Video/sound installation
The room is located on the first floor. It is rather an isolated space from other areas of the building. Depending on where the viewer is coming from, one needs to go up the stairs or down the stairs to reach the room. There is a narrow corridor that reaches the entry of the room. The area is darkened. From a distance, one can see a thin and subtle ray of blue light coming out from the gap between the door and the room. There is also a loud roaring sound from within. At first it sounds like wind - it is edited sound of Om at low pitch. The sound piece hovers between the threshold of hearing range, yet since it is played from a powerful subwoofer, one can feel vibration of air. Close up the room, one finds a door which is chained with two padlocks. The door, which is prehung to doorframe,  is installed in such a way that the inside of the door faces the outside of the room. Outside of the room becomes the inside. Initially I thought of the space within as the space of Plato’s cave where we are faced with what is immediately before us – as it gives itself. In fact, I believe, as with Plato and Martin Heidegger that such a space is the world as we know it. Hence I reverted the idea so that our everyday world becomes the inside of the Cave...I wanted to go towards the exit of the cave. I do not wish to make a claim about what is outside or behind the door – as we only know the world as far as it appears to us.
