you can read chapter 4 here :)
“I think we should find a place to settle down for the night.” Calum pipes up, breaking the silence between the two of them. They’ve been walking for a while, Calum leading the way and Davina following behind him.
“Yeah, I’m getting sleepy.” Davina says, stifling a yawn.
“There’s a place we can stay just on the edge of town, we can head there and hopefully get some rest.”
“Calum I don’t have any money.”
“It’s okay, I can pay for you.” Calum responds, smiling at the girl. “I don’t mind.”
“Thank you.” Davina whispers.
As the two of them get closer and closer to the inn, the more tired each of them become. Davina follows Calum inside as he gets rooms for each of them.
“Sir, I only have one room available.” The inn keeper says.
Davina and Calum look at one another. “That’s fine. There’s two beds, right?”
The innkeeper looks down at his books and shakes his head. “No, just a room with one bed. There is a chair in there, though.”
Calum sighs and looks at the girl who stands next to him. “Are you alright with that? I can take the chair or the floor.”
“If it’s the only room, then we don’t have a choice, do we?” Davina smiles. “We’ll take it.”
“Here’s the key, we’ll see you tomorrow.” The innkeeper states, handing Calum the key.
The two friends walk down the hall and Calum unlocks the door and turns on the light. The light illuminates the room, it’s quite small but there’s a bed directly in front of the door, a bathroom to the right, and a sitting area on the left side of the bed.
Davina sighs and sits down on the edge of the bed, looking around the room. Her tower was certainly bigger, she hasn’t been in a room this small in who knows how long. Calum looks around before looking at Davina.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Davina asks after she notices Calum had been staring at her for a few moments.
“How am I looking at you?” Calum asks, being distracted from his trance.
“Like you’re in love with me.” Davina smirks.
“Dav, I’ve known you how long? It takes longer to fall in love.” Calum retorts, moving towards the sitting area and taking off his shoes before sitting down.
“What? You don’t believe in love in first sight?” Davina raises an eyebrow. “I was absolutely positive you’d be in love with me by now.”
“Absolutely. I’m in love with you. Sure.” Calum’s tone is sarcastic.
“Ha, ha, very funny. You should be a comedian.”
Calum smiles and shakes his head, resting his eyes when he sighs.
“Calum, get up. You’re not sleeping on the chair.” Davina says, standing up from the bed.
“Davina, I swear it’s fine. You can have the bed.”
“Calum, that’s nonsense. You’re paying, therefore you should have the bed.”
“What kind of logic is that?” Calum says, his eyes shooting open as he stands up from the chair.
“It’s my logic. I can take the chair.” Davina smiles, taking Calum’s spot from the chair and sitting down immediately.
“Davina, get up.” Calum says.
“Why?”
“A princess shouldn’t sleep on the chair!” Calum exclaims, eyes wide and cheeks red.
Davina’s jaw drops as she looks at the boy in front of her. “I’m not… I didn’t mean…”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to snap.” Calum says, shaking his head.
“Why don’t we both sleep in the bed? It’s big enough for the both of us and* we both seem really tired.” Davina suggests, looking into Calum’s eyes.
“Yeah, that’d work.”
“Okay.”
Calum begins stripping his shirt and pants off, crawling into bed in just his underwear.
“What are you doing?!” Davina shrieks, turning around to see Calum.
“What, you mean to tell me you’re going to sleep in your day dress?” Calum laughs, looking Davina up and down.
“I… was going to…” Davina mumbles. “Should I not?”
“That is one hundred percent up to you.” Calum says, crawling into bed and underneath the covers.
“Turn around. Don’t look at me.” Davina states, turning her back to Calum and beginning to strip off her day dress to the slip underneath. She crawls into bed and gets under the covers before turning to Calum. “No funny business, thief.”
“Thief? Ouch. That hurts after all this time.” Calum says, turning to face Davina.
“I seem to think you like pain.” Davina laughs.
“Not physical. Just emotional torture.” Calum retorts, causing both of them to giggle.
Davina’s heart begins to race as the two of them lay in the bed and stare at one another, she’d never been this close to a boy, let alone a boy who’d been nearly naked in her presence. Her eyes don’t pull away from Calum’s, and she finds it harder and harder not to touch him.
“What are you thinking about, Dav?” Calum asks, breaking the silence. His voice is shaky.
“Not much,” Davina lies, “what are you thinking about?” She asks, heart racing in her chest and breath getting caught in her throat.
“Honestly,” Calum pauses, trying to find the right words to say, “I’m thinking about kissing you.”
Davina releases the breath she’s been holding and hides her face behind her hands. She brings them down and hopes she doesn’t regret what she’s about to say next. “Then what’s stopping you?”
Calum rolls over and brushes the hair out of Davina’s face, smiling before he lowers his head, meeting his lips with hers. It starts off soft and sweet, just like Calum thought it would be. He pulls away from her and opens his eyes, and Davina looks back at him, a blush creeping along her cheeks.
“I don’t remember what that felt like, we’d better do it again.” Davina giggles, pulling Calum back down towards her and kissing him once more.
They pull apart and the kiss leaves both of them breathless and desperate for more. Calum rests back on his side of the bed and Davina lays on her back, staring at the ceiling, contemplating what to say next.
Calum’s hand finds hers and they interlace their fingers, drifting off to sleep together.
 * * * *
The next morning, Calum and Davina wake up tangled in the sheets together. Calum is holding Davina in his arms as she sleeps with her head resting on his chest. The two of them breathing in sync with one another, unaware of anything other than each other.
The sun shines through the window of their room, causing Calum to open his eyes. He rubs them groggily and blinks a few times, adjusting to the sunlight. He glances down and sees Davina’s brown hair sprawled out next to him, her head resting on his chest and her arm resting over his abdomen.
“Davina, wake up. Today is the day.” Calum smiles, brushing his fingers through her hair.
Davina stirs a bit before opening her eyes. She immediately realizes where she is and sits up, looking at Calum.
“Oh dang.” Davina says. “Um close your eyes while I get dressed.”
Davina gets out of bed and Calum closes his eyes as she gets dressed. Calum gets dressed with his back towards her, and when the both of them are ready they turn to face another.
“Are you ready to go?” Calum asks.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.” Davina smiles.

firefly; 4 [ch]
a/n: hello my lovelies, here is the long awaited fourth chapter of firefly!!!! i hope you enjoy it :)
word count: 1.2k
rating: PG
Calum leads the way into the building with Davina trailing behind him. As soon as the both of them enter, all eyes turn to face them.
Davina hides behind Calum, putting her hands on his shoulders and resting her head on his back.
“Don’t be so scared, these people are nice.” Calum reassures her, grabbing her hands and removing them from his shoulders.
Davina looks around nervously at the people staring at her, but after a few moments they go back to whatever they were doing before the two of them arrived.
“Calum!” The bar keep calls, and Calum walks over to them.
Davina stands there, almost as if she’s scared to move.
“It’s been awhile!” The bar keep says as Calum approaches. “Stolen anything good, recently?”
“Oh, most definitely. I’ve got…” Calum looks around and sees Davina standing there. “Actually, I’d tell you, but I can’t.”
Davina finally approaches Calum at the bar, and the bar keep raises an eyebrow as she stands next to him.
“You look familiar.” The bar keep says. “Strangely familiar.”
Davina smiles and shrugs her shoulders before crossing her arms and placing them on the bar top in front of her. “Maybe we’ve met in the village.”
“Sure, maybe.” The bar keep responds, before turning around to pour Calum his usual.
Calum smiles over at Davina, and Davina smiles back. It seems as everyone is suddenly staring at the two of them, despite the two not drawing attention to themselves.
“What is this place?” Davina asks, looking at the raven haired boy next to her.
“This place? They call it Hole In The Wall.” Calum responds.
“Why do they call it that?” Davina asks.
“Have you looked around? It’s a literal hole in the wall.” Calum tells her, sipping on a beer.
“I guess I haven’t been anywhere that’s considered one.” Davina smiles, looking around her. “It’s just nice to be out and about, you know?”
“Yeah, I bet.”
“Thank you, Calum. I don’t think I’d ever be brave enough to escape without your help.” Davina smiles at the man sitting next to her.
Calum looks down at the girl next to him and smiles. “I’m just glad you’re not bad company.”
“That’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
“Keep talking and I’ll say worse.” Calum jokes, causing Davina to giggle.
“Yeah, sure.”
The two of them mind their own business and Calum goes to talk to other patrons around the bar, greeting old friends and having catch up conversations with people Davina didn’t even know existed.
While she sits alone, Calum can’t help but keep glancing over at the Hidden Princess, making sure that she’s not in any danger or being put in harm’s way. Since finding out she’s the Hidden Princess of Rysling, he’s felt the need to protect her no matter what.
“Dav, why don’t you come over here.” Calum calls, looking over at her.
Davina turns around and looks at the man who’s sitting with other burly men behind her. She rises from her seat and approaches Calum and his company.
“Hello.” Davina smiles. She’s anxious, she hasn’t had this much human contact in years.
“Hey, love. Calum has told us a bunch about you.” One of the men says, causing Calum to smirk.
Davina shoots a glare at Calum and raises her eyebrows. “Shocking, considering there’s not much to say. We only met a few hours ago.”
“Hey, hey, hey, Dav. Calm down, it’s nothing bad. I just told them that you haven’t been out in a while and that you’re adjusting really well.”
“That’s none of their business, Calum.” Davina says, not breaking eye contact with them. “Frankly it’s none of yours either.”
“Dav, wait.”
“I’d like to leave now.” Davina says. She’s trying to hold back her tears.
Calum pulls her aside into a corner, just the two of them. “Davina, hey, what’s wrong?”
“I want to go home.” Davina wipes the tears from her eyes. “I don’t feel comfortable here.”
“Was it something I did?” Calum asks, feeling kind of upset at Davina’s sudden want to go back home.
“No, I just want to go home. It’s as simple as that.” Davina says. Her eyes meet Calum’s and he can sense that she’s just saying that because she’s scared.
“How about we just get out of here, yeah? Don’t you want to see the fireflies?”
“I can see the fireflies from my tower, Calum. Please just take me back.”
Calum sighs and goes to pay for his tab before he and Davina leave the tavern. The two of them begin their trek back to Davina’s tower silently.
“I’m sorry.” Calum blurts. The two of them stop walking and face each other.
“For what?”
“For taking you to the tavern. I didn’t think it would make you uncomfortable.”
“I appreciate your apology. I’m sorry.” Davina looks up at him. “Now that I think about it, I haven’t been this free in so long, and I have you to thank for that. As we get closer and closer to the tower, I’m torn between wanting to go back and wanting to run free.”
“Which feels stronger?” Calum asks. “Going back? Or running free?”
“Running free.” Davina sighs. “I can’t keep living my life in my parents' fear. What happened to my sister was a terrible, terrible, thing but if I live my life thinking that’s going to happen to me, there’s going to be no life for me to live.”
“Valid.” Calum says.
“So, if you still have some of that kindness in your heart, I’d really like it if you could take me to see the fireflies.” Davina smiles.
“There’s nothing I’d like more.”
 *
Queen Freya looks over at Captain Kit as he leads her to Davina’s tower.
“My Queen, if I may ask, what makes you want to visit Davina? You haven’t seen her in months.” Captain Kit asks.
Queen Freya rolls her eyes at the Captain. “Am I not allowed to visit my daughter? A tiara was stolen. Davina might know where it is.”
Queen Freya mounts her horse, looking down at the Captain.
“Your Highness, I did not mean to come off as rude. I was simply pointing out the obvious.”
Queen Freya looks down at Captain Kit and sighs. “I understand. But I miss my daughter.”
“Then why do you keep her locked away in a tower?”
Queen Freya rolls her eyes as she takes the horses reins and goes to her daughters’ tower. “I am not letting my Davina meet the same fate my Ayla did. I will do everything in my power to protect my baby.”
Captain Kit nods his head in response. “Yes, Your Highness.”
The Queen and Captain Kit both head towards Davina’s tower, passing through the foliage as they ride their horses. The tower comes into view and Queen Freya notices almost immediately that something is wrong.
“Davina!” She calls, bringing her horse to a halt and dismounting immediately. “Davina, honey, where are you?”
Queen Freya enters the door on the side of the tower and climbs up, waiting for her daughter to respond. She can tell something is wrong since her daughter is responding, and her mind begins to think the worst.
“Kit! Davina’s not here!” Queen Freya calls, trying to keep her voice contained. She isn’t going to let anyone see her cry.
Captain Kit immediately rushes up into the tower and begins tearing the tower apart. “I’m so sorry, I’ll send a search party immediately.”
