Desperate to learn

Distractions today are like seagulls on the beach. You go prepared, but still get attacked. Today it is harder than ever to focus on things. Be it diminishing attention span, overstimulation or hyper-realistic expectations we all suffer.

So, I decided to alleviate my ADHD symptoms by finding extra engagement for my online lectures. I decided to log my classes like notes but on social media. Maybe it will be of use to others too. Here we go:

Obsession with math

I was afraid of mathematics and hated it during childhood. Never really got what those weird looking equations and symbols had to do with anything real.

Then came across books, videos and especially TED talks. This helped me connect with the magical side of mathematics and why it is more important to be in touch with them.

Today, I am absolutely obsessed with anything related to mathematics. But the truth is a little twisted. I am obsessed with this idea of knowing mathematics, a magical spell that would transform my life. It is basically romanticizing the idea of having something that you never had in your life before. If someone never had the means to live a good life, they will chase money. If life never let them have love, they would chase that validation.

I will be with math because, I find it fun not because now I can finally be good at it. Just like they wanted.

I have to let that child heal.

Since my journey to find the absolute truth and build myself upon that foundation, I have gone to quite a number of different islands.

This voyage of self critique to become worthy of a meaningful life, a life of courage, strength and love has taken me to the wilderness of spirituality, history, theology and political philosophy. But one thing about the land of mathematics and logic made it ever so supreme. Its' grasp on the universe, the ability to mold the world through science, the appeal to converse with god 🦸.

Wherever you were lost in the realm of arguing with yourself about the nature of existence math came as the final authority. This revelation in adulthood has made me forgo all the childhood trauma that every other adult then, dumped on me 😔.

Today, I am in a romantic relationship with math. I want to be with it, understand it. It is like a difficult girl friend who has daddy issues 😅. You have to be patient with it to feel that love.

This was the declaration of the beginnings of a journey that we hope will last long and may the sea lord bless us with the fortunes of truth.
