Wendy knew she was probably a little too open for her own good. There were plenty of bad people in the world who would take advantage of her kindness that moment they could but she wanted to actually see the best in people rather than the worst.

Hence her dilemma about how much of a sucker she was for the people she loved and people she just started to know, she might give away too much.

Upon hearing Hurley, she leaned in her chair, pondering what he said.

“ I don’t think I’m really high-maintenance though. I latch onto people I just met, plus diamond jewellery and roses have never really been my thing, I just don’t think it’s necessary to do that all the time.”

This isn’t really Hurley’s area of expertise, not that you’ll ever hear him admit to that, and never has a lack of knowledge posed a problem for him in the past. If someone wants something from him, even just an answer, he’ll do what he can to provide for them. For a price. Obviously. Nothing worth having comes cheap. And some customers carry a bigger price-tag than others, regardless of whatever resources they’re in need of.

His eyes roam over her face with vested interest. Is there anything tastier than fresh meat? They earn the squib’s undivided attention without even having to try. It’s the unknown that’s so alluring; for all he knows, this girl could be sucking on a silver spoon! He’d never forgive himself if he missed out on the chance to make some serious bank, all because it was, oh, how did some people refer to his occasional manipulation of the naive and unworldly? Impolite?

"Sounds like your heart’s too roomy for its own good. Sounds high maintenance, too. Sounds like you require the famously reliable services of someone who can get you red roses and jewellery whenever you need them, not to mention at a most affordable price.” An inviting smile hatches at the corner of his mouth. “And I might just know a guy who could help you out there."
