someone please take me on bookstore dates, and talk with me about books, and our futures and aspirations, and then at the end we exchange our favorite books with each other, and drive home listening to music.

I feel hollow today.
Not depressed. Not anxious. Not happy.
Just hollow.

If someone is rude or disrespectful towards you, politely excuse yourself and walk away. It sends a clear message to the other person - that what they’ve said or done is unacceptable, and you won’t tolerate it.

One of the best feelings in the world is knowing that your presence and absence both mean something to someone.

In middle school, I’d find this quiet kid named David W. who absolutely never spoke a word and never showed emotion. He would wear all black and it would contrast his pale face.
I would sit next to him and start talking. I was a thin nerdy but pretty cool black girl at the time. When I first started talking to him, he would turn and look a little annoyed. I would come back daily and just continue talking and eventually he would start blushing.
Then after a while, I would ask him questions and he would nod and say one word answers. Then later, I would tease him and get his full blown smile. And his smile was perfect.
Time passed.
I moved away to a different state for college and was working with a nonprofit organization. There was this older woman that called and said she had a grandson that needed prayer because he was in a horrible car accident. She said he always had a troubled childhood. I looked at her city and address on file. Her last name was the same. I asked if her grandson went to my old high school. She said yes.
I told her that I met him and I was his friend. I sent her some items from our nonprofit to give to him and sent her some free stuff. He doesn’t have a Facebook and I can’t find him anywhere. But I just want him to know he made an impact on me. He was quiet and didn’t say anything but I knew exactly how he felt because I’ve been there too.
Life went on and I’ve been through a lot but I still think about him from time to time.
You may be quiet, think no one cares, but someone is paying attention and wishes they could know you more. Someone is looking back in time like I remember that quiet kid. I wonder what they are doing now.
