Man people have really used 'troll' as a catch-all for anything supernatural or strange.
Tumblr media
From Kalkar's 1800s dictionary: Anchortroll, a big fish which from behind looks like an anchor. [According to Matthias Moth (1600s dictionary writer) and Ivar Aasen (1800s linguist)] probably anchortroll means squid.
People were literally like "hmmm this thing is weird as fuck. Call it a troll."

Basilosaurus being my #1 top favorite prehistoric animal, as i love this serpentine mosasaur-like whale. When I was young I found it so unique as it is an animal that I once thought was a reptile due to its name and appearance, until I began to read about it and saw it was the ancestors to all living whales.

It seems that Lake Champlain has two famous cryptids. A Horned Sea Serpent called the Gitaskog & the Lake Monster called Champ. And since the lake has rivers like River Richelieu & the Trois-Riviéres that connect to the Great lakes and to the Atlantic as it is why no one was able to find these monsters. However, even though these are not plesiosaurs, basilosaurs or any prehistoric animal, but just sort of a specific species of large lizard-like serpents that swims to and fro. But who knows. I find it very interesting. Maybe someday we'll find these amphibious serpents. 🐉 🐍

need to do something other than doomscrolling, and I have a large backlog of leftover sticker club piling up again, so the price has been slashed to match my regular sticker pricing, and all profit will go to a local trans group: www.stlmetrotrans.org
you can get them here, not sure how long I'll keep the sale up or if I'll just keep it going until they sell out
