For years after the Kira case is over, Near ends up with constant nightmares and survivor's guilt.

Near occasionally takes out the finger puppet of Mello that he kept and stares at it silently. Other times, he quietly asks it why Mello couldn't have just joined him in the first place- because if he had, Near would have never let him die.

Not long after the Kira case was brought to a close, other shinigami tried to follow Ryuk’s lead, acquiring a second notebook to drop into the human world. One of these notebooks ended up in the hands of none other than Misa Amane. On the one year anniversary of the end of the Kira case, Nate River is found dead of a heart attack.

What if...?

If Light and L ever played 'Never Have I Ever' together, L would spend the entire game saying things such as "never have I ever been suspected for being a murderer," or "never have I ever had security cameras placed throughout my house," or "never have I ever been handcuffed to the world's greatest detective" with the sole intention of getting on Light's nerves.

After the events of the main story, we know the oneshot special reveals that another shinigami has dropped a death note in the human world.

What if, rather than the new Kira finding it, Near had found it?

What if despite knowing fully well how terrible it was and what had happened to Light, he used it, and eventually ended up becoming the next Kira?

What if...?

After hearing the story of Kira and the ways he had killed, many murderers appeared, making their kills look like accidents so it could be blamed on a supernatural force like Kira. However, the only time another "Kira" appeared, was the next time a death note was dropped to the earth. Someone found the death note, and started off on a similar path as Light.. They only killed high-ranking, terrible criminals, and though they were similar to Light in that regard, the ways they went about it were anything but similar. They opened up an "underground" hospital where those unable to get organ transplants, blood transplants, etc could come and have them done for free. However, what none of the patients knew is that it wasn't a coincidence that the doctor always happened to have an organ or blood donor. The cause of death was written that they would arrive at the doctor's hospital before donating (all) their blood and/or organs.

What if...?

In a super-modern version of death note, Mello and Matt would both have blogs on tumblr, and stupid memes and other things from the website would slip into their every day speech. Using christmas as an example, Matt would be the one to scream "I'M GONNA FUCK THE CHRISTMAS TREE" with Mello responding "DON'T FUCK THE CHRISTMAS TREE." Far more than that had slipped into everyday conversation, and they both agreed this website ruined them.

What if...?

After the appearance of L's successors, Light finds himself disliking flowers more and more, especially perennials. He finds that they remind him of L. The flowers seem to die, but are reborn again later, and it reminds Light far too much of the fact that he thought he was through with L, before his successors showed up and continued on for him. Upon this realization, Light immediately brought himself to L's grave and planted petunia's near it. He felt it would be both a fitting "tribute" and a way to speak his feelings towards the fact that it's fitting, as petunias can represent anger and resentment.

What if...? (Continued from last post)

When Matt saw Near for the first time since the major changes to his face, he could only stand and stare in awe for several moments. When he finally worked up the will to talk, all that would allow itself out of his mouth was "dude, you look like fucking Link!" Near had no idea who or what Matt was talking about, but assumed it was a compliment, since he realized Matt couldn't stop staring at him for the rest of the time they were together.

What if...?

When Near got older, he never really outgrew his baby face. While he certainly did look older than he had, he still had a soft-featured face, similar to Link's face in LOZ Twilight princess. While they wouldn't look exactly the same (obviously), his facial structure would be similar, and both would have faces that could be considered pretty.
