It looks like you nailed the assignment with you blog. Great job, great choice.

Tumblr media
 Marketing Blog
1.      Introduction: Introduce the organization and explain what they do. Why is social media critical to what they do? What industry are they in? What are the norms/standards for social media use in that industry? (Minimum of two paragraphs.)
For more than a century, L’Oréal has devoted itself solely to one business: beauty. It is a business rich in meaning, as it enables all individuals to express their personalities, gain self-confidence and open to others.  Beauty is a language.  L’Oreal is actively using social media to engage with customers on a mass scale. It is working with local and global influencers to create content for Facebook and Instagram.
The company is adopting a strategy to match the social media platform with its brands to create an effective social strategy to target the right audiences. For instance, it is experimenting with Snapchat for its Maybelline brand and exploring WeChat to target Chinese customers. An effective social media strategy ensures that L’Oréal can reach a wider audience.  At the same time, the company can customize its message by using the right channel for every audience segment. This ensures better engagement with consumers and can lead to higher conversions. (loreal.com)
2.      Social commerce strategy: Research and identify the social commerce strategies of your organization. How do they encourage and facilitate influence and impressions? Are there critical relationships with any groups or individuals? (Minimum of two paragraphs.)
L’Oréal is committed to sustainable, responsible and shared growth, especially through its “Sharing Beauty With All” program. These commitments are fully in line with the initiatives of the L'Oréal Corporate Foundation.  The L'Oréal Corporate Foundation is committed to supporting and empowering women worldwide. It helps them to pursue careers in the fields of beauty and science, through two specific programs: “For Women in Science” and “Beauty for a Better Life”.
Take our iconic For Women in Science program, which is channeling female creativity into every scientific discipline and working to establish real parity, bringing together a community of passionate, inspiring women who support each other. The addition of the For Girls in Science program means that female high school students are now also rallying under the banner of science thanks to the excellent work that our ambassadors are doing at the grass roots level.  Meanwhile, the Beauty for a Better Life program is about helping vulnerable groups feel better and do better. Through beauty, this initiative makes a pivotal contribution to rebuilding confidence and getting lives back on track.
  3.      Data: Report findings from online ratings and reviews, as well as content analysis and sentiment analysis using Facebook, Twitter, and a third platform used by the organization. Give specific examples for reporting your findings. (Minimum of five examples.)
A topline look at a few of L’Oreal’s key metrics between 2018-06-01 and 2018-06-30.  Facebook:  Total Fans = 37,943 During that time, fans gained = 904, Fans growth = 2.41%
Twitter:  Tweets = 59
Instagram: Average engagement = 147, Likes = 11,592
L’Oreal Paris – Tweets = 3,352, Following 212, Followers 23.7K
Tumblr – Following = 1,941; Followers 486K, Likes = 19.7K
Youtube – The post L’Oreal Enchanted Palette, Blushes, and Eyeliners has 22,711 views
L'Oreal has one of the largest social media presences of any brand around the world. As part of its social media strategy, L'Oreal maintains social media profiles for most countries where its products are sold and even individual pages for different products.
4.      Assessment and recommendation: Assess the overall social media marketing strategy of your organization and offer recommendations. (Minimum of two paragraphs.)
According to all my new-found insights, L’Oreal appears to have master the social media and the cosmetic industry with their well-planned strategic plans to maintain the competitive advantage over their competitors based on their figures as part of social media.  De Felice revealed that as part of this strategy the company has, in the past few weeks, added US brand NYX Cosmetics to its portfolio, which includes Yves Saint Laurent and Kiehls, to capitalize on its deep connection with the online audience.  “This brand was built on very close relationships and very close emotion with YouTubers and consumers. They generated over 2bn view which is impressive for brand that makes $100m dollars of sales.
According to De Felice, L’Oreal is undergoing a “major shift” in where it invests its marketing spend in an increasingly digital world, admitting that the change has been “a challenge” company-wide.  He also predicted that L’Oreal’s new makeup genius app, which uses facial mapping technology to allow consumers to ‘try on’ different products in real-time, will hit 10m downloads.

I chose to write about a non-profit organization in Oakland California called ALL OF US OR NONE.
All Of Us Or None is a project of Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, they are an grassroot org, started by formerly incarcerated folks in an effort to strengthen the voices of the men and women currently incarcerated and to restore the human and civil rights of those formerly incarcerated.
AOUON has a relevant and prevalent social media presence. They post the things they are working on, events that they will attend, events that they are giving, bills they propose, support, oppose.
The platform they use the most is photos and video to tell their stories. It seems to get the most attention by viewers and the most responses. They have a Friday Fourm where different staff members do a live stream to facebook talking about their recent activities.
They also use social media to show their followers that they are doing what is expected of them, like attending City Council meetings, holding protests, speaking to the state Senators, etc.
Their influence comes from their relationships with activist and advocates like Michele Alexander, Angela Davis, Assata Shukur, and political prisoners like Herman Bell.
The Executive Director Dorsey Nunn and Administrative Director Hamdyia Cook- Abdullah are very well known activist themselves, both formerly incarcerated for extensive periods of time.
I do not have facebook, however AOUON does have a presence on facebook with many followers. The ED, Mr Nunn  has a pretty impressive following. Their tweeter has about 900 followers to date.
My understanding is that they are revamping their website, I like that Idea, I think a better looking website will enhance the traffic on their page. If you type in mass incarceration it should lead you to their site, however, other organizations come up. I think their SEO/SMO needs to be addressed.
With a little work I think their site could get a lot of traffic, it take a savvy communications personnel to accomplish such a task.

Here’s the truth on Chicago violence. Those gang members killing innocents are evil and no social program will change that.  They should be locked away for decades.
I can not help but to believe that O’Reilly has no real clue as to the underlying issues that plague Chicago. To make a comment like the one above shows he has no understanding of what these communities are actually dealing with.
To call someone evil does not help, especially when you have no clue as to what they have endured to get them to a point of violence. It has been said that hurt people hurt people...that may to some extent answer why so much violence is happening. Instead of judging these folks how about trying to understand their journey. Try realizing that technically we are all animals, the people who commit these crimes are not savages they are simply folks who did not get the help they needed in time. Who is to say it is too late, who is he to say it is too late...O’Reilly has 7.7k followers, he obviously has an audience and influence, he knows as much and he say things to stir people up...he is nothing but a shock jock.  A very savvy one I hate to admit, he knows his audience and he knows who opposes him he target them both in his commentary.

Fake News
Many wonder if fake news had any influence on the 2016 election, I absolutely think it did. Digital news is second to TV news and I believe that is the key. Many people do not have time to watch tv so they turn to the website and the fake news is there. People may not believe it all the time, however it can be something to talk about at the water cooler.
Fake news is far reaching, I believe both candidates benefited at times.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/04/03/a-new-study-suggests-fake-news-might-have-won-donald-trump-the-2016-election/?utm_term=.008cf62c443d
Tumblr media
The above post claims Clinton was in poor health, The Pope endorsed Trumph, and Clinton approved weapon sales to terrorist.
Tumblr media
I think some people actually believe the crazy news stories, I believe because social media is second to tv news people watch it widely. Social media is second to tv which is one of the 5 take aways of social media.
Fake news may not fool all the people but it surely will fool some people.

I think the mannequin challenge is pretty cool. I had never heard of it until your blog. Cool pic, nice change of pace. Thanks for sharing.
The Mannequin Challenge
The mannequin challenge was first when viral in November of 2016. The mannequin challenge is a trend where people remain frozen in action just like mannequins while the camera films them. The video was first created using the song “Black Beatles, “by Rae Sremmurd. This video became viral so fast from people using the hashtag #MannequinChallenge on popular social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. These mannequin challenge videos even started to become popular on YouTube. This video phenomenon was said to be started by a groupof students from White High School in Jacksonville, FL. After doing some research I found out that this video was originally created to as a project at school. Since then the video had inspired works by other groups of people, especially profession athletes and sports team who have all posted their own version of the mannequin challenge.
News outlets said that the video could be compared to the videos to bullet time scenes from science fiction films such as The Matrix, X-Men, Lost in Space and Buffalo ’66. Also, the nature of how fast the video has spread and how its spreading has been compared to other challenges like the Makankosappo and the Harlem Shake. Others have even gone as far as to compare the challenge to the HBO TV series, Westworld, which came out around the same time the mannequin challenge did. In the HBO series robotic hosts can be stopped in their tracks similar to being frozen in mid action in the mannequin challenge.
As said above, many different sports teams and athletes have participated in the mannequin challenge. A couple of the teams consist of the Pittsburg Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Manchester United, and The Belgium National Football Team. Not only did different sports teams participate in the challenge many other celebrities did too. Some of these consist of Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, Britney Spears, Garth Brooks and Beyoncé. And it doesn’t end there. Even the former first lady, Michelle Obama, even took a jab at it when she froze for the challenge with LeBron James and the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers during their visit to the White House to be honored for their NBA Championship victory.
The mannequin challenge has even been used to promote activism. On November 10, 2016, film makes Simone Shepard, Kevalena Everett and Todd Anthony made a series of videos that re-creates scenes (using the mannequin challenge technique) related to the Black Lives Matter movement. This was used as a promotional teaser for their first feature film called Black in Blue.
Now, the big question, how did this video become so big? I think this challenge became so big mainly because it was the next best thing. Just like any online challenge that occurs, it becomes popular. And once the challenge becomes popular, more and more people start to do it because they want to put their own spin on their take each better than the last. And I think that’s the main reason why this particular challenge blew up so fast. Each video (mostly) contained the same song, but you could dictate what you did as your frozen (mannequin) scene to go along with the music. There was everything from video done in classrooms and offices to restaurants and even the oval office. This was definitely one of the biggest fads of our time so far.

Looks like we had the same thoughts for the assignment. I think you did a great job, you blog is very detailed and informative. It is a good read.
Lip Challenge
Hi Rosie:  Thank you for your challenge.  This one has been one for the books.  It’s amazing how a trend can move so quickly through the internet and other forms of social media when a celebrity is behind it.  All of these challenges are dangerous.  Unfortunately when it is posted, the publishers don’t give all the details or information about pending dangers.  Of course, if I was able to plump my lips without spending hundreds of dollars, I certainly would but at what price.  Thank you for that.
Viral challenges are challenges that go around the web and people do them and then post them to get others to join in. They start with a single person doing something and the countiue by others following. Over the years I have seen many challenges go around some that are for a good cause and some that are not very smart. Some of the recent challenges that I can think of are the running man challenge, the lip sync challenge, the cinnamon challenge, tide pod challenge, and the ice bucket challenge. The challenge that I am choosing to talk about is the Kylie Jenner Challenge. I feel this challenge went around for a long period of time for all the wrong reasons. Let me start by exampling what they challenge is. The Kylie Jenner Challenge is where you  insert your  lips into a shot glass, small jar or bottle, then suck out the air, creating a vacuum. Then you hope that you will end up with pouty lips like the reality TV star. People started doing this because they wanted to have big lips just like Kylie Jenner they wanted to look better and they thought this was the way to do it. The challenge started in february of 2015 when Kylie said that she was going to change the way she looked and not by just doing her makeup. Kylie encouraged teens to do this challenge and change the way they look and it started going downhill but people continued to do it. Even though Kylie did not make her lips look the way they do by using a shot class and sucking all the air out of it she let the world try anyways. Then it turned into a joke and people where doing it to make fun of others but then they were hurting themselves in the process. People wanted to make themselves look better because someone famous at big lips and they were getting talked about  all the time. It was mostly teens who where doing this challenges and they were destroying their lips. They were popping blood vessels, giving themselves bruises and cuts that were not needed just to have bigger lips. They did not care because they wanted to look better. Famous people get this image put on them and that they look so good and that everyone should look that way. Then teenagers get this in their head and will do anything to change the way that they look. As I was researching about this challenge I could not find one good outcome because everyone was bruised and bleeding. Even after people posted about what had happened to them during the Kylie Jenner challenge others when out and still tried it because they wanted to see it they could do better and get those plump looking lips. Then finally in April of 2015 Blac Chyna another who is model ended the challenge as being the winner. She found big fake lips that people could wear without having to hurt themselves. She posted it on instagram and people were all about it calling her the winner. Not every challenge is like the Kylie Jenner challenge where it is a bad outcome, some Viral challenges are good and go around for good reason just like the ALS ice bucket challenge. But this challenge was one that should not have been started because it ended up hurting people and making them look worse in the end. I feel these viral challenges are a fun thing when people are having fun or when they are raising awareness for something, but once they start to put people in harm’s way they need to start or they should just never be started. I would personally like to see more challenges going around like the Ice bucket challenge that are raising awareness for something. This way people can have a little fun and some competition but for a good reason.
I have attached some photos and links to show how bad the Kylie Jenner Challenge went. I could not find a good outcome from this challenge beside the one of the fake lips by Blac Chyna. That was the only positive that I was able to find out of the Viral Challenge then went on for about four months. Four months of people hurting themselves to get better looking lips. The next time you go to do a challenge make sure it is one that is for a cause, for fun, and not going to hurt you. Be smart about which challenges you are going to join and post on social media because many people got injured over one challenge because one star posted about how she was changing the way she looked.

The Kylie Jenner  lip challenge went viral in 2015. Many of Kylie’s followers were hoping to emulate the reality stars full lips. Teen and tweens would stick their lips in a bottle or glass and then suck in, the strong suction often resulted in swollen, bruised and puffy lips. Many followers lips were damaged severely. Doctors warned the public about the dangers of scarring and disfigurement. Some people were left with permanent disfigurement.
https://twitter.com/vaughn_sadie/status/1023264560860618752
Above is a link showing some of the damages the lip challenge has had.
Tumblr media
https://youtu.be/8_89glrHe0k
The link above shows a video from Inside Edition regarding the craze that is happening with this lip challenge. Many do not take it seriously, but it is in fact harmful. Many think it is funny, they do not recognize the real dangers
Here is a quote from a Kylie follower “Lol remember when everyone bruised their lips doing the kylie jenner lip challenge to entertain people on social media?0 replies1 retweet7 likes”
The challenge has died down, however not before the damage was done. Kylie Jenner’s life continues to thrive, she is as famous as ever, not once have I heard anything from her showing concern for these followers of hers that are permanently disfigured.
No doubt she has the money to enhance her looks, her lips, but her followers do not. So they are left with costly shortcuts and there seems to be no remorse, no sense of accountability, no sensitivity from Kylie Jenner.
This is yet another example of the dangers of social media. There are so many crazy challenges out there on social media and teens and tweens will do them just to be on social media. They are not thinking about long term effects, they often do not realize what they are until it is too late for them or someone else.
I think people who pose challenges should be more mindful of the consequences, people lives and health are at stake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These photos, videos, quotes and links should be enough to deter any sensible person from partaking in harmful challenges

For My SEO/SMO project I chose Nike. When I typed in basketball shoe, Nike was the first to pop up which shows great SEO ranking and their site had various drop down buttons, was also linked to facebook, instagram, and twitter which is a great social media/marketing optimization (SMO).
The site consists of attention grabbing content such as photos of all star professional athletes wearing their products and shoes. This type of endorsement gives their product credibility. You can also get hypnotized looking around the site at other fantastic products.
Nike execs no doubt know this game, they are the first company to pop up when you simply type in basketball shoes which increases the traffic to their site and once on their site, they have various eye catching photos that grab your attention and keep you occupied with choice after choice, tab after tab, drop down button after drop down button.

Social Media and Advertising
Carguru is an excellent example of how social media advertising is catchy, distracting, fast, to the point. This clip wastes no time getting to the point. Its said that consumers read or listen for 5 second before they lose interest or read and listen further. This add is 6 second long, just enough time to get your attention, make its point, and move on. It left me wanting to know more, so it not doubt worked and did exactly what it was designed to do and that is create customers. The add was flashy, interesting ,attention grabbing, great sound effects, great point, so its was on point totally.

Social Media Distractions
I’m in the market for a pre-owned car, that’s what they call them now. It does ring to my ears better than just saying used car. So I went on carguru and they have a lots of deals, lots of variety, in just about any location. Now that I have searched carguru, anytime I am online adds pop up showing the types of cars I searched for, and I find myself distracted checking out the pop ups.

I was drawn to paddle boarding because adds made it look so hip, cool, and the thing to do. Adds showed young and older people paddle boarding, they showed, it as a family activity, an activity couples can do together, father and son, mother and daughter. So it felt right, it felt like something anyone could do, at virtually any age. It appeared to be fun, entertaining, not very expensive. It got my attention and now I love doing it.
