reading sfth fanfic is so fun as someone fluent in german because so many writers will incorporate german words and phrases into their works (especially sorry about my nan and all the war plays) and it's so interesting to see which ones seem to be tricky to get right and how much work and love people put into their writing <33

the most gut-wrenching detail in sorry about my nan will always be that jim is wearing an engagement ring throughout it all. same goes for the stupid stag do shirt jamie probably has on-

imagine jim gripping his sword and the ring clicking against the handle, clicking against the microphone he's being forced to speak into. jim nervously twisting it as he sits with the vision of his fiancée. blood pooling and drying around the ring. the way it gleams in the spotlight as he swings at jamie.

imagine jamie having to beg his best friend not to kill him while wearing a shirt that says #teamjim. imagine him being the only one left in clothes meant for a group because all the others left. imagine him being forced to be honest about their friendship, forced to confess about julie, while wearing a shirt with some tasteless joke on it. by the end, it's so drenched with blood that you can barely read the stag do pun.

okay wait what if mark (cdiyw) loves DIY because of his home situation. he had to learn to take care of everything himself after losing his mom and essentially having no active parental figure to help him out. like yes!! i get super excited about the queer relationships too, and amanda is an interesting character, but

a) her relationship with clarissa would have been just as "messy" as clarissa and mark

b) the events of the play wouldn't have been magically solved by a wlw couple?

-> tbh it kinda gives "two women together are automatically more pure and cute and fluffy than a woman and a man" which rings some alarm bells (i know 98% of y'all don't think that, i'm just sharing thoughts)

c) cdiyw is not as much a happy love story as it is about people struggling and learning and having to grow

d) the implication that clarissa's problems would have been solved by being together with someone who doesn't have to learn how to love her in a way that doesn't trigger either of them is kinda strange - i think tom said it really well in his little "you can't just pretend you're not in love just because it's getting complicated and vulnerable" speech

f) it just honestly has the underlying feeling of "gay > straight" in the 14y/o wattpad way i'm sorryyyyy

bored and looking to start shit. anyways who wants to talk about the way that the fandom's perception of mark cdiyw is based in bioessentialism/terf ideology, ableism, black and white morality, and the belief that "straight" relationships are inherently worse than non-straight ones

reminder that mark didn't even like his mother. we learn that she was just like his father- so imagine having two parents who you dislike and then suddenly one of them is dead and it's your fault because you should have known daddy was drunk but you couldn't stop him and what if you wanted her to die, you told your friends you hated her, didn't you? so all you can do is go to church and confess and live with your dad until you have your own family and try to keep him from drinking again and again and again
