Caitlyn knows grief.

The lingering twist of guilt in her stomach the minute that she felt an ounce of goodness in her body. Decaying rot in her chest that came from the turbulent feeling of going back and forth from numb to angry. Acid in the back of her throat, reality induced nausea. Self-loathing and self-sabotaging.

She tries to not feel grief over her relationship with Vi. She tries not to think about what they could have been if not for her wicked path of salvation. If she hadn’t pushed her away—physically and emotionally.

Cait can see that Vi is healing. She is not the girl that she slept with for the first time—emaciated and frantic. Vi works and sleeps. She rebuilds Zaun with a passion made her a perfect fit for the firelights. She uses her grief to help others. Protect others. Cait loves to watch her be in her own skin and only flinches when she sees the streak of blue in her hair.

To love Vi isn’t a chore, never a chore, but Cait wishes that she could have been with a Vi who had never been hit by her rifle or brought to her knees by her words. Vi’s family—people—are still furious to see her in Zaun. Vi tells her to keep trying l, to keep showing, but she can’t help but remember the way Sevika laughed when she mentioned trying to heal that relationship.

It’s Sevika who tells Cait about the pit fights. But it’s Ekko who tells her about Vi’s chronic pain—the irreversible damage to her body. (Cait hopelessly worried that everyone will know Vi better than her).

It’s selfish, Cait thinks, to feel this way. To feel anxious in her girlfriend’s presence. To want to go inside Vi’s head and remove the memories of Cait’s fury.

But she tries to be good. Tries to be better. Tries to breathe and eat and sleep and laugh and love this Vi, her Vi, to the best of her ability.

But she will always continue to bury her head into Vi’s neck and wonder if it’s all enough.

there is no trauma connected to the kiramman mansion for vi, it's the first place she felt safe once she was out of stillwater, that's why it's such a weird take to me, not because i think vi is nothing more than caitlyns girlfriend.

we probs have a different definition but that’s okay. the only person who welcomed in that home was cait. it was a place where she was judged by cait’s family, the place where cait was losing herself in grief and rage for vi’s own sister, where vi had to choose between the two, where vi woke up after losing her family again (jinx and isha), and the fact that it represents piltover, wealth, power, and the oppression over zaunites. maybe it’s just me who wouldn’t want to live there after all of that. sure she felt more safe with cait than at stillwater but I think that has to do with more with cait than a mansion in piltover. I also think she’d feel really safe with the firelights but whatever. it’s okay fr we can disagree. it’s chill if you hate my takes just don’t read my shit I guess???

Hey hi hello. i ship caitvi. a lot actually. I write a lot of caitvi fics. I love them and they do deserve to end up together. but not at the expense of taking vi away from her home or her only family left, ekko. I never said they wouldn’t live together, just not at the kiramman mansion. not where there’s all so much pain and trauma there. I see a vi that goes beyond being cait’s partner. someone who has relationships with other people outside of her. who wants to rebuild zaun because she wants to, because she loved her family and sees a legacy in them and their work. it’s cool that you don’t see vi and sevika ever getting alone or having a relationship. but honestly I think it’s a weird take to think that vi can only be happy living in the kiramman mansion with cait. vi is more than an extension of cait. Idk.

after season 2, vi does not spend a single night at the kiramman mansion ever ever again. she belongs in zaun. rebuilding zaun. helping ekko and sevika and her people. she is clear about that with cait.

in my head, after season 2, it is canon that vi returns to zaun to help take care of orphans with the firelights and after a while, takes in a few of them. vi begins an unlikely alliance with sevika, who never lets her forget about having been an enforcer while also being her supporter while she helps rebuild zaun. the two of them work a lot together and sevika becomes one of the few people vi trusts with her kids after learning about her relationship with jinx and isha. vi encourages her kids to call sevika “auntie sev” just to annoy her. (sevika secretly loves it)
