I watched Infinity War today, sometimes I question why I liked it so much because half the things they do pisses me off. Especially Quill he pisses me off so much.
And STEVE, don’t even get me started on him. “We don’t trade lives,” JUST A MOVIE A GO YOU WERE PREACHING THAT WE NEED ACCEPT THAT IN YOUR LINE OF WORK YOU CAN’T SAVE EVERYONE. And than he goes ahead sacrifices a bunch of people (POCs) to save a ROBOT! Who mind you could be made again.
But I guess that only applies to faceless people. Not to the people you know personally and especially not if Wanda loves that person. I hate his hypocritical ass so much.

On Narrative Bias
I keep saying it annoys me how Wanda has done so many evil ass things and is never held accountable for her actions, and it never fails that someone tries to respond with “but aren’t you a loki stan? He’s done evil shit too! So you have a double standard and are a misogynist!!!!” Yeah, no. The difference is that you can clearly tell who the writers have predetermined as a hero vs a villain. You can tell who they want you to root for. Loki’s actions are given narrative consequences as harsh as possible, while Wanda’s are narratively excused and softened and sympathised. Let me show you what I mean.
* Loki commits treasons, tries to kill his brother & attempts genocide -> Loki’s father rejects him while he attempts suicide
* Loki tries to conquer earth -> Loki is sentenced to life in prison
* Loki incapacitates the king and secretly takes the throne -> Loki is threatened with a hammer to the face, we’re reminded how awful he is by all the other characters for the rest of the movie & he would’ve faced more consequences if the apocalypse hadn’t interrupted
* Loki steals the tesseract from the vault -> Loki watches his brother be tortured & then has his neck snapped
Now compare that to…
* Wanda willingly signs up to work for a nazi organisation, tries to help an evil robot murder the avengers, intentionally sets the hulk loose on a town of innocent people, & helps destroy Sokovia for a lil while -> Wanda gets a fatherly pep talk from Clint & is immediately accepted as an Avenger
* Wanda accidentally murders a bunch of people while on a mission -> Wanda is put on temporary house arrest in a giant mansion with her boyfriend
* Wanda buries her boyfriend/teammate under like 10 floors of concrete, breaks out of house arrest, & goes against a government order -> the leader of the superhero team defends her, a grown ass woman, by saying “She’s just a kid!”, she’s detained in a government prison for like a week maybe (?) during which she’s shown as a sad helpless victim to encourage sympathy from viewers, & then she gets busted out by the ex-team leader & eventually gets to run off to Scotland with her boyfriend
* Wanda holds an entire town hostage & tortures them just to fulfil her own grief-fuelled fantasy -> one of the women Wanda attacked reassures her that she’s the actual victim in all this and that the people she tortured just have no idea what she’s sacrificed for them & she escapes to an isolated location to read a forbidden demon book and make herself more powerful without anyone interfering
* Wanda goes on a serial killing spree across the multiverse, kidnaps a child, holds her hostage, tortures her, & attempts to take her powers all so she can steal another Wanda’s children because she misses her children that were never actually real in the first place -> Wanda gets some badass power sequences and #girlboss one liners, is the one that destroys the demon book, essentially saving the multiverse from future corruption, & is allowed to die a hero’s death (which we all know isn’t permanent)
See the difference?

Боже, я увидела всего лишь адекватное мнение о Ванде на скринах, но ее фанаты до сих пор не могут принять, что не все любят из богиню...
Randomly stumbled across yet another video complaining that Wanda was not punished enough
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHoitPLZNKg
I guess to this video’s credit, it does at the very least try to understand our side of the argument, but it still makes the same old points that her actions are indefensible and that she is an irredeemable monster.
The comments were the same old anti-Wanda rhetoric, but here were a few that really set me off:
Tumblr media
Fuck it, I’m debunking all of these:
1. she joined SHIELD, not Hydra. She didn’t even know what Hydra was. And she didn’t do it for revenge; she did it to help end the conflict in Sokovia.
2. False! Stark got the idea for Ultron because he saw that Strucker had been playing with his suits, and he saw the AI in the scepter as a way to make Ultron a reality. All Wanda’s illusion did was give him a way to justify the clearly dangerous operation to himself.
3. Ultron told the twins he was going to kill the Avengers. That’s it. They never wanted to cause the deaths of innocents.
4. Wanda’s powers rendered all of the Avengers, including Thor, completely inoperative. How was she supposed to know the same thing wouldn’t happen to Bruce? Also Johannesburg is over 300 miles from the coast; did she even know it existed?
5. lol what?
Tumblr media
Given the fact that no one looks malnourished at the end of the series, and the fact that we see the people that the Hex isn’t actively puppeting are just in suspended animation (so I doubt it was making them eat), I think it’s reasonable enough to assume the magic itself was sustaining them, so no one starved or died of thirst.
Tumblr media
LMFAO at the quotes around the ‘accidentally’. Do they honestly think she meant to kill people in Lagos?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You heard it here folks; Wanda is more evil than Hydra. /s
Also, lol what? “Months and months”? It was a week at the most. (Not that that’s an excuse, because this is still a horrible thing, but don’t misrepresent the facts.)

Фанатик Ванды не может справиться с правдой... Бедняга
“You all got tricked into feeling bad for Wanda, and then Raimi/Waldron pulled off the veneer 🤓”
I’ve subjected myself to a lot of bad Wanda takes, but few of them have made me as mad as this one. I first saw it back when it was posted, but I recently stumbled across it again, and figured it was worth sharing.
Tumblr media
“MoM finally treated Wanda like the monster she is 🤡”
Tumblr media
I love the use of the term “sympathy-bait” to imply that she doesn’t deserve mercy, or that her pain is irrelevant.
Tumblr media
“Wanda is an irredeemable monster who does not deserve sympathy, and the fact that she got it is wrong 😡!”
Also, LMFAO at the idea that MoM was faithful to her character. Get fucked!
Tumblr media
Holy shit, imagine unironically thinking Wanda is more evil than Thanos, or that the Darkhold didn’t actually change her.
However, as much as I hate to give this fucker any credit, I have to agree that no one will ever trust another redemption story for Wanda.
Tumblr media
“MoM treated Wanda the way she deserves to be treated.”
So yeah, I hate every word of this take. It’s clear to me that this user didn’t want to feel sympathy for Wanda, and was relieved when Raimi and Waldron gave them what they wanted to the point where they tried to twist everything that came before to make this look like the natural direction of things.

Maybe where the reader had a similar life to Wanda? I mean, the reader spent, for example, 15 years in Hydra and they experimented on her, so she has similar powers to Wanda. Maybe the reader she survived a blip and is 29 years old still traumatized by Hydra and Stephen Strange is taking care of her when he finds her crying in the bathroom

Tumblr media
Tired didn’t describe how she felt. Exhaustion didn’t seem to cover it either. It was deeper than that. It felt like whatever it was afflicting her had settled into her bones. It took everything to drag herself from the bed each morning, took hours to convince herself to venture downstairs to eat, to offer a smile to the other residents in the compound, force herself into the gym where she no longer found any joy in running or punching or lifting, and attend the government regulated and sanctioned psychology appointments that were dependent on her staying in the Avenger’s Compound. Because she was a refugee and if not, she would be considered a threat to the country and extradited immediately.
It had been bad, but the past few days it had been awful. She’d woke up on Sunday and couldn’t fathom leaving, so she’s fallen back asleep and woke up sometime in the early hours of Monday morning. When she woke up she recognized she needed to use the restroom, but the idea of rolling out of bed was unfathomable. She had simply slinked back under the covers and curled into a ball. She laid there she didn’t know how long, but she eventually saw the sun peeking through her blanket fort and onto the bed.
The sunlight was hateful. She took it as a personal offense as if it weren’t the most natural thing to happen every day. But it felt like an attack. It felt like the world reminding her she had to live another God-awful day in the hell she had created for herself. If she were smart, she would have let one of Tony Stark’s bombs land a foot in front of her and accepted the end. Instead, when the HYDRA operatives had come to offer protection as long as she would offer her allegiance in return, she’d taken it.
She hadn’t realized her life would be gone either way.
She let herself lay in the bed all day again, staring at the ceiling, staring at the bathroom door taunting her, her bladder aching, making her entire body sore. But she couldn’t garner the will to get up and pee. She used to fight for her goddamn life and now she couldn’t even work up the courage to take a piss.
Even the fucking blip wasn’t kind enough to take her. It had left her in that compound with Nat and Steve, both of who still insisted she stay inside as much as possible, and practically withered away for five years. Her friend… her family had been taken for her. Wanda had been blipped, Vision sacrificed, Tony dead and gone. Then, to top it all off, Wanda had run away without a trace. She was completely and utterly alone. Not a person in the whole place who understood her the way she was desperate to be understood. Not a single person who seemed to suffer from the same exhaustion she did.
It had all happened so quickly. It all came tumbling down so fast for her, when in reality it had been over a decade. But it was always one thing after another. And maybe that’s why she had come to dread pulling herself out of bed each morning. Maybe, if she simply laid there, she could avoid the next thing coming. She wanted to avoid the next thing coming. She was tired of playing this game; feeling like a patient in a psych ward, feeling like the loser in a group of heroes, feeling like a child when her peers were the same age, some younger!
She was tired, but it was more than that.
She was simply done.
Her only saving grace, the only thing she found herself living for, was him. He wasn’t hers, make no mistake. She had no claim to him, she had no right to feel for him the way she did… and of course, because the world was cruel, he was nearly a decade older than him and the one person left in the compound who had any right to see her as the child they all treated her like. But she drawn to him. He understood, if only a bit. He understood what it felt like for life to change in a single second. He understood the loss, the pinning, the wishing for things that would never be.
He understood that.
He understood her better than anyone left. And she didn’t want to disappoint him.
This was exactly why as the clock struck twelve in the morning she finally dragged herself from the bed and stumbled toward the bathroom. Her legs shook, her entire body sweating trying to get rid of fluids however it could. It hurt when she finally collapsed on the toilet, her stomach aching and body screaming its anger for the way it’d been treated. To distract herself, she reached over and flipped on the shower. Cold. She wanted a cold shower, she wanted to freeze out any feeling she could. She flushed the toilet and stood, fully intent to undress and get in the shower, but instead, she found herself collapsing to the ground. She entered the fetal position and was amazed to hear herself let out a cry. It had been so long since she cried. She had been too numb to do it, but here she was, laying on the tile floor, counting the tears as they fell one after the other.
Before she knew it her body was shaking with sobs, a puddle forming on the tile below. She couldn’t see, couldn’t think, hell, she couldn’t breathe. And it felt good. It felt good to lay there a mess on the floor and break down. It was a relief.
That was until she felt two arms wrap around her, a voice in the distance wrapped both in concern and anger. Her body was pulled around a bit, she could feel hands roaming over her, questions she couldn’t respond to being asked. Eventually, her head was pressed against something hard and soft at the same time. She thought she was dreaming when she felt herself lifted from the floor, a short distance where her limbs dangled to the side before she met the familiar warmth of her mattress. It seemed to immediately soothe her, the same effect a swaddle would have on a baby. She clung to whoever it was that had taken her from the floor, and they didn’t move to let go. There was a pause and some shuffling before she felt the dip of the bed and she was taken into a warm embrace, soft words being murmured in her ear.
“I-it isn’t fair.” She chokes out after she didn’t know how long. It had taken forever to simply formulate the sentence and speak it into existence, “I-I-I hate it, s’not fair.” She chokes out, back heaving, tears still streaming down her cheeks, but her breathing marginally better
The unidentified person shushed her gently, murmuring reassurance and holding her tighter. If she weren’t mistaken, she felt tears that weren’t her own roll down the back of her neck. Whatever the man was wearing— man she assumed from the brief scent she’d caught taking an indecent sniff to try and clear snot from her nasal cavity— was thick and heavy, but it was soft too.
She wasn’t sure how long she spent laying there lost in her own sadness and desperation before sleep took over, carrying her away in the best slumber she’d had in ages, the arms of her protector wrapped around her tight, soft words still being murmured in her ear.
Tumblr media
When she woke up, she wasn’t immediately sure what was going on. She felt disoriented, though very well rested. She couldn’t remember much of anything at all. The last thing she remembered was sitting down on the bathroom floor, the sound of the water beating down in the background. What frightened her when her senses awoke, was the weight of something heavy around her waist and pressing into her back.
She opened her eyes and noted that she was still in her own room and that calmed her a bit. She was somewhere safe. She rolled over carefully and her breath caught in her throat finding a pair of dazzling bright blue eyes staring down at her. Her heart was pounding in her ears, a flush covering her cheeks as she realized that she was wearing only a tee and he wasn’t wearing one at all. Her eyes must have been wide as saucers, but he only smiled down at her softly, his arm not moving from her waist, no distance being placed between them.
“S-stephen?” She stutters out, “I- what… when…” Her brain was going haywire trying to decide where to start before she blurted out, “Did we sleep together?”
He gives a deep chuckle, the sound resounding around them room and sending her heart fluttering, “No, Dear, I assure you of that. You were in no state.” He pauses a moment, a small smirk pulling at the corner of his lips as he adds, “Though, I can’t say that the idea is unappealing.”
She gives a little huff and shoves the covers from her body, rolling over him and out of the bed. Stephen gives a small ‘oof’ at the unanticipated action, sitting up and turning to hang his legs off the side of the bed as she begins pacing the floor. What the hell had happened? She’d needed to pee… she’d really needed to pee. And then the floor...
The floor and the crying.
Holy fuck he’d seen her like that.
It all started flooding back. The pain, the loneliness, the sadness, the anger. She’d been on the floor, she’d been crying so hard she couldn’t fucking breathe and he’d found her like that. He’d come to check on her like he always did and he saw her that way.
“Hey, take it easy.” Stephen says, standing and walking over to her, “What’s wrong? I’m sorry if it was invasive of me to stay in the bed like that, I tried to floor for a while after you fell asleep, but—“
“God, Stephen it’s not you being in my bed, I don’t give a damn about that.” She huffs out, running her hands through her hair, “I’m mortified with how you found me last night. I didn’t even remember when I woke up—“
“There’s nothing wrong with—“
“Yes there is!” She exclaims, “I didn’t want you to see me like that— you of all people!” Her eyes start to well with tears again and she forces them back, “I would have never… I don’t want you to see me like that.”
“Why not?” He asks, a frown pulling on his face
“Because it’s. embarrassing!” She says, “It’s embarrassing to think you found me sobbing on the bathroom floor like some drunk girl at the bar— that’s awful! That’s not what I want you to see me as!”
Stephen stands there staring at her silently for a moment before stating calmly, “That’s not what I see you as.” He takes a step toward her and her heart pounds in her ribcage as he takes her hand in his own. Those beautiful hands he was so ashamed of. Those beautiful hands that changed everything in a second. “I don’t see you as your bad days. I see you as the days when you come downstairs and brew fresh coffee and pour a cup for me even though you know I prefer tea. I see you who you are in the gym going toe to toe with James Barnes, holding your own in a way most people could only dream of. I see you when the weather is nice and you lay out by the poolside with Natasha trying to soak up the sunshine. I see you in the nights I come to check on you and you’re curled up with a book in your hand or watching the same dumbass movie for the hundredth time in a row.”
His eyes search her own and she wasn’t expecting him to continue, “I see you in Wanda when I go to check on Westview… I see what you’re capable of and I’m so proud that you continue to devote yourself to using it for good. I see you when the sunset burns red like your magic, and I see you in the face of every HYDRA operative I’ve ever sent into another dimension to rot. That’s what I see you as. I don’t see you as the pain and suffering, I see you as the good, as the healing, as the effort.” He reaches up and cups her cheek in a shaking hand, “I see you as the good days, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with the bad ones.”
He runs his thumbs under her eyes gently, wiping away a tear and she shakes her head, “Every day is a bad day. It’s been bad for so long and I just keep trying to survive, hoping it will get better, and it just doesn’t Stephen.” Her bottom lip trembles as she whispers, “I just want to give up.”
“Doll…” He says, pulling her against his chest, craning his head to rest it against her own, “I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were feeling this way. I didn’t realize until now, I would have tried harder—“
“I’m not your responsibility, Stephen.” She mutters, “It’s not something you can fix.”
“But I can try to make it easier for you.” He says, “I’m sorry I haven’t been by in a few days, I was on a mission with Wong…” He sighs, “I think about you every minute I’m not here. I just want to get back to you. I want to hear about your day and your therapy and how you’re feeling.” He gives a sort of grunt, “I realize now that it’s possible you haven’t been honest with me when I ask.”
“I didn’t want to be a burden.”
“You’re not a burden, Y/N. I care about you.” He whispers, “I don’t know what I’d do with myself if you did give up. I don’t know what I’d do without you here. I love seeing you. I love spending time with you, even if we’re just sitting here in your room.” He smiles down at her, “Even if I’m just laying next to you while you sleep. You make such cute little sleepy noises.”
She gives a choked little giggle, “Shut up, Stephen.”
“I mean it.” He says, “I do. I like you a lot, Y/N. I’ve been crazy for you since the first time I laid eyes on you.” He tucks a piece of hair behind her ear and asks shyly, “I’d like to know if you feel the same.”
She nods, “Yeah, I do.”
“Okay.” He whispers back with a faint smile, “I um… I’d like to get you in a good place. I’d like to get you in a place where you’re comfortable with yourself before we try…” He trails off, “I just want to know you’re safe and here to stay, okay? Can you keep trying for me?”
She nods more enthusiastically, “Yeah, yeah… I can.”
“Good.” He agrees, “Why don’t you go get in the shower, I assume you never took yours last night. You shower, I’ll go grab food, and then I can walk you to your psych appointment. How does that sound?”
“Can we go to the gym afterward?”
“I have a class to teach right after you get out, but I can come back before dinner. We can workout and then maybe we can cook something together?”
She smiles up at him as he wipes away the last of her tears, “I’d like that a lot.” He smiles back and you add, “I’d also like… if you wanted to— I mean if you could— would you stay with me again? I haven’t slept that well in a long time.”
“I’d be glad to.” He says placing a kiss on her forehead, “Now go get in the shower, stinky.”
She scoffs and swats at his chest, “You know what? Forget it. Sleep in your own bed tonight.”
The last thing she hears as she rushes into the bathroom is a groaned, “I was kidding!”

Marvel Sidelined Doctor Strange In His Own Movie
Tumblr media
When I watched this movie at the theatres, I was completely entranced. Despite the fact that I do not enjoy horror or gore, it did not affect my enjoyment of the movie at all. The change in aesthetic and shift in genre from what Marvel generally produces also did not faze me. After watching the TV shows of phase 4, I was used to changes in genre, tone and theme. So I was shocked when I heard that many fans did not enjoy the movie.
But after marinating on it for a day, I think I understand why.
Marvel’s Changes In Genre, Tone and Aesthetic
Tumblr media
Up until phase 4, Guardians of The Galaxy and Thor: Ragnorak have been the biggest deviations in genre for the MCU. Marvel has built its fanbase by creating conventional superhero movies so it’s no surprise that many fans are frustrated by the sudden changes in genre, tone and aesthetic. I’m sure that even just a few years ago, no one would have expected Marvel to release a sitcom. And so it’s perfectly valid to feel hesitant to accept change.
Marvel is evolving, whether fans want it or not. Phase 4 of the MCU is by far its most diverse collection of stories present (both in terms of the characters and the range of genres). In order to remain an MCU fan, one must let go of preconceived ideas of what a superhero should be.
I think the biggest reason why so many fans have reacted negatively to phase 4 is due to an unshaking loyalty to the movies that built the foundation of the MCU. Fans are so caught up in their own expectations that they fail to enjoy the movie for what it is. To some fans, this deviation feels like a betrayal but it’s not.
The fact of the matter is that the movies that built the foundation of the MCU are generic superhero stories (I say this despite loving them deeply). They lack diversity and you could find countless stories like them. Though we may feel a nostalgic connection to them, if they are all we receive, the MCU will become boring. No one, not even die hard MCU fans, will be happy if every movie is about the same white man who created his own problems through ego and recklessness (Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Bruce Banner, Hank Pym, Thor and so on).
Marvel Doesn’t Slow Down For Anyone
Tumblr media
Marvel has created such a devoted fanbase that they now expect viewers to have watched every movie and TV show produced by them. The truth of the matter is that the MCU is just one giant TV show. If you want to enjoy a movie, you have to watch every movie that comes before it. They don’t do recaps or give you time to acclimatise to the story, they simply expect you to know the context.
And so if you walked into this movie without having watched Doctor Strange, every Avengers movie that Wanda has been in, WandaVision, What If and Spiderman No Way Home at the very least, this movie will make absolutely no sense. Without context, this movie is trash. With context, this movie is amazing and the culmination of numerous character arcs.
Without watching WandaVision, you won’t be able to understand Wanda’s motivations. Without watching Infinity War and Endgame, you won’t understand why Wanda calls Strange a hypocrite. You won’t feel empathy for them in the same way I did, having watched everything related to their backstory. And What If will give you valuable context on the multiverse.
This movie will not slow down to accommodate anyone. Parts of it are confusing even for fans who have watched everything related to the MCU multiple times. If you are a relatively new fan, this is not the movie for you. In fact, most of phase 4 isn’t for you (except for maybe Eternals, Shang Chi and Ms Marvel).
Marvel Fans Need To Manage Expectations
Tumblr media
A major problem with the MCU fandom is our obsession with theorising. So many of us are so caught up in coming up with theories that we almost feel entitled to watching them be confirmed. We don’t stop to simply watch and enjoy a movie. Fan theories are great but they should never stop you from being able to enjoy a movie for what it is.
People were so caught up in their expectations of events that they were unable to enjoy the actual events on screen. I can almost guarantee that many more fans would have enjoyed this movie if they had spent less time developing and becoming irrationally excited over headcanons and predictions.
At the end of the day, we are not the writers of the MCU. We do not get a say on character or story direction. Even if in our heads, a certain story idea would be amazing, the MCU is not obligated to accommodate us. We as fans seriously need to work on our entitlement.
