Every woman deserves to feel the love of a man like Atlas Corrigan, and every woman should be safe from men like Ryle Kincaid. The difference between men like Atlas and men like Ryle is that Atlas had a horrific upbringing that should have changed him, should have made him angry and bitter and jaded, but he didn't let it.
Ryle had a single traumatic thing happen to him, which was huge, but he let it define him and morph him into the man he became. Which was an abuser and someone who hid behind the mask of a successful neurosurgeon.
What is also clear to me is that DV has no economical barrier. It afflicts the wealthy and the not wealthy, weaving its ugly web with equal ferocity. Someone like Ryle is just as capable of inflicting DV as someone who is not in his position. And the person who we all assumed would have been the abuser (Atlas) because of his troubled past, is actually the one who ends up being a crucial lifeline to Lily and helps her realize that she has that support system if she finds the strength to leave her relationship.
It Ends With Us is a story of the patterns of domestic violence, but also in breaking generational trauma and surrounding yourself with your chosen family and group.

I’m not gonna talk about Blake lively because everyone is doing it and there’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said.
But I will talk about Justin Baldoni. Justin Baldoni is probably one of the only men in the movie making industry that has ever put women first. Not for his own personal gain but to empower women. To tell their stories and experiences.
He did a TED talk years ago that I’ll never forget when the Me Too movement was happening. Where he talks about how women and statistics say it’s not a matter of “if” women being assaulted whether it be sexually, emotionally, physically happens, it’s a matter of “when”. He is a man who knows that women simply existing in this world have to live with this fear of this type of reality. He spoke up and it’s always stuck with me.
Not only that but the projects he’s been involved in? That he’s directed ? Never were about HIM. Or what he can do, what fucking brand he has or any shit like that. His stories he told were about the people directly inspired by them.
Five feet apart - Claire Wineland- dedicated and inspired by her. Brought awareness for cystic fibrosis. Still gives and bring awareness to the organization that helps people and families with this disease.
Clouds- zach sobiech’s story of a kid with terminal cancer diagnosis of osteosarcoma., who wanted to make music. Met Justin years before the movie and changed Justin’s life.
The man is bringing awareness to these things AND TOXIC MALE MASCULINITY!?!? The man enough podcast? The book? Where he talks about not only his experiences but is bringing awareness for MEN
God bless this man. Everything he does and works on speaks for itself. He is a selfless man who is telling different stories in the most real way possible. Not Sugar coating a DV movie about it being rainbows and lollipops and sunshine and to get your florals and go see the movie like it’s the fucking notebook.
He wanted it to be as real as possible. To the point where he literally feels sick or disgusted with the character he played because of how he had to ACT. The man is a god send.
YOU CAN NEVER MAKE ME HATE JUSTIN BALDONI

The way that the cast (with the exception of Justin Baldoni) of It Ends With Us is handling the actual story is so disheartening and gross. It Ends With Us is the recountment of a domestic violence survivor, a story about her and her abuser. It’s not a “fun” “funny” “movie with hot boys and girls” story (Blake Lively’s actual words to describe the film), it’s a story about the nuances of DV, and the hope that you can end the generational trauma. Ryle IS Lily Bloom’s abuser and a perpetrator. He is NOT a male romantic interest in a romance novel, he is an abuser. Lily Bloom falling in love with Ryle and narrating it shows us how difficult it is to leave that type of relationship, how we ignore the red flags because of the feelings and complexities of it all. Like viewers and readers need to understand that.
STOP ROMANTICIZING THIS STORY PLEASE

Justin baldoni decided to adapt It Ends With Us because he thought that stories about domestic violence, and specifically escaping and life beyond domestic violence deserved to be platformed.
Instead of being supported, he’s been mean girl’d by the cast; that’s treating the film like its this cutesy rom com : and I think this rly encapsulates everything that’s wrong with the book, and the fanbase it’s amassed

I believe that 2024 is supposed to be the Year of Change according to the Chinese calendar, and boy has it ever been a year of change. I lost my grandmother, who was arguably a second mother to me, and through a series of circumstances lost my work mom due to abuse allegations which were proven to be valid. And I have grown and matured into my 30-year-old brain through better or worse.
I have learned that no matter how good it feels in the moment, gossip is never the way to go. Gossip affects real people who have real emotions and who are struggling with real things. It's just that sometimes my overexcited brain gets excited to let someone in on what I heard and even though I do not have bad intentions in the moment, it can quickly spiral out of control.
Especially in my profession as an educator, confidentiality is of the topmost importance to me and to my bosses. I have not broken it where it concerns the kids, but when it comes to other employees? I have been guilty of joining in with the crowd and even tolerated it by listening and nodding along.
That ends now.
If my words are not about myself, does not serve to lift another up, and is not helpful, than I will aim to be quiet and keep my mouth closed even if it makes me look weird or like I am not keeping with the crowd.
