Metacosm Chronicles State of Affairs 5/25

Sigh. Welp.

The good news is I put 10k+ on the Project:Freqs visual novel script this month. It's now over 50k (iirc around 56k). Which is awesome, and I'm quite pleased at how these last few scenes have gone. I'm aiming for/probably going to get to about 200k easily, since we're this far in and I have so much more story to tell.

The bad news is the entire main book series.

I won't get into too many details since things aren't super finalized at the moment but we ran into a huge snag with Book3 (which was, gods willing, supposed to be published this year) that essentially ground the entire process to a halt for a couple months.

We finally worked out most of the tangles and the bottom line seems to be that we'll need to completely tear Book3 apart.

We shifted some plans around and decided to to an Everdark audiobook in Book3's place, but even that is causing its own drama. 🫠

So now although my brain is hyperfixated on my stinky boys I have to instead work on this other thing with a deadline and pressure and ugh.

Thankfully I am very doubtful this will affect TFB in any way, and I can see the merit in changing our methods now while we only have two loosely-connected books out and not a whole bunch. But change is always hard, and I'm both indecisive and have low self-confidence, so this'll be fun lol.

[ADO] nods once in farewell, then brusquely leaves. Firbolg – and I am certain he knows my intent this time – finally peels himself from his protective spot as a social turret over my shoulder and settles into the seat [ADO] just vacated. A slight smile tugs at the corners of his mouth-bar.

F: “Well. Go ahead.”

The rebellious urge to not ask now that I’ve been specifically challenged to do so rises in me, but I push it aside. I really do need to know.

Y: “I thought you were just coming to be my counsel.”

F: “Hm. I don’t recall specifying. (genuinely) Would you rather I didn’t?”

Y: “... it’s not that. I just don’t want to get in the way of your research.”

Peter Morwood

I am so sorry to have to tell you all about this. None of you, I suspect, will ever have any idea how sorry.

I am in utter shock and terrible pain to have to inform everyone that our friend, my dear husband and creative partner of nearly forty years, Peter Morwood, passed away suddenly early this morning after a brief illness that as late as yesterday (when his doctor saw him) had seemed to be on the mend.

I'm not in any position to say much more about this situation now, as you'll understand my current mental state is not up to the task. (I keep expecting to wake up from a bad dream, but it shows no sign of breaking.) I will let people know more about this in coming days.

There will be a postmortem shortly to determine the exact cause of his death. I'll share what details of this are appropriate as they become clear.

Meanwhile in the short term I'm very much going to need assistance with the expenses that in the days that follow will inevitably surround what's happened. For those people who want to assist, please feel free to use the Ko-Fi account here, and simply tag the associated messages, etc, "P expenses". ETA: Please choose the Stripe payment option at Ko-Fi rather than PayPal, as PP seems to be having some kind of obscure difficulties at the moment. I have disconnected PayPal until this is resolved.

My love will wait for me, I know, however long it takes. He's never minded waiting. (the saddest smile) My job now is to make sure he's not forgotten while I go on.

Meanwhile, can I just say to all of of you: I thank you all ahead of time for all the support and fondness for Peter that I know so many of you will express. He'd blush over it, I know. (He always did.) Please forgive me for being unable to do much in the way of answering messages, just now, in the wake of having to get to grips with this sudden and awful change in my world.

But also let me say, so urgently: Hug your loved ones now, while you can. Eventually a day will come when, expected or not, your opportunities end.

Painting wip (and its initial sketch) of my character Yuri trying all the new techniques and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet

I managed to finally pull myself out of the protracted existential crisis that ate up the first half of March.

Ngl I did have the terrified thought -- multiple times, but quickly dismissed -- that I'd never come out of it, since it lasted so long and was so severe. As I said in my last post about this, I'm constantly afraid my EDS will take this from me too, like it's taken everything else.

Somehow, I managed to write over 11k this last week split between Project:Freqs and a fanfic I will not disclose anything about lol.

I'm gearing up to tackle Book3 very soon -- early April, probably. I need to remind my betas that if they're going to try to get through it they should do so soon. It's gonna take us ... a lot of effort to fix it. But it's not unfixable.

I did get through the hardest part of the planning, though. There was briefly a discussion between me and A about trashing it entirely, and we eventually decided not to. Honestly, a good chunk of my crisis was centered around mulling over that question. Now that it has an answer, I feel much lighter.

I have done 0 drawing recently and I really really want to so hopefully the writing hyperfixation will let me be soon and I can get some art done.
