Tips from Worm
Did you know: Worm is currently a student! Because Worm annotates textbooks all the time, here's some tips for making regular reading more enjoyable!
Tumblr media
Annotate your books for an extra bit of fun!
2. doodle, scribble, or whatever floats your boat (either while reading or in the margins if you're feeling brave)
3. Use fun markers, stickers, and glitter pens
use these to mark and point out interesting parts of a book, both to keep you focused on where you're at in the book, but also as a way to enjoy the act of reading!

Setting the mood for reading

One tip to truly immerse yourself in a book is to utilize a playlist of songs to listen to while you read!
Picking songs that match the vibe/mood of your book, or finding ones on spotify/apple music/etc. (trust Worm! there's tons out there!)
For example, here's one Worm made to set the mood of a romance novel!
1. Softly - Clairo
2. You're Here That's the Things - Beabadoobee
3. Fragile - Laufey
4. Kingston - Faye Webster
5. If You Want To - beabadoobee
6. Falling for U - Peachy! + Mxmtoon
7. Video Games - Lana Del Rey
8. Sweet Nothing - Taylor Swift
go forth and dig in the dirt for songs and playlists to enhance your reading experience! It doesn't hurt to try

Achieving Reading Goals
Tumblr media
Set a reasonable goal
Don't overestimate your abilities! Start small and build up as you continue. Whether your goal is to read one book a month or one book in 6 months, adjust the goal to suit your lifestyle!
Make a list
Making a list of everything and anything related to your reading goals can help you feel accomplished as you check things off! They don't have to be big things like completing a book, it could be read a chapter a week! Or maybe a list of books you've found and want to read at some point to keep yourself on track.
Invite friends
Lots of things are better when you include more people! Get together (whether in person or online) with some friends or others in the community to do a joint reading session, book club, or any other collaborative reading activities!
Block out time each day
Something as simple as setting aside 20 minutes wherever you have in your day to read is always good practice to continue learning to love reading! It's hard, especially as an adult, to find the time to incorporate reading, so any chance you feel there's a period in your daily schedule to read, try it out and see if it works for you!

Tips from Worm
Don't force it!
Tumblr media
Are you tired or losing interest in a book? STOP reading give yourself a break or find something else you enjoy reading/doing! Forcing yourself to read only builds resentment and frustration
putting the book down doesn't mean you've failed, you just need to take a step back and breathe, then evaluate either the book, your mental state, your physical state, or anything else that may be impeding your enjoyment!

The ghost haunting the house has been murdered, and until he can solve the mystery of how he died, he refuses to move on. Fox D’Mora is a medium, and though is also most-definitely a shameless fraud, he isn’t entirely without his uses—seeing as he’s actually the godson of Death. When Viola seeks out Fox to help her with her ghost-infested mansion, he becomes inextricably involved in a quest that neither he nor Vi expects (or wants).

Love on the Brain
Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project - a literal dream come true - Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward. Sure, Levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. But Levi made his feelings toward Bee very clear in grad school - archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away. But when her equipment starts to go missing and the staff ignore her, Bee could swear she sees Levi softening into an ally, backing her plays, seconding her ideas... devouring her with those eyes. The possibilities have all her neurons firing. But when it comes time to actually make a move and put her heart on the line, there's only one question that matters: What will Bee Königswasser do?

Tips from Worm
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finding the right book is the next step of learning to love reading!
tips to narrow down the best fitting book for you:
Read reviews
reading what others have said about a book can help you find the quality of writing and story you prefer! But remember that reviews are personal, so taking a chance on a low-rated book might lead you to a diamond in the rough!
2. Ask others for recommendations
Asking around your friends and librarians for their favorite books and genres may help you find what things you like and don't like, and it's always best to get multiple people involved for more perspectives!
3. Read the summary/Intro pages
Once you've found a book you may be interested in, be sure to check out the summary and the introductory pages to gauge your interest in the writing style and storyline!
4. Consider genre and length
knowing what specifics of a book you're looking for can also help narrow down your interests. It's also good to take into account how much time you can/want to spend dedicated to reading, and how long you're willing to stick with one book. If you're looking for something light and easy, potentially waiting on books with much longer word-counts will be beneficial!
5. Have fun, and find books based on your interests!
The best tip is to not force yourself to read something you're not entirely invested in! Reading as an adult can be quite the time commitment to some people, and that time shouldn't be spent on a book you're not enjoying reading. If it's not what you thought it would be, there's no harm in putting it down and finding another one!

Hi Worm! I've been meaning to read more sci-fi books lately, but I don't know where to get started. Do you have any tips?
Hi there! Worm has found that going to book communities (booklr, booktok, booktube, etc.) and searching for sci-fi books can give an idea of what books people gravitate towards and what books they don't recommend (for one reason or another). Worm also suggests either asking a librarian for books similar to your favorite sci-fi media or looking up "books similar to [favorite sci-fi media]" to try and find things within your interests in the genre!
(Worm's most recently read sci-fi series is the Bloodright Trilogy by Emily Skrutskie!)

Tips from Worm:
"Where should I go to find books?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before you can get started to fall in love with reading, you have to figure out where to get your books from!
Of course, you can always buy them outright, but books are expensive, especially if they're not one of your main interests!
2. the easiest and best place to get a wide selection of books at little to no cost is from your local library! Lots of libraries also partner with the Libby app to provide free audiobooks and e-books from their collections
Look up the process to get a library card at a location near you to get started on your journey!
3. There's also been an influx of little libraries made by people in your communities that offer books to anyone passing by!
4. obviously there are also morally gray options, in which case Worm urges you to support the authors as much as possible within your budget
