Infested Ghoul Former residents of the once bustling blighttown, now desolate and laid to rot and despair. With minds twisted by the Curse and bodies twisted by Chaos, they stalk the scaffolding in search of Undead flesh. Some have retained the ability to use swords and shields, while others resort to swinging corpses that were once likely victims of those who now wield them. No matter what weapon their swinging at you, though, all Ghouls have a habit of lunging at you and grabbing, biting, and usually killing you.

Infested Barbarian Denizens of Blighttown that have festered and rotted with once thriving town around them, their flesh giving way to rot and decay. Primitive in their weaponry, they’ve taken a liking to using the simplest of tools like clubs and boulders. Though they tend to pack a lunch, the clubbed variation tends to have horrible aim once you decide to circle around them for a backstab. Their boulder rolling brothers, on the other hand, tend to be relatively accurate with their boulder throwing and rolling, and also swing a little faster with their much heavier weapons. What they once were is relatively ambiguous, though one can speculate they were once just simple barbarians running amok in the Great Swamp, falling victim to the Undead Curse and possibly the corruption of Chaos, given their proximity to the Quelaag’s Domain.

Boss: The Gaping Dragon Standing as one of the last descendants of the everlasting dragons, this hulking monstrosity began its life as a normal dragon, but through insatiable hunger became a creature of gluttonous envy; a living maw. Although it’s size may be imposing, the beast will quickly prove itself to not be much of a threat. Especially given the size of the arena, it’s incredibly easy to exploit this bosses move set. After the Gaping Dragon initially lunges, it’s always best to circle around, attack the tail a few times, and then flee in the opposite direction before the dragon regains its senses. After coming to and charging again, the process is easily repeated. Some ponder that The Gaping Dragon may have originated from the depths of Blighttown. The hole it emerges from seems to lead nowhere that would be accessible otherwise, so it’s difficult to argue given the location the dragon is found in, as well as the fact that it drops the Blighttown Key upon defeat.

Basilisk Horrid, reptilian creatures that lurk in The Depths of Lordran, as the well the descent to Ash Lake down through The Great Hollow. While they possess no physical attacks and deal no actual damage to the player, they have a disgusting habit of spewing out a toxic cloud of cursing mist, and if anyone is caught in it for more than a few seconds, they are petrified and cursed. Being cursed is by far the worst status ailment that can be inflicted on a player. Their health will be halved permanently until their curse is lifted, and the only way to do that is either with a (very expensive) Purging Stone or by speaking to a specific NPC in the New Londo Ruins. Either way, it’s just best to avoid getting cursed, so it’s wise to lure these creatures out one at a time. They may not seem dangerous one on one, but a swarm of two or three is sure to get you cursed.

Slime A large, gelatinous mass that dwells in the sewers of The Depths. They like to hang from the ceiling, dropping down on unsuspecting passerby. It’s possible to shoot them down, which is recommended, because they’re drop attacks can deal a significant amount of damage. They have an aversion to fire and are a little weak to magic, but most melee attacks will only deal a small amount of damage, boasting a solid 9-10 hits per slime. Their own melee arsenal is somewhat lacking, though, making it a dull “challenge” nonetheless.

Butcher The undead butchers of The Depths, now hollowed but still dutifully carrying out their task. Upon descending from the “dining” area within The Depths, the first butcher is found surrounded by Undead Attack Dogs, eternally hacking at the indistinguishable pile of meat that lie before her. The second, on the other hand, tried to look past her burly and cumbersome gait and attempts to sneak up on anyone that wanders past the room Laurentius has been imprisoned. Wielding a stake and a cleaver matching the size of any ordinary human, these butchers have the physical prowess to take on most any unprepared foe, although they lack the speed to intimidate most skilled players. It’s best to bait and swing with these foes, as one miscalculation can send you across the room with one swing of their massive cleaver.

Boss: Capra Demon An infamous enemy, known for his canine accompaniment making the battle with this demon of chaos much more intensive. There are many methods to making this battle easier, one being to fiendishly toss firebombs over the fog gate until it kills him without having to enter the room (it takes takes about 13-14 to fully deplete his health). Borne of chaos, just the same as his brethren in the Undead Burg and the Northern Undead Asylum, the Capra Demon remains guard over the key to The Depths. One on one, he isn't a very tough adversary, but the addition of the Undead Attack Dogs can make his fight grueling. If you don't take the easy route, it's best to dispatch the dogs first before taking on the boss.

Undead Assassin A hollowed thief of the Lower Undead Burg, gone mad thanks to the undead curse. Always attacking in tandem, they tend to sit in pairs or small groups in narrow alleys or behind obscure corners, waiting to catch anyone off guard. One particular group is assisted by a group of Undead Attack Dogs, only adding more insanity to their maniacal onslaught. They have a unique move set, given their ability to climb over the character and attack them from behind; a skill most casual players would be unprepared for. They move quickly, sidestepping more often than walking and possess one strange trait in which where most enemies would fall over by something such as the Emit Force miracle, they simple backflip and resume their attacks. The Lower Undead Burg, by its name, seems to have obviously been designated to the lower class of Lordran, leading one to believe it may very well have been home to these thieves and assassins before they went hollow.

Undead Attack Dog Another beast that has sadly succumbed to the curse of the undead, rendering these canines a feral husk of their former selves. Known to be a terrible nuisance, these dogs are clever at hiding and jumping out to attack from the dark recesses of the Lower Undead Burg and The Depths. It's not too clear if these dogs were kept as typical pets before the undead curse or if they were already ravenous beasts in their time, but what is clear is how goddamn annoying they are on the descent down the stairs into the Lower Undead Burg.

Boss: Bell Gargoyles The living stone guardians of the first Bell of Awakening, placed high above in the belfry of the Undead Parish. At first, only one is encountered, but when that gargoyle is close to death, his partner will arrive brandishing the same weapon coupled with an ability to breathe fire. The slopes of the parish roof can be somewhat troubling during the fight, but typically the largest issue for most players is the two large and powerful enemies quickly overwhelming them. With that, this is also the first fight that some players are able to summon assistance, granted at probably the most opportune time. The first Gargoyle's tail can be cut off to acquire it as a weapon, but the second Gargoyle's tail seems to have already broken off. The question still stands as to whether or not the Gargoyles were placed there specifically to guard the Bell of Awakening, but given the juxtaposition of the bell being placed in a tower surrounded by Gargoyles (even though only two of the four come to life) it can be presumed.

Channeler Servant of Seathe The Scaleless, tasked with essentially kidnapping young women for Seathe's experiments. The results of these experiments lie deep within the Duke's Archive, the home of Seathe that remains teeming with Channelers. They would trap these young women in large Crystal Golems to transport them back, so it is no surprise to see them around the channelers occasionally as well. They are not the strongest melee fighters, but are advanced in sorcery and will often powerful soul arrows at the player. Their melee prowess is weak, and will often teleport away after the player deals a sufficient amount of damage up close. As aforementioned, most channelers are found within the Duke's Archive, but are sporadically found throughout Lordran, still seeking young maidens to take for Seathe's experiments.

Berenike Knight Knights of Berenike, mighty armor clad warriors renowned for their strength. Many undead Berenike Knights ventured to Lordran in the same vein all others, but failed just as they did and now wander aimlessly. Even now, they are as formidable as they once were, and are now even more dangerous due to becoming hollow. It seems one of these Knights managed to make it into Anor Londo, but was seemingly trapped within the Painted World of Ariamis before he, too, lost his sanity. These Knights boast a large amount of strength as well as stamina, and each hit they land can deal a hefty amount of damage, especially the one found in the Undead Parish. It's best for beginners to strafe to the side and carefully chip at his health one swing at a time.
