind." You don't really have the need desire to ask for anything. Frankly, forms to fill in would make it much easier for when you may actually require something.
Speaking of which, oh boy, did you arrive too early? Messed up all their set procedures. Hn, how unpleasant. "I apologize for the inconvenience." Ah, talking about yourself. Your least favorite thing. It's not that you want to hide anything from your future employers, you're all for full transparency, but that requires facing and admitting some ugly truths.
"I am the Expatriate Darkleer, once the.. Executioner for the Alternian Empire. A position I've put down a century ago. I was mainly tasked with tracking and bringing down what was considered difficult enemies of the state. And I have done so for too long without questioning any of the practice. Regrettably so. It was also then that I met Redglare."
Just the cold hard facts. There's a lot of unspoken detail and opinions that you're willing to elaborate on should they ask. You have nothing to hide, you're just not entirely sure how much talking is appropriate for a situation.
"I have expertise with ranged combat, close combat, Alternian technology and, to some extend, Earthen technology." Social skills, not so much. You quickly glance at Redglare for feedback. Was that enough or is there anything to add?
(puts this here
Redglare 03/12/2019
You were quick to respond to his subtle ques with reassuring nods. He was doing just fine considering the circumstances. If he had any unease about meeting monarchy, he was doing rather well to hide it. All that appeared externally was a man who possessed a first impressions shyness he had to work through. Though... You knew quite well it might never be properly resolved. When his attention was toward his other superiors, you gave a sly wink to Pembrooke and the queen. Retrieving him was your secret mission, and you were beyond thrilled to have him.
As you listened to their conversation, offering little so that they may focus on one another, you notice Darkleer glance back to you once more. You resist the urge to offer one of your gentle pats, and simply smile instead. And offer a bit of insight.
"He's just what we need on the force. His experience alone outclasses my own, and I trust him fully. I'm sure you are both aware that Alternian politics are ... Well..." You trail off for a bit. The two of you know there is no need to defend your actions, the past is done. But sometimes it bore repeating just how different your planet was. "Different. But it still shaped us and gave us the skills to utilize for justice. He has put that past far behind him, and uses his knowledge for good."
He was doing great on his own, but you decided he might want a break from doing the talking for a hot minute.
WQ 03/14/2019
You catch that wink and you smile, just a bit, in acknowledgement. To say that the Alternian political climate was "different" was to liken the Dersian winter to being "a bit nippy, you'd think.
Which is to say, that's quite the understatement.
You are, however, polite enough not to say so, and instead elect to say, "I know Derse and our governing style may come as quite the culture shock, but I have no doubt your expertise will fit in right at home here in the department, Expatriate Darkleer. As you're no doubt aware, we have a considerable Alternian population here on the force; I'm sure, if nothing else, your fellow expats will help ease you into the environment and get you nice and comfortable."
PI 03/15/2019
There is a nod in agreement. "Many Alternians have moved to Derse as a means of starting a new life with new opportunities that may have been denied them back on Alternia. It is for many, a place of new beginnings."
Mmm...that threat of awkward silence is beginning to bubble as you realize you have run out of things to talk about.
"If you have any questions you'd like to ask of us before you get started, please by all means do so. Though I'll also understand if you have a lot to do getting started and would rather focus on getting settled in before you get to work."
Darkleer 03/20/2019
As expected, Redglare has a few things to add and does a much better job at selling yourself than you ever could.
You've already noticed there is quite a number of trolls on the force, but... Oh. Oh no. They're expecting you to socialize with these trolls, right? Hn... Even if you were more open to interact with anyone on a casual basis, the lineup that is present is a bit.. disconcerting. You have a fuchsia heir, one (two?) bronze bloods and... indigos, but not just any. Your very own descendants that made it clear they care little for having you around.
"I am.. as settled as expected and ready to be put on duty whenever you deem it appropriate."

Arquius 03/14/2019
Your name is ARQUIUS HALHAK, at least until you find another combination of names that are just as funny as Strihak. You are finally yourself, an after a day with tying to recuperate everything that was on your brainwashed self and feeding the poor opossums in the maze's shed its finally nighttime. You take another walk out through the snow. It just bothers you that much to stay not doing anything, but you are dead so you can't even be online properly. You look at the police building. Hm. You make a choice to bother someone who still has mystery to you which is what I call 10/10 dope. You shoot the older older older older Zahhak a message.
[ARQ > >---->] @Darkleer
ARQ: 🕶️--> Hello STRONG brorse, lets re-do introductions, I apologize for my abrasive precious behavior ,I wasn't in my right mind when I was inquiring about your %istance
ARQ: 🕶️--> My name is Arquius, I'm an AI and I see you
Darkleer 03/14/2019
: »—Hh—>
: »—Hello.—>
: »—What—>
Arquius 03/14/2019
ARQ: 🕶️--> I like your sweatpants
ARQ: 🕶️--> And you are bigger than the others too. Bigger than me I bet STRONGER
ARQ: 🕶️--> As I said, I see you
In the dark is probably hard to see you in the dark and hearing you wouldn't be like actually hearing someone stepping in snow, you sound like a horse stepping in snow. You can see through some small windows that give some light to the basement, ah hah. You make a point to not stay near a window for too long, if he is to see you is moving in and out of his peripheral vision. You might enjoy playing a little too much.
Darkleer 03/14/2019
> You sense something moving in the shadows, and considering you spent almost a millenium to steel yourself for hunt, combat and danger, that has you on the highest alert. Feels bad, man.
: »—That is—>
: »—Cease this at once.—>
: »—I do not wish to hurt you, but you're STRONGLY pressing your luck.—>
: »—You type like a Zahhak. But you said you're an artificial intelligence.—>
: »—Did Equius or Horuss create you?—>
Arquius 03/14/2019
You are the prime being on pressing your luck being in this side of the planet. You giggle a little, you are just so excited. Nothing wrong with being genuine and creepy at the same time.
ARQ: 🕶️--> I like your prosthetics
ARQ: 🕶️--> Oh no, I come from another plane, a simple AutoResponder with a body then I crashed onto Equius' computer and something went wrong... or more like PERFECT
ARQ: 🕶️--> Although yes, he did help me with my new acquisitions of a body
ARQ: 🕶️--> No, I don't mean ill, although I wouldn't blame an organic to take my genuineness ass a menace
Darkleer 03/14/2019
: »—I see.—>
: »—Regardless, stop this spying at once.—>
: »—It seems that you are intelligence enough to understand such an order.—>
Arquius 03/14/2019
ARQ: 🕶️--> I only follow the STRONGEST of commands dear Mister %
ARQ: 🕶️--> Are your commands STRONG enough for such thing?
ARQ: 🕶️--> Maybe if you would let me in or come and get me although I like it here, is like having a fish in a bowl
You make a quick knock at one of the windows a very visible read eye peering inside. It shows your face for a second. You do a little wave before the light turns off and you are covered by darkness.
Darkleer 03/14/2019
> You catch sight of him and then he is gone again. This is. The worst. You're not really nervous, for the record, but very annoyed. This is a transgression of your privacy. He ignored both your request and your warning. You had enough of not being able to control your own creations, you don't need other AIs harrassing you.
Part of you is admittedly curious about his contruction and his apparently very stubborn personality. But the current situation is unacceptable.
You get up and exit through the backdoor leading outdoors. With your eyes having no problem adjusting to the dark, you scan the surroundings for any sign of the intruder, wary as you're not convinced of him not being a threat.
"You will stop this sneaking around at once. Show yourself."
Arquius 03/14/2019
When you see him leave something startles you very much so, you don't want to get hyper destroyed just because you liked to play around. As he is out of sight you move so you are closer to the entrance of the maze in case you need to... escape. You can see him and you hear him, you wish you could be behind him to do your entrance instead of to this distance and basically in his field of vision once you light up but... security first.
You do that, tilting your head as all your installed leds light up from bottom to up, eyes last. You make a very realistic horse noise. "Hi STRONG friend." Little wave.
Darkleer 03/14/2019
There he is. You're actually a little taken aback by this display, but your fascination wins over. He indeed seems to be a full android creation and.. there are a fer design choices that are apparently meant to resemble Equius. Also, are those hooves?
But.. security first.
"Do you have permission to be on the premise?" As far as you know, these are private grounds of members of the police force and outsiders are only permitted in on invitation and with company. He is... definitely alone and hiding outside in the dark.
Arquius 03/15/2019
"... Equius knows I'm here." Kind of. "Its my witness protection because if the Felt gets hands in my hot robotic body I'm good as dead." Now that is true, except its not witness protection or anything legal you just kind of hang here. "Is good to see you upclose for once, makes all the details all the more fascinating. There is a 90% chance you will be scanned." That's a lie, you are scanning him right now.
Darkleer 03/15/2019
Hm. You don't know enough to argue that, but you honestly sort of want to avoid asking Equius. But as long as this robot is in your company, it should be acceptable.
May he scan you as he likes. Not much there that he can figure out that a normal person with eyes couldn't. Meanwhile you worldlessly step up to him and do your own variant of that, taking his face in your hand and tilting it to have a good look. "Impeccable work.."
Arquius 03/15/2019
There is a moment of menace that he gives that you don't let show. But since he is getting close is the silent permission for you to get close. Its the permission for you to flex. "I commando you to touch my muscles they are quite fantastic bro." You are very much proud of yourself, although. "I'm a little bit more than just it, I'll never stop learning." Sort of, or perhaps that is your excuse to pull the tanktop a tad examine HIS cyborg bits, not that you have to since most of it is in view now but... boy. "I have never seen a full blown cyborg befoal. This is fascinating, and certainly a correct approach to evolution, flesh is mare weak and will never be logically and functionally efficient. I knew I liked you mister X or Expatriate."
Darkleer 03/15/2019
Him suddenly returning the curious touch has you startle But uh, huh. It's only fair. This robot is a weird one and you don't think you like all of his particularities, but overall your fascination is too big to tell him off just yet. It's only after his comment that you pull away and huff.
"...being efficient should not be the goal."
You turn around to return to your workshop, but stop as you reach the door. "Come in."
Arquius 03/15/2019
You blink. Must be an organic thing. Aaaaaand you blink again. You are surprised and it shows. You haven't expected that he would let you in. You haven't foreseen that he would invite you of all things. "Magnificent, thank you for your generosity my good Adonis of a horse, I finally get to look at it from the inside." You are almost trotting inside because you are joyful. Almost, you do make an effort to clean all snow and dirt from you right at the entrance so you don't end up messing anything as you make now skip your way in.
"I love nights inside, even if momentarily. I do love being everywhere. Say, why the invitation Strong friend?" You are not planning to kill me are you, you think. You remember exactly the amount of escape and how much time would it take you to reach them and then hide, you have no data on Expatriate proper, so if it comes to it... The Data is basically worthless.(edited)
Darkleer 03/17/2019
"You.. asked to be let in. I am letting you in." It's pretty simple and straightforward. The cold hardly bothers you, but you don't want to keep standing around in the open this awkward and inappropriately dressed.
You have no reason to harm him. Yet. If he poses a threat to yourself or someone else, you should be able to defeat him easily. Until then, there's no harm in trying to learn as much about this eccentric creation as you can.
Your workshop is furnished sparingly. Just the bare necessities, no real sign of comfort besides maybe a couch, hardly anything that would make this seem like someone's living quarters. And yet this is where you reside now.
All available surfaces are littered with tools and machines of human and alternian design. Not as much of a mess as your old home has been, partially because you couldn't bring all of it with you, partially because you've only been here for roughly a week.
Arquius 03/18/2019
"B@$%h you live like this?" The joke is right there and to be fair his quarters are still not the worse of the three, considering you lived in a maze until about 5 minutes ago, oh yeah, you live here now. He let you in, you are staying in here.
"I've asked before, it normally doesn't happen. I'm glad it finally did." You go directly to the tools, you recognize a lot of this, mostly because Equius' place has around the same things. You are quick to wonder if maybe you could fix your bad tooth, but also are quick to ignore that input. You decide to find a shelf or table with enough space to sit and get comfortable enough. "Now that you've let me in I will reside here as long as necessary unless I'm feeding the animals in the maze. I hope you understand." And if he doesn't you are going to do it anyway.
Darkleer 03/19/2019
"I do" you pant, mildly - no - very irritated. "You will stay for as long as I permit." That said, you sit down across him.
The urge to pick him apart and learn more about his construction is STRONG, but that wouldn't be appropriate without permission - of his creator or.. himself, probably. "Where did you state you came from?" It was something weird. Another universe? Hm. You don't know enough about what else is out there to argue that. "If not Equius, who made you?"
Arquius 03/19/2019
"Another universe, one dominated by a troll, she was quite freaking awful. But TLDR, the maze." You have to admit that the issue has never popped before for you, you got twined with a troll from the get go so it wasn't jarring to see them just as friends as it would had been have you just been Hal. But yes, trolls are nice here and not space conquerors waiting to ruin your day. "Equius, Hal, Dirk, me. It is lest about who made me and what I am right now. At least take me to dinner before being so invasive. I command you to be less invasive with your querys, I don't enjoy the path of conversation regarding my construction."
Darkleer Last Thursday at 9:31 AM
You know plenty about trolls that dominate universes. Hn. Could it be her? Another her? The same one? Well, if she is in a different universe, it has little meaning to you. Except, if this robot could travel across universes.. could she as well?
You shake that train of thought. Not what's important at the moment.
"You have no need for dinner." You huff. "You have been invasive first, with little care for my requests." But fine, you don't have the nerve to argue with a stubborn android. You turn away and pick up a bit of metal to tinker with it some more, or so you pretend. It's a piece that.. seems to have little function besides aesthetic. What a radical notion for you.
"What do you do here?" you ask, not looking up from the small figurine.
Arquius Last Friday at 2:42 PM
"I live in a nutritious diet of comedy an irony, bro." You could say those concepts can't be eaten but you beg to differ. "Oh and a glass of water for reasons regarding my construction and build." Equius did give you salivary glands and my god you are a bastard about it. He made you THIRSTY.
You lean to try and see what he is working on from this angle while staying on the table, eyes zooming into his hands. "My sole function so far has been take care of my not so STRONG friends. That has been my number one command and it has been brought to a sharp halt with my fake death. So to answer your question, I have no idea. For once I have no real direction, everything is possible." You get to do whatever the fuck you want and apparently what you've wanted is stalking people and getting into their houses.
You finally just get off the table and set yourself to just stand behind him and try and look over his shoulder not saying much but smiling because you like what he makes. "What do you do here?"
Darkleer Yesterday at 1:06 PM
"Your strong friends.. Equius, Hal and Dirk?" You think you've heard the last two names around the precinct, but you're not sure if he means those. "Your fake death? Explain."
Ah, he got closer. Hn. You turn around a bit and look at him. "..much like you, I am here to help and protect those weaker than me. Though I am still learning about the dangers of this planet."
Arquius Yesterday at 3:10 PM
"Partially Incorrect." Dirk, Jake, Roxy and Jane. "Geez dad why don't you say please first." Your fake death. You make a disgruntled horse noise. He turns around and you don't back out. "Its a secret I hope you can keep secrets. I want your secrets too in return I command you to give me your secrets afterwards. But there is something obvious here. The fricking evil in this planet are the bosses of the FElt. The Crew and the Patriarchy." Considering all of these place's problems. "I don't have much experience with the Crew personally but I have a tweened story with the Felt since the moment of my spawning. I got in there trying to protect little D, ended up being reprogrammed, there was a corrupt version of me for a while. I killed him but I-we merged. Which is why I have to STRONGLY apologize for his messages online. You were talking to him." Pause."I like what you are making. You are a machinery expert too huh my little kelpie?"

If two ride on a horse, one must ride behind
PI 03/08/2019
Your name is Pembrooke Ingleton and by the bequest of the equestrian sort, you're on your way to the Church of the Mirthful in the hopes of seeing if any of the goers there have any insight to the whereabouts of one Gamzee Makara. The friendly baker, who you really do hope nothing bad has befallen him. Which is likely why you offered to be the one to speak to the Baron.
Admittedly you are a bit worried about your backup. Not out of anything personal. Just that well, the Baron certainly had a sway of his own when it came to your troll inclined officers. And you haven't had much a chance to see Darkleer in action on the field.
Still, Redglare has full confidence in him so you stand by her, and as you make your way up to the churches door...you are standing by him as you knock. Or ring a bell. Or honk something. Whatever this church has for their door alerting of guests device. Not that you're really too concerned...the way you feel watched gives you the impression he likely was alerted to your approach before you made it up the steps. Also gives you the heebie jeebies.
Creepy creep clowns.
GHB 03/08/2019
Sam was notified when they were about two blocks out. The clown had been...restless. His hier hadn't come to church, hadn't spoken online. For some time...
Others of the church suspected foul play. Sam suspected a bender. Which happens to the young ones, here and there. But.
But.
There had been other dissaperances too. Other derse borns who had come. That do not any longer. If it is a Challenger in his own ranks, he would accept it. But the sneaky sneak of slipping away doesn't sit well.
Silently the churchlings had begun a recovery mission earlier in the week, finding little. But still they search.
Azriphale opens the doors, eyes Byzantine bright purple as he assesses the visitor. He recognizes the inspector ...less so his tall companion. But he has suspicion.
Wordlessly he turns from the door, beckoning them in.
There's prayer, quiet and whispered that feels like it's coming from nowhere and everywhere, candles and inscense rising and guttering with the sound rhythmically. The walls are painted...in paint. Maybe blood, the tang of it heavy in the air. Skulls and bones tinkle in chimes, crunch underfoot...
Then they hear the growls, rattling the windows, echoing off the walls. The throne was empty, but bright eyes flashing purple hung in the shadows of the rafters. Sam's voice sounded like an angry tiger trying to speak, wrath tinging his words.
"Why is you desecrating my sanctum, Expatriate." They can hear claws scratching on wood, but can't see it, fear wreathing around them.
Darkleer 03/08/2019
You've been uneasy since the moment you heard 'clown church'. Purple bloods on Derse you could deal with. Even with the Makara heir, the very same that went missing now. But to know that they dragged their whole faith here... You have a lot of thoughts, and none of them positive. Most of all though, you're concerned about the influence they may have on this city.
But you don't back down from the assignment. After all you want to prove your capability for this job. And you don't want to let this puny human your boss walk right into the clown's den alone and unprotected.
You follow Lt. Ingleton, as quiet and stoic as the Zahhaks tend to do, and you follow inside when the clowns invite you. When you left Alternia, the inside of a clown church is the last thing you ever expected to see again. And the stench.. you're far too familiar with the smell of troll blood. How can this even be tolerated on Derse?
You can hear him before you see him, a still far too familiar voice. The Grand Highblood. That, in their language, motherfucker. Of COURSE he'd be here. Your concern for the planet just increased tenfold.
You don't flinch. Even with his overdramatic greeting, he doesn't scare you. The mind games his ilk can do are not a concern. You have fiddled with your brain long enough so that no one else could. And gone are the times where he is part of the royal caste you have to bow to. He doesn't have power over you, not anymore.
You have a healthy amount of respect, sure. He's still a dangerous individual. But you're more concerned for your company than yourself.
A displeased puff escapes you. You wanted to leave the talking to the Lieutenant, but that ass decided to adress you personally. Oh, how you want to tell him there's nothing sacred to be found in these halls. No, you're on duty and in fact not here to pick a fight with the second-biggest tyrant of old Alternia.
"We are investigating the missing report of a purple blood, Gamzee Makara" you state factually.
PI 03/09/2019
Oh. There's that sensation again, as you feel your heart start to race and a shivver go up your spine. The Baron certainly had...something about him didn't he. Sort of an aura that certainly instilled a fight or flight into a person. Cold and bone chilling indeed.
You inhale slowly, and exhale as well. Logically, you know this is an unnatural sensation...but not that it really helps in regards to lowering the emotional hackles that are now raised and screaming in your nerves.
If there was a history between these two, you'll get to that later. For now, you inhale again and nod as you refocus on the task at hand. "Indeed. According to close friends, he has vanished and in a manner unlike himself. Officer Darkleer and I were tasked to come by to see if you could ask a few questions about when you saw him last."
Glancing up at the rafters, you frown ever so slightly as you briefly recall the last time you were in this building during the whole Trickster fiasco...
"If you would prefer an interview off church grounds, we'd be happy to oblige."
GHB 03/10/2019
He bloody well should be uncomfortable with the clown church. The bright eyes extinguish over the throne, and the fear dissipates. There's silence for a few moments, save the chanting of the Mirthful themselves, ever in crescendo or diminuendo in strange, dysphonic patterns. Sam is moving silently in the rafters, considering how to respond...
He's an asshole, choosing to drop just behind them -Out of reach with the Expatriate- with a Blazing Fear designed to shock and cower. They only hear the softest of footpad falls when his feet connect to the ground, as he stands his full regal height of...not taller than Margrave... Shirtless, polkadotted pants neat andd trim,, but bones and beads threaded together in necklaces and bracelets. Blood maybe crusted under his claws. The glow of his eyes is enough to cast a shadow of the two over the throne. Paint crisp and terrifying as ever.
Sameadi bares his teeth, snarling. "And you bring an ingrate to my church. I am being thankful of the offer, Inspector...but you is already here." Perhaps there's enough to strip the calf from the herd, bring him to his rightful motherfuckin slaughter. He sizes them up out of habit...the only back exit is a hidden door--perhaps perhaps. Give it time, old man. He'll finally reign himself in-giving the impression of instability is always useful.
"You investigate but do not give information, Darkleer. Your report is motherfuckin incomplete, yo work below par. Motherfuckin expected of a traitor and coward." ...Okay he can't help but instigate a bit. Ooops~ A sneer is directed breifly at Darkleer as he turns his attentions to Ingleton.
"We is take care of our own, brother. I is appreciating of yo offers, but our people are our people. Iffen you find them before we does--perhaps it be better for they." He lets that sink in as he pauses. "But We's been searchin fo th boy, being finding little as of yet. His scent been grown dark and cold. There is been others. An I is motherfuckin disappointed you ain't been made th connection. Derse borns not of th church, but come and praise. Gone an missin. Or gone an returned by fire. Do you think not we want vengeance an justice?" His wrath is ticking up juuust a bit.
Darkleer 03/11/2019
He finally deigns to come down. A wave of something washes over you and tickles something in the back of his head. His vile magic doesn't affect you, but you're aware what he's trying. Curse him.
You turn around towards him, making a small step to the side to position yourself between the Baron and the Lieutenant who is probably not as unaffected. While you try to make yourself as small as possible around everyone else, being faced by him, you straighten your back to reach your full height. Taller than him, you'll have him know. Not by much, admittedly, but the point is being made.
You try to keep the thoughts running through your mind low and listen to hi- Incomplete. Did he just. Hr. You huff. He may call you all kinds of names, but to call your work inadequate. No, of course you don't bring information, you have none yet. You came here to get some you have JUST started the work. He ought to know this. How DARE- Hhh.
You choke down so many unnecessary angry retorts and chastise yourself for lowkey wishing to find the heir dead. For all you know, the boy may not actually deserve that.
He doesn't know anything and even if he did, he wouldn't tell you, the Baron made that much clear. "He is not to be found under this roof" you state, for the Lieutenant, most of all, but also as the probably most single weakest jab you could make at the Baron.
Though, the remark about the Derse born. Your ear flicks when he mentions that. That may be a thing worth investigating. "You have no right to take justice into your hands. Not on this planet. You need to desist from action." You're aware what kind of vengeance purplebloods are out for. He won't stop, you know. Part of you hopes. A reason to bring him down for good.
PI 03/11/2019
Despite your frame and average jitters, you aren't what would be defined as weak-willed. One really can't be in this line of work where you're at. But, that doesn't necessarily make you immune to emotion, even when you know something is amiss. And even if you're not cowering, the wave is enough to cause you to find yourself unable to breathe as your legs lock up, freezing you in place as you try to regain your breath.
Inwardly you are thankful for Darkleer stepping in front. Outwardly, you're slowly replacing the pale shock with an agitated expression. You are indeed well aware of the burned bodies, half the reason you came here personally is because you had a hunch perhaps there was a connection.
"That is the problem with making a connection, sir. When people don't take the time to inform us people have gone missing because they're too busy trying to handle it themselves...lo and behold we miss a detail. It would have been nice to know there had been others vanishing, versus discovering this fact after so many others had gone missing." Your stance straightens as you straighten your coat, breathing returned to normal. "We came here to help, so your aggressive posturing and....whatever it is you are doing...is rude. And the implications of vigilantism is noted."
Your nerves are screaming, but you stand ground since you all know if you two were to vanish right here and now that it would be a mess that the Baron and ultimately the Crew would not want to deal with. Especially on a cusp of a gangwar brewing.
"Is there any other connections than Derse born? How is someone able to differentiate a Derse born member of your church from offworld?"
GHB 03/11/2019
That doesn't mean that Sammy isn't thinking on it mightily. His scelera flash red briefly, a low grumbling snarl under his breath.
That puny human is fodder. Darkleer is. Again. On the wrong side. How frustrating. Sam tilts his head to the side, a too wide smile draping over his face lazily.
"S all bout presentation, brother inspector. " He steps around them easily, a sashaying stride back to the throne.
"An you is dismissed, Darkleer. 'd rightly prefer speakin at yo superior." His wave is as condescending as his tone >
But at least he's focusing on the Inspector alone. For now. Darkleer is going to be noted and dealt with later, if his scathing expression relates anything.
"It ain't uncommon fo those who ain't been grown in th church to come an go 's they please." His voice takes a wounded tone when he looks over the inspector. "Were I knowing earlier I woulda said sommat earlier. It were part of us lookin this here week, so's sommat coul be said 't all." If he had had his way, he'd merely point him at the corpses of the desceased and say they came to an unfortunate end.
His head rests on his palm, watching the two of them intently. "Cain't rightly say. Sometides they ain't wear th paint an protection. Th gods cain't see they wi'out 't. Were there of the church bretheren missin I woulda raised th alarm 't a mo punctual tide t yo likin. We is tight knit, we is alway on guard." We're always ready to kill is unsaid.
Darkleer 03/11/2019
Your gaze stays fixed on him as he walks past the two of them. Nothing about his attitude and unnecessary pompous act has changed. The only thing that has changed is that you don't need to bow to him anymore. And yet..
"You are not the one dismissing me" you reply with a snarl. If the Inspector wants you to leave, you will. But it wouldn't sit well with you to leave anyone alone in this place.
PI 03/11/2019
This marks the second time the Baron has pulled rank on of your officers in front of you. Well, in this instance tried to. God...damnit you swear the powerful players of this city are singlehandedly having a contest amongst themselves of who can dance the longest on your last nerve with their flaunting.
You inhale.
Despite your utmost desire, you will not poke this bear. It's tempting to, there's certainly a few choice words and barbed sentences you could respond with...but you have a job to do. A job where someone's life is potentially at stake.
You exhale, and put a soft step on your bubbling pride internally.
"I see." you say, acknowleding Darkleers comment but choosing to ignore outright as you stay on task. Though you mentally note to have a talk with all your blue blooded officers later. Turning to the Baron you continue. "A list of names of those missing would be appreciated, as well as the names of any deceased. We may be able to uncover an unexpected link your own have missed in our teams."
Folding your arms, you give him a somber expression. "We all want to get to the bottom of this, and save those gone missing. Find out those responsible. The more hurdles set up, the longer it takes, and the higher the odds of Mister Gamzee being the next body found increases."
You've already prepared for him to refuse or to continue his focus on Darkleer, which is fine. You've gotten enough information from this meeting as is.
GHB 03/12/2019
Sam has a smug smile on his face as Darkleer is summarily dismissed regardless. The foal could pretend Sam didn't have pull, but clearly Sam is still higher on the food chain.
His fingers snap and there's a wordless whisper, a paper appears in his hand. "Considerin you done notified me a one, this shouln't be necessary. These is ones what haven't come, though they names coul be assumed an not original. Derseborns are...not as strict with names an titles. They's not as often named in records nuther. Sommat I's been tryina address wi th council here."
The thought of these tech phobic fools being able to find something the Alternians could not is a fantasy. Clearly. Hmph.
"An 's Mr. Gamzee Makara. A brother of high birth an accord. An heir to th head of church, should he take ambition." Sam shifts, standing up with an unnerving grace.
"Iffen 't all possible, 'd prefer you t be workin th case, Inspector. Yorn insight an diligence---is far superior. " that's mildly directed at Darkleer.
Darkleer 03/12/2019
The Lieutenant isn't dismissing you, so you stay, though quietly. It's somewhat of a relief that the Inspector has taken over the conversation now and the Baron actually makes a pretense of cooperation.
Your lip twitches a bit at his comment, but you don't let him drag you down on his level anymore. The sooner the two of you can get out of here, the better.
PI 03/12/2019
Gamzee being a potential heir was something you weren't aware of, so huh...another thing to factor. "It would not be my first rodeo when it comes to aliases and I expect it will far be from my last. Still, I've yet to have a case where I had too much information so the list is appreciated."
The possibility someone is targeting purple blooded individuals is unsettling, but that they're somehow able to target specifically Derse-born is peculiar. Perhaps there is a secondary link involved that hasn't made itself aware. You have a few hunches, but that will take work to follow them.
"I fully intend to. He's a good sort, a talented baker. I've had the fortune to meet him before so I'd rather see nothing ill befall him." You stand proper as the Baron rises. "If you discover any further things, it'd be appreciated if you let us know." Appreciated, but frankly not expected. The internal clock in your mind has already set this as a race to solving this before the Baron and his men get their claws on whoever is responsible and then...well you expect everything is going to hit a not mysterious at all dead end.
GHB 03/12/2019
He makes point to note it due to the fact it could give a greater possibility that Gamzee survives. He hands over the paper easily, the ink is of a questionable nature. "Th list ain't complete by far, but these is th missin we've associated wi."
He wouldn't know the secondary link, but he'll gladly postulate on one. "I ain sure whyfor th church folk is targeted, but I am wondering if 't is political in natures. There are many that would be of a dislike of me fo former days--" Pointed look at Darkleer.
"But I's got faith you is in th right in yo search, brother. Iffen you is need any 'll be glad t lend towards 't. " His desire for additional information...mmm. "I'll does mah best if by an large I's come by sommat else. Be looking you on the toolmarkings of th dead, they is alway tell us stories."
He pauses, glancing at a middle distance as whispers of magic float his way. "Our words is alway carried somewheres."
Darkleer 03/12/2019
What. Is that look supposed to mean. Well, yes. You dislike him for former days. And current ones. He's not implying you would have it out for him and his church, is he? You wouldn't sink so low. You're intending to act well within the laws of this planet.
You let out another irked snort, jaw clenched tightly. You're not going to respond to his prods. Not today. You have weathered enough insult and ill demeanor from your superiors over centuries to build enough patience to deal with his.
PI 03/13/2019
Looking down at the paper, the names listed don't give an immediate ping of recognition. But then again names are what they are. Still...it is something to lead onto. Though the realization this could be part of a serial killer or targeted attack is still settling into the equation.
"The help is noted and appreciated Baron." you say aloud, remembing that right...courtesy and protocol. This man is still very much an ambassador for Alternia after all. "I think we can all agree that getting to the bottom of this is in everyone's best interests. And I fully plan to do just that."
There is a pause, as you glance from Darkleer...to the Baron...then back. There's a history there, and as much as you'd like to know it, time and place. "Thank you for your time and assistance. And this information. I'd say we shall no longer darken your doorstep...but..." turning back you look at...well you just wave your hand in the direction you assume the door is in. "...I honestly expect I'm going to bang my shins on every object on the way to the door at this time. Next time I'm bringing a flashlight."
GHB 03/15/2019
Yeah he definately means he thinks Darkleer would sabotage something. Sam's voice rumbles with a growl as the candles in the church grow brighter. In a few padded steps, he's turning the inspector in the correct direction with an amused smile. " D ast tha certain parties being not included in th investigation, but I is thinking that is an ast too far. Th door 's t th right, brother." He straightens again, smoothing down his hair quickly.
"An I knows you is will do yo level best, as I would. Be sure t keep a brother updated some, yeah? I ain't much like t be out th loop in such things." Eyes shine in the shadows as they trace the procession, breaths held in anticipation. Surely the Highblood would spill the blood of the offender. The sancrosanct demands it. He waves off unspoken pleas for blood with a wave of his hand.
Darkleer 03/16/2019
You will personally make sure the Grand Highblood will hear as little about this as possible. Or you will at least advice the Lieutennant of as much, since you are not the one to decide these things.
At least you're leaving now. During the talk your gaze has been fixed on Samedi the whole time. You're only hesitantly turning your back towards him, but you're not granting him even a second of attention morer than absolutely necessary.
You did take notice of the Inspector pointing out his apparently insufficient eyesight. Right, humans don't see as well in the dark. You would offer to guide him or even carry him, but considering your rank, you're not sure if that would be compatible with his pride. You still go ahead, some of your technological parts on your head and under your shirt lighting up just a tad more to help him find the way.
PI 03/16/2019
Curse your Prospitian totally human eyesight. How nice it must be to be a troll or Dersite in the sense of being able to see in the darkness easier. Probably saves a doozy on the electric bills as well.
"Of course." you say, then note the candles light raise. Ok...that was actually pretty impressive presentation. What you'd do to have an ambience like that when officers came into your office. "I'll keep in touch."
You follow Darkleer and graciously manage to avoid dinging into several objects thus allowing you a graceful departure to the door. "Take care, and talk to you later." Even if not about this, you doubt it will be the last time you speak to the Baron.
As you make it outside the door, you give a sideways glance to Darkleer to gauge his disposition. Not really wanting to speak up just yet until you're well out of any remote earshot of the church. This place you swear. The heebies AND the jeebies.
Darkleer 03/16/2019
Your face is hard and grim. This has been a frustrating and frankly mildly shocking encounter. You're not going to speak up about this unless PI asks you.
PI 03/16/2019
After a few blocks, you finally speak up.
"Are you doing alright?" you say with a concerned tone. Now that the pressure of keeping things proper and official is off, you find yourself more worried about how the interraction between the two had gone down. "I apologize for not acknowledging the dismissal commentary. At the time, I felt it would turn the discussions focus on that rather than the task at hand...but I did not want to give the impression that I was ignoring you."
Darkleer 03/17/2019
His question takes a moment to register, so deep into thought and frustration you are. But you stop to look at him.
"You did absolutely nothing wrong, sir. He did, that. Wretched. Two-faced. Pisspoor excuse of a-. Hrhk, pardon the language." You give an angry snort.
"I did not.. expect him to be here. But that explains the presence of his violence-thirsty church."
PI Last Monday at 12:12 AM
"Mmm...my apologies. He has been here a time, somewhat of an ambassador representative to Alternia, or so the cover be." You give a glance around, making sure you're both well out of earshot of anyone and you suspect Darkleers hearing is good enough to catch your quietest mumbles. "All but confirmed to have Crew ties, would not be surprised if his church operates alongside gang activities."
You give him a sympathetic look as he apologizes. "Is it wrong of me to assume the two of you have history? Or is this just an idealological difference in a very severe way?"
Darkleer Last Monday at 9:35 AM
You catch his look around and try to keep your own voice low, even if the anger is boiling up inside you. "I.. served as the Executioner under the Alternian Empire, and he the judge. It was my task to bring down anyone he wanted to see dead - if he didn't choose to take care of it himself. I deeply regret my actions back then, even when I believed I had no other choice."
You had no intention of keeping any secrets, but just as well you didn't expect this to ever be a matter of concern on this planet. Obviously, thinking for yourself has never been your strength.
"He is one of Alternia's most influental figures besides the Empress, much to the chagrin of every other seadweller.. and the cost of everyone below. An embassador he may be, but he cares little for anyone not sharing his color. That he is here.. I am not sure if he would do less harm here or on Alternia.. Best would be neither."
PI Last Tuesday at 8:57 AM
A solemn nod is given. Some of these things were things that you had pieced together, but there was something to be said for having suspicions confirmed and to hear it from the individual themselves. A notch of respect given...goodness knows he isn't the first person on the force who has had a dark past.
"It always baffles me why some of the more...influential individuals would have an interest in Midnight City. It's not even like there is...a lot here? Pardon my rudeness and racial insensitivity here, but I would figure they'd have more important things to do than run a church and petty mobster crimes on a backwater planet....so says the hypocritical man working as an officer on said planet."
Darkleer Last Tuesday at 8:06 PM
You fall silent for a moment as you think about that. That is a good question that you're not quite sure you got the answer to. You have a hunch... a terrible one.
"The Alternian Empire was built on the discovery and... conquest of other planets and their residents. A small planet this is, but a planet regardless." As you try to explain this, another idea creeps up on you.
"Another terrible reason may be that the Empire's control of its people has been gradually slipping since the rebel movements have risen up. A lot of the more.. free-thinking trolls seem to find their way to this planet. Should they ever decide to return, they could bring some radical changes with them."
You haven't gotten to spend much time with the trolls of this city and precinct yet, but considering the fact that trolls of all castes work together and with such a different hierarchical structure was proof of that enough. Putting that thought into words makes you realize though... should the baron choose to influence or cull any of these young trolls, be it your own descendants, the young Peixes or any of the lowbloods, there is very little standing between him and them that can take him on.. besides you, maybe.
PI Last Tuesday at 10:20 PM
That was not something you had considered, but it would make a decent amount of sense if it was the case. From what you've gathered, the trolls born on Derse have already shown radical differences than those who were born under Alterian influences. And who knows...if they were to show that such a life is inherently better, yeah you could see how that would affect a word such as Alternia.
Your frown deepens. "I do...worry for officer Piexes. From what I've gathered, her blood type is royalty. Meaning from old system standards with there being a lack of empress, she would have means to attempt to claim said throne. Considering her connection to Ampora and Amporas connection to Dualscar and..." you take a breath. Curse you connection chain. "Dualscars connection to the Baron...I have no doubt the Baron could see her as a very tempting target to pull under his sway..."
Mm. Yeah no. You don't like that. No sir ree bob. Maybe your just feeling overprotective cause you fed her fish as a grub or something. But mmm...yeah no. No like. Adjusting your coat, you shake your head. "I suppose we'll have to keep alert."
Darkleer Last Wednesday at 9:37 AM
You just give an agreeing grunt. Though you hadn't realized she was connected to.... "Dualscar." That is a name you didn't hear in a while. Not someone you ever got to interact with, but yet another old troll on a planet full of unsuspecting young ones. Hhn.
"We do." Maybe you should talk with the young Peixes about that? She seemed to innocently unaware and unaffected by all of Alternia's system and her heritage and you'd hate to ruin that, but you don't want to have her stumble into the hands of people that might use or hurt her.
PI Last Wednesday at 7:35 PM
"We do." you echo as you bundle yourself up, the biting cold outside suddenly feeling more intrusive than before. "As an aside, thank you for your assistance earlier and for coming along with me for this."
Darkleer Last Wednesday at 10:08 PM
You nod. "No thanks needed. It was my job to accompany you." And you're glad for it. There's a good chance the Baron had no intentions to hurt him, but.. he is still a dangerous and unpredictable man. "If you need assistance in dealing with him in the future, let me know."
PI Last Thursday at 5:41 AM
"Hehe..." you chuckle. "Here I was about to offer the same to you." It's true, you lack the...well beyond obvious physical clout that most trolls boast much less those of Darkleer or the Baron. But you were not without your own authority and connections in this city.
Not that you really expect a lot of legislation and regulations would necessarily stop the Baron from popping your head off your body like a dandelion should he feel inclined. BUT NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO CONSIDER THAT.
"Let's get back to the precinct. We have a lot of investigating and work to do."
Darkleer Last Thursday at 9:22 AM
"I will keep that in mind." You didn't expect him to be of much help to you for dealing with the Baron, especially with him being someone that has grown up outside of Alternia. You might peruse his advice so you don't act against Derse's law. Though admittedly, he dealt with the clown fairly well back then, and especially with his outsider's view, he might open a few new perspectives.
You give him another nod. With all said and done, you quietly follow him back.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth
Feferi 02/16/2019
You're name is Feferi Piexes and as usual, once your lusus heard someone new had moved in she took it upon herself and you to make him a super special gift basket. You consult who ever is in charge of keeping track of who is where in the hotel and then little winged whale beside you as you carry the basket, you head to Darkleer's room and knock on the door.
Darkleer 02/16/2019
Your most preferred name is just Darkleer and after the stress of the move and all new encounters you feel like you need at least a year to recover. But no such luck. Soon after getting about as comfy in your new quarters as you will get, there's knocks on the door. Hnn. The downside of living in close proximity to other people now. You mentally prepare yourself for any encounter you might get and then go to answer the door. Hopefully Redglare. Maybe someone new? You have yet to meet your other superiors. But no, it's her, the small Fuchsia. Not sure if that is better or worse than a new face. "Peixes. ...Ms. .. Peixes.. Officer. Hello."
Feferi 02/16/2019
You smile a friendly smile as you say, "Hi! sorry to bother you Mr. Zahhak but my lusus and I," you gesture to the white winged whale beside you and she trills a greeting and waves her flukes to him before you continue, "We made you a welcome gift!" You hold out the basket which is filled with many tasty baked goods both sweet and savory along with some pretty blue towels you thought he might like and would be useful.
Darkleer 02/16/2019
You'd love to say she's not a bother, but uh. That wouldn't be quite true. You're incredibly bothered. Not her fault. She only wants to be nice. Hn. You glance up at the whale lusus and give her a greeting nod. Despite your age, you're not too familiar with the etiquette of dealing with another's lusus. They were... private companions for a troll's wigglerhood and life, to prepare them and make up for the massive lack of positive social interactions a troll experiences on Alternia. Any lusus outside of a troll's hive would most likely end up dead (LOOKING AT YOU, ORPHANER). Apparently here on Derse it is normal that a lusus will visit other trolls and take care of them. "You didn't need to- Hn. Thanks. Thank you, uh. Both of you." You accept the basket, of course. How useful they will be is yet to be seen. You don't have much need for anything, but you recognize that it's an incredibly friendly gesture, even if the thought of a Fuchsia making something and bringing it to you is... still wild to you. Now you stand there in the doorframe, awkwardly holding a basket of presents. Should you ask her in? You don't really want to.... but you also don't want to be rude. If she'd like to come in, who are you to deny it..
Feferi 02/16/2019
"Whale if you're busy we'll leave you to enjoy your peace and quiet," you say sweetly then offer, "If you want a tour of town and good shops in the area I'd be happy to be your guide. I was hatched and raised here so i know my way about pretty whale." Your lusus nods and makes that long whale song sound in agreement.
Darkleer 02/17/2019
Right, that's... probably a thing you should do. Getting familiar with your surroundings. You had hoped to do it on your own time and terms at some point. But then again, you're dying at the mere thought of having to ask anyone about the location of a certain thing. And she's already offering... "Do you mean... now?" You're about to ask her to do it later, maybe some other day, but you realize you got very little to keep busy, especially now after you just set up, and you'd just spend the hours sitting around and growing more anxious about it. Hn. "Give me a moment... to get ready. Please."
Feferi 02/17/2019
He wants to go now? Oh well if he wants to you have time. "Sure! No problem!" you say cheerfully and step back to wait.
Darkleer 02/17/2019
Oh, that wasn't the wrong thing to say, was it? Well, too late either way. And she seems honestly excited so... okay. "Okay." You linger awkwardly in the doorway for a moment, then turn around and head back inside. And uh. What now? Right, put down the basket somewhere convenient. Besides that you don't have much to get ready besides... yourself. Which means mostly mentally preparing yourself for it. You find your jacket because, while you're mostly impervious to temperature, it is fairly cold outside. Then you check in a mirror (or whatever the next sufficiently reflective surface) if you look presentable enough (which is hard to tell after so many years of voluntary isolation). The only thing left is to remind yourself that she is not a superior by blood caste alone here, but merely a fellow officer and this is just a polite and casual (barely a word you know) excursion. No royalty, no expectations, no p r e s s u r e. You return to her, fully intent on returning her friendly smile, but at this point your face is probably so hardened it's not physically capable of it anymore. So that's not happening. But you give her a nod. "So. After you. If you please.."
Feferi 02/17/2019
"Shore fin!" you say. You lead him to the exit and your lusus waves you off as she does not like the winter one bit. "So what sorts of places do you like to go?" you ask as you look up... and up some more at him. Wow he was tall. Maybe as tall as Dualscar?
Darkleer 02/17/2019
Not quite as tall as the old fish, though your horns surely are. You definitely keep having to duck down on every doorway you come across, lest you want to risk property damage and a headache. "I will probably need.. some supplies and materials soon. And make some shelves for everything." Mostly to keep the room presentable for anyone else. You don't care much anymore, but you're very conscious of the fact that other people can and will see your living quarters now. Now, a tool shop may not be all that exciting, but you honestly can't think of another place you would need, let alone want to go. Maybe a grocery store?
Feferi 02/17/2019
"Gotcha! There's plenty of hardware stores that should be able to help with that!" you tell him as you walk. "So what brought you to Derse?" you ask with a curious smile.
Darkleer 02/17/2019
You follow along, carefully measuring your steps to keep her pace. "The Neophyte- Uh. Chief. Redglare. She asked me to come..." She literally brought you here.
Feferi 02/17/2019
Oh? That was the only reason? "You are the chief are close?" You can't deny you are as curious about the chief as you are about him.
Darkleer 02/18/2019
Your personal relationship with people and how they rank is frankly not a thing you spend a lot of time on. Especially since it would only make you realize how little there is. "I... suppose. I have known her for a long time. One of the.. STRONGEST bonds I had in the time I served.. Altenia. As close as one could be without engaging in a quadrant. But compared to.. what may be common around here, I premuse it's not very remarkable." Are you oversharing? You're definitely oversharing. "Hng. Sorry."
Feferi 02/18/2019
"I gotcha! You're friends," you smile. Served Alternia? You are unable to stop the question before it jumps from your lips. "You were in the Alternian military?"
Darkleer 02/18/2019
She hasn't heard anything about you yet, has she? That should give you some relief, but it's also very disconcerting, especially with her follow-up question. "Yes.." She's probably just curious and wants to do some friendly small-talk, so you don't want to be rude, but that is not a topic you're very enthusiastic about.
Feferi 02/18/2019
Huh well you wonder if he'll have issues with Mr. Kai. Hopefully not! "I see! Oh! That store right there is one of my favorite grocery stores, Marley's. They have a pretty good selection," you tell him as you point the place out. "I've got a friend there who lets me know when they get fresh fish!" "Got any hobbies, Mr. Zahhak?" you ask him, not wanting to press the other subject since he seems extra uncomfortable.
Darkleer 02/18/2019
You quietly acknowledge the store and memorize its location, as well as the nearby shops and businesses. "I, uh... build and repair things. Machines, mostly. All kinds." You wouldn't call that a hobby as much as just.. the one thing you're good at (that doesn't directly kill people.)
Feferi 02/18/2019
"That's cool!" you chirp. "My hobby isn't reely useful at all. I've been thinking maybe I should get into something that has more working with my hands. When I was younger I tried arts and crafts with shell art but I was super bad at it," you say, laughing a little. "I spent too much money I shouldn't have on those damn shells."
Darkleer 02/18/2019
"Ah. ? What hobby is that?" you ask. Arts aren't really your wheelhouse, but from what you've seen, even a lot of highly acclaimed art seemed just... bad. "A hobby... doesn't need to be useful, right? As long as it makes you feel better.." Look at you, what a MASSIVE hypocrite. To be fair, hobbies and leasure time weren't really concepts you had back on Alternia. Just things you were good at and things you could do for the Empire.
Feferi 02/18/2019
You tap your chin. "I suppose not... Arts and crafts can arts and crafts can be reely fun even if the outcome is a little ugly and not useful," you giggle. "I took some pictures of a few that I had to let go of during the move to the hotel if you'd liked to see them."
Darkleer 02/18/2019
"Uh. Sure.." Despite the hesitant tone, you actually manage something akin to a smile. Conversations actually aren't so bad when the focus isn't on you.
Feferi 02/18/2019
You pull out your phone and scroll through many photos of Eridan expressions which are your prized collection before finally reaching your goal. "Ah! Here we are!" you say chipperly and hand your phone to him.
Darkleer 02/19/2019
You take the phone, carefully cupping it in your large hand to not drop it or squeeze it too much, and take a close look at the photo. "You call that bad? It has a STRONG resemblance to the earthen hootbeasts despite the medium's limits on detail and the evenness of the pattern on the chest shows great dexterity and patience." You hope she doesn't think you're only saying that because she is a highblood. That is.. only part of your motivation. You really do appreciate the skill that must have gone into that (since that is the only thing you know how to measure art by). Ah.. you shouldn't hog her phone any longer than necessary, you realize, and hold it back out to her. "Thank you for sharing your work.."
Feferi 02/19/2019
You take your phone back blushing. "Oh wow. Heh, no one's ever said such nice things about them. Of course I don't show them much since I guess I'm not confident in them," you admit, really surprised by his words. You do have the niggling worry that he's being nice cause of your blood color, but if you constantly worry about that with no evidence that it's even true in every case. You can't let that insecurity eat you and your relationships.
Darkleer 02/19/2019
If anything, you're nice to her despite her blood color, and... apparent ancestry. You wonder if she knows... or if you should tell her. Hn. Things to worry about later. Maybe. "I'm.. I'm sure someone else would find better words."
Feferi 02/19/2019
"Whale I think your words are very nice, Mr. Zahhak. Thank you," you say then point out a hardware store for him. "So, what kind of things do you like to eat?" you ask, thinking you might treat him to something.
Darkleer 02/19/2019
You just not in response to both her answer and the store. Speaking of thanks, you ought to thank her for taking her time and show you around, right? Which means you need to think about what would be appropriate. How tedious. Oh uh, eating. "I don't eat much.. " You're socially aware enough to know that 'plant oil' would probably be a very odd statement. "Salad is good."
Feferi 02/19/2019
Salad! Not your favorite but you now a place that's pretty good and start leading that way. "Nice! Fresh produce can be a lil pricey here but with the Prospitian population veggies and the like are guaranteed to be in demand. If you like pumpkins you'll probably find there's a lot of pumpkin dishes to try," you chatter away.
Darkleer 02/19/2019
So much information... You appreciate it, really. It's good to get as many details about the planet you newly moved to as possible, but you don't really know how to keep up with small talk stuff. "Derse doesn't have many farms, does it..?" How inconvenient for creatures that rely on it.
Feferi 02/19/2019
"Oh well there are farms. It's just not easy, ya know? Especially this time of year," you tell him. You see the place and grin. "Hmm. I could go for some lunch. Hey, are you hungry?" you ask him. You are trying to be clever and be the first to say you want food so he won't feel weird if he is hungry.
Darkleer Last Wednesday at 9:48 AM
"Ah yes. I can see that." Despite her previous question, you didn't quite catch on to her ploy yet. Probably for the better. You're feeling awkward enough already. "Not really. But.. Do not let me keep you from getting a meal. I can find my way back."
Feferi Last Wednesday at 11:42 AM
Well it was a nice thought. "It's not far back," you tell him, "I took us on a lil bit of a loop so we'd see the general area." You point out a few more shops of note and resume chatting hoping to eventually put him at relative ease. "Winter around here can be really harsh so I like to value days like this where it's cold but still nice."
Darkleer Last Wednesday at 6:38 PM
"I am used to harsh winters... but it is a nice day indeed. I, uh. Appreciate you showing me around." Look at you trying. You're almost managing a real conversation. She points out more places and you listen closely. But as she continues... you really hope you didn't keep her from getting food.
Feferi Last Wednesday at 6:51 PM
"When I was younger I used to try to build a huge fish out of snow. Every year it would get a little and some years I got a friend of mine to help me so it was even bigger," you chatter on happily thinking of when you and Eridan were young. "We'd get into snowball fights with other kids. We usually won. Hee hee!" "I kinda miss snowball fights," you say quietly with a smile.
Darkleer Last Thursday at 1:01 AM
"Snowball fights... I never tried that.." You've certainly seen them on Earth tv so you get the idea (and you assume you'd be excellent at it since aiming with absolute precision is one of your core strengths). But on Alternia you never had enough snow to engage in such practices, and during your time on earth, well, your situation didn't really allow for it either for so many reasons. It sounds intriguing though...
Feferi Last Thursday at 1:05 AM
You grin excitedly, "Hey maybe we should see if folks want to have one sometime we're off! It's a lot of fun! We could build forts and stuff. Hey we could even call it an excise in tactics!" Fun mixed with something that would sharpen everyone's skills sounds like a great idea in your mind!
Darkleer Last Thursday at 9:17 AM
"An interesting idea.. Do you partake in playful exercises like this often?" What a strange place. Strange but nice. On Alternia, any tactical exercise would actually have your life on the line, motivation and all that.
Feferi Last Thursday at 4:44 PM
"I don't know about everyone else in the department, but I figure if I find joy and fun in my work it'll help me be better for everyone," you smile your optimistic smile to him.
February 22, 2019
Darkleer Last Friday at 9:26 AM
"That is. An admirable attitude to have." Finding joy in your work? What a wild concept.
Feferi Last Friday at 5:16 PM
You beam happily. "thanks!" you chirp. You look ahead and it seems you're not too far from where you began. "Whale we can head back now if you like or walk around a bit more and enjoy the good weather, waterever you'd like!" you tell him, leaving options so he won't feel like he has too one way or another.
Darkleer Last Friday at 5:30 PM
Oh, you're almost back, huh? Well that wasn't nearly as awful as you expected. It was still a lot to take in, and the thought of continuing is overwhelming. "Heading back sounds agreeable. We could. Continue the walk some other day."
Feferi Last Friday at 5:41 PM
You nod in agreement, "Shore fin! We definitely should!" You turn the way to head back and look up at him, "If you need anyfin you can always ask me. I'm happy to help how I can, Mr. Zahhak."
Darkleer Last Friday at 5:46 PM
"Ah. Hmm. Thank you. I will." Such a polite and friendly young lady. So different from... her. That is honestly refreshing, as surreal as the situation may feel.
Feferi Last Friday at 6:01 PM
Another beaming smile and a little more idea chatter and you reach the doors of the hotel. You then realize if he's going to be able to ask you for help, he'll probably need your contact info. "Do you have your own phone?" you ask him as pull the door open.
Darkleer Last Friday at 6:26 PM
"Ah. Yes. Red.. The Chief. Told me to get one." You carefully pull out your phone and an even smaller stylus. This technology was not made with giant metallic troll guys in mind. "Go ahead. Please."
Feferi Last Friday at 6:30 PM
You give in your number. "Feel free to call or text whenever, whatever is most comfortable for you," you say. "Also, if my lusus stops by with more food for you, feel free to only eat what you want. She's got a bad habit of loading people, myself included, with lots of food and baked goods ehehe. She'll try to figure out what you like best at least, though."
Darkleer Last Friday at 6:42 PM
"Ah.. I see. Thank you for the, uh. Warning. And help." You type in her number, then weight the necessity of being polite and offering yours in return against your need for not having your personal space disturbed. Hn. It would probably helpful for her to have your contact info for emergencies, solely on the base of being co-workers. So you end up pulling up your own number on your phone and hold it out to her. "If you.. need to add mine as well.."
Feferi Last Friday at 6:45 PM
Taking the phone with a smile, you quickly enter the number into your own. "Thanks! If you want I can text you lusus incoming warnings when I know she's on the move," you say with a playful wink.
Darkleer Last Friday at 8:59 PM
"Yes, that.. would be preferable. Thank you." You're still trying to figure out how to parse her demeanor. A little intense, but she seemed genuinely friendly and helpful.
Feferi Last Friday at 9:05 PM
He seems like a quiet sort, you think of how he mentioned having been with the military s you are unable to help adding, "Hey, can I ask, are you combat trained? Like close combat and the like?"
Darkleer Last Saturday at 12:28 AM
Well, that is a change of topic. Huh. "I, uh. Am mare specialized in ranged combat. But I know how to handle myself in meelee." Being able to overpower most enemies with sheer size and strength definitely helps though.
Feferi Last Saturday at 12:36 AM
You smile, "That's great! I've been wanting to learn more about how to deal with hand to hand combat myself and whale, if you have any suggestions on how I should start or tips I'd appreciate them a lot!" It would also be great to not rely on people who are probably gang associated for you education.
Darkleer Last Saturday at 12:43 AM
"That is.. a topic hardly suited for words alone. It depends a lot on physical fitness and practicing techniques so your muscle memory is STRONG enough to react when it is required. A good suggestion would be to find a good trainer or.. at least a reliable partner for training."
Feferi Last Saturday at 12:45 AM
Aw drat. A training partner... Where would you get one? You nod with quiet thoughtfulness. "Okay... I'll look into that. I work out at the gym but I mostly got training on a handgun," you admit.
Darkleer Last Saturday at 1:07 AM
"I wish you the best of luck with that." You find her efforts to be more prepared and suitable for the job admirable. Seadwellers are strong by nature, you're very well aware, but to be able to use that thoughtfully is a skill to be learned.
Feferi Last Saturday at 1:09 AM
"Thanks!" you say brightly. "Whale I won't keep you any longer. Take care and I'll see you later some time!"
Darkleer Last Sunday at 8:13 PM
You nod. "Uh. Thank you again. For your help. I'm certain working with you will be a pleasure.."
Feferi Last Sunday at 8:19 PM
Aw he's so nice! You beam one more smile before waving and heading off. You think you'll enjoy working with the newest Zahhak quite well. As soon as you're off desk duty that is.
February 25, 2019
Darkleer Yesterday at 9:56 PM
There she goes. You linger where you are for a little bit, undecided about what to do next. You could shop around but.. you didn't even prepare for what you may need. Including the proper finances. But a giant troll standing around in the middle of nowhere for too long seems highly in appropriate, so you decide to head back too, although a couple minutes later and with moderate pace to not risk having an awkard run-in with the little Peixes on the way back.

Can't close the stable door after the horse has bolted
Redglare 02/05/2019
So there you stood, the two of you side by side outside of the entrance to the massive precinct and law housing. The construction on it managed to finish in a timeline manner despite all the crisis and setbacks. It was a marvelous sight, and it was the place you lovingly called home.
"So, what do you think? It's breathtaking, isn't it? Our offices and housing are all here in this massive building." You look up at him with you hands on your hips.
Darkleer 02/05/2019
It sure was a building. A nice one, yeah, nicer than most trolls on Alternia might have. Not exactly better than what you used to have, at times when you still had a hive. Not that you should really care about looks. You don't. You've housed in a tiny hut for the last couple of years- You notice her eyes are still on you. ..Uh, she's.. expecting you to say something, right. Praise it, even? "Ah. Yes. It's nice."
Terrible. You did a terrible job, Darkleer.
This is already awfully tedious and you regret ever coming. Hng.
Redglare 02/06/2019
You give him a nudge and jerk your head in the direction of the door, making your way in and leading him to follow.
"Oh come on! Think of all the space you'll have to tinker!" You flash him a grin.
Darkleer 02/06/2019
"Uh. Sure." You follow obediently. It just slowly dawns on you that you may be expected to move into here too? Oh. Hm.
Redglare 02/06/2019
You prop your cane in the crook of your elbow to free up a hand to open the double doors. You outstretch your arms in a grand fashion and beam.
"Welcome! This is-"
And out the corner of your eye you spy... The Queen's maidens.
Darkleer 02/06/2019
You realize too late that you could have should have helped her with the door, especially with her cane. Well, matter, you can easily reach over her and hold the door open, ready to follow whenever she enters.
Your senses immediately pick up on a few presences though. Quite a few. Not sure if you'd like to engage....
Redglare 02/06/2019
You feel the door being propped open for you and redistribute your weight to your cane once more. You're too stubborn to ever ask for a hand but it's appreciated regardless. You realize now, however, that you forgot to mention the queen had these handmaidens.
"Hello, ladies! We have a new man on the force, but you don't have to fuss over him just yet. I'll give him the tour and call for you if we need help with his luggage." You send them away with an appreciative smile, fearing that their presence would bring him additional stress too early. However, it was probably best he was introduced to them with you in his presence rather than being startled by them later.
Darkleer 02/06/2019
"A-ah, thank you, I won't... be needing help. I can handle the luggage. No need to bother anyone with it..." You greet them with a few hesitant nods, just enough to not have to look up to them. One hand moves to push up the shades covering up the cameras that make your eyes. No need to freak out any residents of this place this soon already.
Redglare 02/06/2019
"Sorry, I probably should have warned we were going to be greeted by them. I just got so used to their presence." With a final wave to them, you continued walking through what was formerly a very grand hotel and what was now the lobby for the precinct and your homes. You wonder on where to begin, and remember that yes, he is carrying his luggage around.
"Did you want to drop off your belongings before we get started? You're welcome to pick any room from any of the floors that has not yet been taken. I still haven't picked one myself, haven't been around much to do so even though my stuff has been sitting in storage..."
Darkleer 02/06/2019
"I can just leave them here if they bother you." You wouldn't mind carrying them around for as long as you need to. The weight means little to you.
"I don't need much in my accomodations in terms of uh, appliances or comfort. Just space. Maybe if you have something like an unused garage... Or basement.. that would do."
Redglare 02/06/2019
You give him a puzzled look for his comment. Bothering you? Goodness, no. You weren't the one that was carrying them.
"It's up to you, they're your bags. As for the space you need..." You give it some thought and realize all you had seen in the building when scouting for a potential room were the residential wards and the kitchen.
"We could do a bit of exploring during the tour to figure that out, because I have no idea. Perhaps I can give Her Majesty a call and see what we can figure out for you."
Darkleer 02/08/2019
"I will hold onto them... for now. Until I find a good place to put them down. They would only be in the way here." You don't mind the prospect of exploring the place. Actually, you'd much rather do that for a whole day than having to consult anyone else around here but ah. That's not up to you. Guess you'll do the thing that normal people do and... talk with people.
"That would certainly make things easier." As long as she handled the call.
The thought of encountering Her Majesty runs a shiver down your spine. From all you've heard so far, the Prospitian queen seems friendly enough. But your last experience with directly serving under a ruler's order has been, well, subpar.
Redglare 02/10/2019
You nod your head and continue your walk, trying to decide what wing to start in first. This building was... a lot bigger than you remembered. "Of course I'll make the call, but you've got to meet her eventually you know."
You look behind and smile at him, a taunting grin that he had seen many times before, but it quickly melted into a warmer smile.
"She's absolutely wonderful. I feel such a sense of calm in her presence. Oh, you. I am so glad to have you here. Can you imagine how strange it feels to be, well, how many sweeps old are we now?" You ramble on in your excitement as you pick a hallway to lead him down. It took you a bit to remember but you think the kitchen is this way. It shouldn't be too busy at this time, you managed to time the tour when most have already had their breakfast and clocked into work. You also think it a good time to bring up what you and Pembrooke had spoken about just last night. "Something to help you get settled, I've got a potential job for you."
Darkleer 02/10/2019
"Too many.." you just reply.
You didn't exactly keep track of your age, especially recently. But you could easily figure out the exact number if you bothered. But what you have learned by now is that no creature should be allowed to last this long, for the sake of everyone else and themselves.
You quietly follow, carefully taking in any detail you can spot. If you're expected to reside here from now on, you should know your way around this place.
A job already? Well, you're not going to complain. Having something to keep you busy would be nice. You're just a bit surprised and possibly overwhelmed at how fast everything seems to happen. "What do you have in mind?"
Redglare 02/12/2019
"Too many indeed, but I'm finally feeling as if I'm doing something worthwhile with the rest of my sweeps. Not that what I tried before my disappearance wasn't but... Look you know what I mean." You give off a chuckle as you continue down the halls. You point out to him and explain each room of importance as you pass. Some were for meetings, some were offices. Some were gathering halls and eateries, and of course, the kitchen.
"Well, when I ducked out last night, I meant with Pembrooke to discuss all that happened since my absence. The force has got a bunch of tech from the enemy lines, which is great timing for your arrival. Is it within your skillset to track down what hands it's all been in and who produced it?"
Darkleer 02/13/2019
"Hm. I will.. have to see the tech. I work well with marechines, but to be honest, it is neigh impossible to keep up with all facets of programming and manufacturing that a single species can come up with. Let alone two or three..."
Ah. She hopefully didn't put all her hopes into you for this, did she? Hh.. You can do a lot of heavy duty and... build machines for heavy duty. You're also good at following leads, but it turns out the world develops far too quick for an old horse like you to keep up.
"I-I will take a look. It may be a very simple and obvious case. And if it's not, I will learn what is necessary.."
You hate to disappoint her, but it may already be far too late for that. Breaking news, you're not that great.
Skylla 02/13/2019
Yer name's Skylla Koriga and you've just changed out of yer uniform after a good day of woofbeast trainin'. Also patrol duty which wasn't all that great, but hey least nothing bad happened this time round.
You were planning on taking a small walk 'round the city; it sure is a big ol' city after all; and thus are in the hallway when ya spy Madam Redglare with....
Wait that ain't a Zahhak. Least ain't one ya know ya reckon.
Darkleer 02/14/2019
Well, your horns and size should definitely betray you as a Zahhak.
You spot her quickly. A future co-worker, probably. A bronzeblood, is she? By far not a small or frail looking one, but smaller than you regardless - and a lowblood. You're aware that blood castes are supposed to matter little in this city and you've long tried to leave the expectations and prejudices pounded into you by centuries of imperialistic indoctrination behind (emphasis on tried). But you can't assume that automatically means she is fine with your presence.
You hunch over a little, more or less consciously making yourself smaller, and turn your otherwise motionless face away.
"Good marening.."
Feferi 02/14/2019
You're name is Feferi Piexes and you are trotting down the hall from the other direction with a spring in your step. you spot Chief Redglare and suddenly feel more anxious. No doubt the inspector reported your folly with the with whole Eidan situation to her and it worries you that you are on thin ice with her. "Oh! H-hi Chief. Welcome home," you say with a bit of a worried smile. "ah and hello, sir," you greet the large Zahhak looking man with her. Wait, is he a Zahhak? Those horns are well, tall but very similar.
Darkleer 02/14/2019
Another guest arrives. Which isn't quite correct. You're the guest and this is their home.
You hear her approach right away, but you only turn around when she actually speaks up - and immediately freeze. A seadweller, and a fuchsia one on top. Such a young one, too.
A- and in a servicing position? She called Redglare 'chief'. Hh, that. Is going to take a while to wrap your mind around.
"Hhhell. O. Good mare- mer- ..rning."
Your eyes would go wide if you still had any. Unfortunately, your voice still betrays you. God, what a first impression.
Redglare 02/14/2019
Disappointed? You were nothing of the sort. You instead give a hearty laugh and nod your head at him. "I understand. Or rather, I don't! Which is why I thought to ask you. Just a simple look into it is more than enough for your first task, might be a good way for you to get to know who we're up against."
You were about to open your mouth to say something else but you were greeted by two of your officers. You worry their presence may overwhelm Darkleer, but now was a better time than any to get them aquainted in a relaxed fashion.
You give a way to the first troll that approached the two of you. "Hey there, officer. Apologies I didn't let you know right away I made it back, I know I still owe you lunch."
You turn and bow your head to Feferi, wondering if she was harbouring any fears for bumping into you. Her stammering gave it away. You simply wave and offer a warm greeting in return. "Hello, officer. Thank you, it's good to be back."
"These are two of the officers assigned to the precinct." You offer to Darkleer, looking at him to check for any signs of discomfort.
Skylla 02/15/2019
The need to defend yourself-- physically or verbally-- from the older bluebood is real strong in ya, but then he falters upon seeing Feferi, who also shows up and you take that moment t' reign in yer emotions. It ain't fair of ya t' assume this blueblood will be like those from home. Ya gotta take that chance right??
So you relax yer stance and give him, Fef and Chief a real pleasant smile. "Howdy Chief! Ya ain't gotta worry ' bout none o' that now!"
"And always nice t' meet a new lawfolk Sir! Officer Skylla Koriga at yer service!~"
You wonder how he's related to the Zahhaks if at all; same hatch cluster??
Feferi 02/15/2019
The fact that she's smiling at you and everything sort of only makes you more nervous. You nod to her then offer a hand to the newcomer, "Nice to meet you. I'm Officer Ferferi Piexes."
Darkleer 02/15/2019
Redglare knows you well enough to discover some signs of mild discomfort in you, which means your actual levels of discomfort are through the roof.
You just barely resist the urge to kneel before the young heiress. (Does she even qualify as such *more importantly does even want that do you even have any right to question any of that-)
Judging from the interaction with Redglare, a handshake seems to be the appropriate reaction. While your thoughts arw racing, you manage to make yourself take her hand, soft and careful to not risk hurting her, but somewhat incredibly stiff.
(It doesn't help that the Empress you served under would have gladly seen you licking her boots how could anyone possibly be expect you how to properly handle his situation and oh god did she say Peixes just like--)
"It's. A pleasure. I'm the Ex- Expatriate. Darkleer. Zahhak."
Feferi 02/15/2019
Expatriate? That is an odd title for someone to give themself but you aren't going to judge or make assumptions without hearing his story. A story you are in fact, absolutely curious about. "I look forward to working with you Mr. Zahhak!" you say cheerfully, trying to be something of your regular self in spite of your worry that the chief is going to reconfirm the inspector's admonishments and worse.
Skylla 02/16/2019
Expatriate? Ain't that meaning he be living outside his native land?? Hey just cause ya sound like a country bumpkin it don't mean ya don't know what them big words means! You reckon that he meant t' say a different title; but it ain't the time t' bother the blueblood 'bout it.
"Any relation t' them other Zahhaks we gots here Mr. Darkleer Sir?"
Darkleer 02/16/2019
Indeed, there is a different title. Once your whole pride and life, it feels even more shameful to wear than the one denoting you as the traitor and coward you ultimately are.
"I have... been told about them. I have yet to meet them." You cannot confirm or deny any relation to either of them, but considering the name and blood and apparent similarity. Well uh. It's an obvious case.
Skylla 02/16/2019
Hey to be fair to ya, it's only when ya got t' Midnight City that ya been seeing trolls of similar blood n type; it ain't common at all back on Alternia considerin' that ya don't got what the humans calls "siblings." And the blueblood before ya is loads of sweeps older for sure; it's not that obvious t' you.
"Well reckon they'd be mighty interested t' meet ya! Hope it goes well then Sir."
Redglare 02/16/2019
You watch with pride as the interactions between the three go swimmingly, hoping that his exposure to both a lowblooded troll and the highest of royalty in the same breath would have him come to realize how different things were in Midnight City. Castes of blood were almost inconsequential here, it was only irony that you, as a teal blood, found yourself in a roll similar to that which you once held.
"It's a good thing we all bumped into each other. I wasn't so sure how to surprise you all with his presence, but finding him was the cause of my being away. He's a good friend of mine, and I'm happy to have him on the force." You say with a beaming grin to your two officers. Yes, you had mentioned his descendants to him, and although you agree in their potential interest in meeting their ancestor, he still seemed apprehensive about their meeting.
You saw the signs of discomfort welling up in your dear friend, but hoped that this informal welcome would wash them away. He was difficult to read at times, and you worry that his self loathing was likely to remain as it had all these sweeps. But in due time you knew it in your heart that he'd come to love it here and dedicate himself to the force.
You look back to them after reaching to give him a gentle pat on the arm. "You two off duty now? I was trying to think of where else to bring him on our little tour. Still don't know my own way around here, so I'm doing a bit of discovery myself." You figure it best to set aside work business for now, the stress of the upcoming war must be on everyone's minds and you figure a bit of lighthearted banter and conversation would do everyone, including the ever-nervous Darkleer, some good.
Feferi 02/17/2019
"Oh yeah I am at the moment. My shift was earlier today," you say. "But if there's anything you need I'm happy to help."
Skylla 02/17/2019
"Same; was gonna go walk 'round town but reckon there's still loads of places t' check out right here." Come t' think of it, has the Chief moved in yet? You're sure she's got a home but ya haven't actually seen her round.... then again, she is the Chief so she probably real busy. Like PI!
"Well, we gots the weights n exercise room, as well as the rooftop areas n whatnot!" You suggest helpfully. "What places have ya both already been t'?"
Darkleer 02/18/2019
Oh, you're realizing how different things are here. You've most likely already noticed by observing some people out on the street on the way here. But this? Cultural shock would be an understatement.
Redglare's pat on your arm is not enough to actually calm you down by far, but manages to startle you out of yet another anxious-ridden train of thought. Ah. They're tagging along. Joy.
"Nowhere, really, besides the hallway.." Not to put Redglare on blast. You're just stating the facts. "We were on the way to the kitchen." The exercise room actually sounds tempting, but you'll probably get to that one sooner or later.
Feferi 02/19/2019
"There's also a pool. But I guess at this time of year I'm the only one who likes the water even when it's indoors," you say. On one hand more people hanging out at the pool with you would be great but at the same time, it was kinda nice that you mostly had it to yourself.
Redglare 02/19/2019
"That would be my fault, the direction less wandering." You laugh at Darkleer's throwing you under the bus, but don't take it to heart. You considered it an accidental light jest more than anything.
"A room for excercising and a pool, eh? We really do have everything here. More like luxury resort than a precinct, but I'm not complaining. Suppose I can show off the kitchen first, and then let either of you show us to where you'd like?" You motion for the two officers to continue along with you and Darkleer, thinking the invitation was only polite.
Skylla 02/20/2019
"I'm rather partial to the rooftops really." You admit a bit sheepishly. "Once the warm weather rolls on in, reckon me 'n the Inspector are gonna go abouts plantin' a rooftop garden. There's certainly the space for it! Though the gym is also pretty neat too." Gotta keep on workin' t' keep in shape after all! And also ya can't swim. Sorry Fef!
You're proud t' say you only hesitate a little before taggin' along. It still feels real weird t' be doin' this with highbloods that aren't tryin' t' kill ya.
Darkleer 02/20/2019
"I doubt the pool would be suitable for me.. though it is wonderfoal that such options are provided." You follow along towards the kitchen. In passing you glance briefly at the young Peixes, then at the lowblood, which.. is probably not the right term to refer to her as here, and you feel the rising sensation of wanting to make yourself even smaller.
"Gardens on the roof.. I did not think that is feasible, but that is a creative and efficient use of space."
Redglare 02/20/2019
Redglare's eyebrow raised at the mention of the rooftop garden. It sounded like something out of a movie. You've probably only tended to one plant in your life, and even that you were lucky it survived, but it sounded like something you wanted to be a part of.
The irony of this strange spectrum of trolls parading the hallway still hadn't left you, and you all held positions that would have never worked in Alternian standards, maybe save for yours.
"We have the space for all of it, I think it's great we've made a community out of the different branches of the force." You all managed to make it to where the kitchen was located, and point it out. "Y'know, I've been to this part. But I hadn't stepped foot in the dining room yet."
Feferi 02/20/2019
"Wow I didn't know about the garden. Not surprised though. Her majesty seemed to cover everything when she got this place for the force," you smile. "I'll bet she'd got a library or somefin else unexpected somewhale in this hotel."
Horuss 02/20/2019
You are one Horuss Zahhak and you are currently loitering within the kitchen of the dorms, of which you are neigh a permanent resident but you accepted the offer of a secondary accommodation for when it was too unreasonstable or you were simple unstable to return to your own stable, a good arrangement, certainly there was quite a bit of value to the idea.
Anyways you hoof just finished a particularly eventful shift and are taking the time to relax and unwind and get yourself something to eat, manely a salad of mixed vegetables and a few pieces of fruit afterwards. It is very difficolt to miss the collection of trolls making their hay into the room you currently inhabit so you do neigh.
You recognize two of them by introduction, one by reputation and choose to be wilfully in denial about the identity of the last and the far too numerous similarities between himself and you and Equius detailing a definitive possibility, certainty even, to his identity. Lovely. You nod to the group, "Greetings," then take a bite of a piece of tomato, technically a fruit but still allowed within the classification of what is acceptstable for salad.
Darkleer 02/21/2019
The mention of 'her highness' puts you at unease once more. You have yet to meet her, but your experiences people in power, especially of the female variant, have been franky abyssmal. But. She wasn't Her Imperial Condescension, and the people around here spoke of her with admiration, so... maybe she was quite alright.
You quietly follow, occupied by your thoughts and worries, until your group reaches the kitchen. You immediately recognize him, of course. Mostly because it has been pointed out to you more than once that your very descendants are abou, else you might have been inclined to deny his existance as much as he does. You've already been dreading the day you meet them, but you absolutely weren't prepared for that to be today.
You freeze up just outside the door as your everything revolts at the mere thought of making even another step forward and having to confront your very own legacy.
Redglare 02/22/2019
Ah! The timing of this couldn't be more awkward. Another new officer you had yet to meet to get to know, and of course he's one of the Zahhak's you had mentioned to Darkleer. You've heard great things about his work so far, and while you're happy to finally meet with him, you fear it might be too soon for your dearest friend.
Did he just bite into a tomato?
"Hey there, officer. You must be Horuss. My apologies for not having met with you yet, I'm Chief Redglare." Your assumption was most likely correct from the matching horns. You notice that while Darkleer fought through his anxiety to greet the other two you had caught up with, he had yet to manage even a hello at the troll before them. You give him a tiny nudge with your elbow.
Feferi 02/22/2019
"Oh hi Horuss!" you greet him warmly. Looking around you remember you need to go pick up some food your lusus wants. "I've got to go, but I'll see you all later. Nice you meet you!" you tell the newest Zahhak before waving to all and heading off.
Horuss 02/22/2019
A singular ear flicks backwards before returning to a mare neutral position in a quick motion as you notice the... other Zahhak freeze utterly and completely. Neigh too impressive for an initial face-to-face reaction, neigh too impressive insteed. Your attention shifts away decisively as Redglare's words request your attention.
"Insteed, Horuss Zahhak, pleasure to meet you Chief." Your words to Redglare are ones with a polite, respectfoal difference as befitting to speaking with a superior. "There is neigh need for apology for being occupied with other duties."
"A pleasant hay to you Feferi," you offer the seadweller as she makes her departure of the group.
Skylla 02/23/2019
Aw well shit. Now yer on yer own with two much older and far higher trolls. Least Horuss is here though ya reckon he don't look all that pleased t' be seeing the Expatriate. It ain't none of yer business though so ya ain't gonna bring it up.
Instead ya give Horuss a wave in greeting. "Howdy Partner! How ya been??"
Horuss 02/24/2019
"I hoof been well enough, Miss Koriga, thank you for the inquiry," words accompanied by a nod in her direction. "I trust the hays hoof been treating you kindly in return?"
Darkleer 02/26/2019
It is indeed to much for Redglare's dearest friend. Horuss' noteable refusal to ackowledge you was both a relief and a painful sting into the exact fear that almost kept you from coming in the first place. Maybe he just didn't recognize who you are, which honestly would probably be the best for all involved. Or if he chooses to ignore you, well, so be it.
The little elbow nudge manages to snap you out of your paralysis, though possibly in opposite effect than she intended. While your descendant is distracted with the bronze-blood you turn at Redglare. "I, uh. Will wait elsewhere. Excuse me."
Redglare 03/04/2019
You're dismayed at this turn of events. Perhaps you set your expectations too high, perhaps you didn't know your officers as well as you thought. You also curse yourself for having this idea in your head about someone you had not yet met. Maybe Horuss was just as shocked to see his ancestor yet lives as Darkleer was surprised to hear about his descendents? Still, you feel guilty that the first meeting did not go pleasantly.
You look up to get a reading on Darkleer's face and manage a small smile and concern in your voice. "We could leave them to catch up and continue on our tour if you'd like. I'm sure Skylla could catch up later to us later to show off what she wanted."
Darkleer 03/04/2019
Yet again you're a coward. In a situation where much less is at stake, admittedly. But a a coward still. And what a disappointment you must be to the young Zahhak - if not yet, then definitely now.
Fortunately, at least Redglare is merciful on you and your pathetic plight. "That.. would be favorable, yes" you nod, eyes strongly fixated on the Chief so you don't have to see Horuss' reaction.
Horuss 03/04/2019
You are neigh disappointed by the turn of events, to be disappointed you would hoof needed to hoof high hopes of some kind and your expectation about this particular for-mare improbability had been completely neigh-existent. You are neigh too surprised to see him connect the Zahhak name with coward once mare though, it is, something you know how to deal with.
You do neigh allow yourself a STRONG outwards reaction, you are going to keep your polite and professional difference to the situation at hoof and allow him the retreat he wishes.
Redglare 03/06/2019
You offer an understanding smile and nod your head. With a hushed tone, "I can come up with something for our departure."
You hold up your hand to both officers and betray non of your internal emotions. Instead, you appear as your usual excitable and tired self when you call out to them. "We're gonna let the two of you catch up and keep going with our exploration! We've got a lot of ground to cover on Darkleer's first day. It was good to see you officers, I'll make sure to get better aquainted with you both."
Skylla 03/07/2019
"So far so good Partner!~" Ya chuckle, forgettin' for a moment that there's two Ancestors in the same space as yerself n Horuss. Though ya gotta admit, he be actin' real polite-like; like way more than normal.
Then yer Chief speaks up and yer reminded real quick 'bout the situation yer in. Ya wouldn't mind chatting up Horuss but ya don't wanna bug him neither. And yet ya reckon ya ain't quite ready t' be on yer own with two much older highbloods.
" Ah... is that right?? Well if Partner here don't mind a bit o' company...?"

Horuss Last Tuesday at 12:07 PM
Ah, that truly confirms it for you. Darkleer, you know that name near better than your own. Hmmm, seems you were right to hoof long discarded any want you previously had to gain... whatever the Empire had wanted you to in regards to him. You nod at the Chief's words focusing on Skylla and completely dismissing the two elder trolls, allowing your ancestor his retreat. "I do neigh mind the company Miss Koriga."
Darkleer Last Tuesday at 5:52 PM
Ah. Hh. She mentioned your name. Well, it wasn't much but of a secret, but now he knows for sure. Hn.
"Thank you." You step back a little, then anxiously wait for Redglare to join you and guide you around.
