discourse about redemption arcs would vastly improve if instead of always asking “is this character redeemable?” people started asking “what message would it send to redeem this character?” and “would it be logical or satisfying on a narrative level to redeem this character?”

Arcane is beautiful aesthetic wise and has really interesting characters but if you think about the social commentary for more than three seconds and any of the themes especially surrounding revolution and sovereignty, it becomes not so good, but as my partner likes to say it’s always going to be the natural of American made media

Arcane is a fun show but when you think for more than 5 seconds about the themes of oppression it’s not good but again the show itself is fun!!

something that i think gets a little overlooked when talking about buddie and the shooting is how it establishes them and chris as a family in the most insane way. because as much as i love “you act like you’re expendable but you’re wrong”, technically buck was right in what he said.

like, if you take the situation at face value, yeah, it would have been objectively better for chris if his dad’s platonic bff who he’s not related to was shot instead of his dad (and only living parent). like as much as they love each other, that in theory, it’s not insane for buck to say that it would have been better for chris if he had been shot. he’d be sad, but he wouldn’t have lost his dad.

the fact that both the show and eddie make a point of saying “actually, no, the loss of either of us” is unhinged. like?? buck says “i’m not christopher’s dad” and eddie (and the show??) explicitly goes “incorrect!”

huge fan of the phenomenon of people microdosing on 911 though tumblr and having the general attitude of “Oh, there tumblr goes again. Shipping Two Guys Who Are Standing Next To Each Other Syndrome. Got the gay goggles on.” and then they actually watch the show and are horrified to find that Buck and Eddie are just Like That
