Last Post.
Looks like there is literally a two step process to winning at life:
1- Never procrastinate (get into the habit of doing things when you are not in the mood to do it).
2- Whatever you are doing, keep doing it till you succeed. (Like playing the game of darts..you keep throwing keep throwing till one hits the bullseye).
I want to cry.
Anyway, last post so see ya never mothhafookers.

Hello Internet!
Today, I’m doing a master study. This is where you look at the art of somebody you admire and try to emulate it. In this process you understand composition, how colour works and how texture works. Also, you should avoid using a colour picker and try to estimate the colour with your eyes. I just started this one. Will post the finished product within a few hours. :D
Some might think man you are just copying what kind of artist does that make you? It is honestly exactly the same as an aspiring musician playing covers of his or her favorite singer! And guess what even Leonardo Da Vinci used to copy the works of other artists till he perfected his understanding of anatomy, colour and everything. So go ahead! Copy without fear as long as you are doing it only to learn and not presenting it as your original work. :)

The drawing process with pictures..Starting with line art and then values and then textures and then shadows and highlights and finally added a little hue saturation for cinematic effect. this is drawing without a direct reference so I basically had to draw from imagination. I usually take photos and draw directly from the photos so all the information is already there. here I had to use my understanding of light and shades to get this.. difficulty level : beginner but progress has been made..ill show u in the next post.

How does one think of ideas? The dull truth is that you just sit there, and think! If you can't think, you just sit there!

Isn't it ironic? We ignore the ones who adore us, adore those who ignore us, hurt those who love us and love those who hurt us.
Ellen Hopkins.
This couldn’t be truer. I’m obsessing about people who are not in my life and discounting the people who are. I must take a step back and just be really kind to everyone and most importantly, just let go of the others.
So what I’ve realised is that we only ever adore somebody because we want to be like them on some level. We want to have the qualities that they do, we want to be perceived as they are, we want to have the abilities that they have.
I genuinely believe that every quality is already fundamentally a part of every human being. It is only a matter of believing that you are that kind person, for you to become that person. When we see someone that we admire, all we want to do is read about them, read what they’ve written, listen to them, talk to them and this is because in them, you recognise something that has always been a part of you. You just never acknowledged it before!
For instance, if you see a really intelligent, enterprising, insightful person , you are like ,” WOW you are SO cool!” You wish that you were friends so that you could talk and know more about this person who has these amazing qualities that resonate with your very soul. But you know what? To that person, you are really annoying. They will be polite at first but they get tired of you and stop responding because they have better things to do. When there is no reciprocation, it is time for you to stop out of self-respect and realise that it is not that person’s fault for not wanting to be your friend. You probably have nothing to offer to them and that is okay.
Just say, “This was great! I learnt a lot! Thank you SO much for stopping by! I will make it my goal to internalise all these qualities that I admire in you so much and I will BECOME the kind of person that I admire.”
BECOME the kind of person that you would admire. Yes..this sounds right. :)

To all the entrepreneurs out there waiting for the “next big thing”
STOP waiting. There are already enough products out there which could be better.
Here is how you can find opportunities.
1- Pick a product that is very dear to you and that is something that you would use.
2- Go on youtube and watch a billion review videos if you cannot afford to buy the product yourself.
3- Analyse the pros and cons.
4- Think of a product with the pros of all those existing products and which erases the cons with some more pros..you see where I’m going with this?
5- BAM. New product idea. Ofcourse you need to do market research and feasibility tests and all that but STOP WAITING DAMMIT.
Someone needs to fix the mess in the market so that when one day our planet is abducted by aliens and they are going through our stuff, it can save us from utter total absolute shame.

thasright.

What if AI takes over art?
What if all the jobs in the world that are currently held by artists are taken over by artificial intelligence? What if in order to create a great piece of art, all you need to do is put in some inputs and the computer will render the output with all the knowledge in the world about styles, color theory, strokes and this rendered image is nothing like anything a human has ever made before? What if you do not even need to give inputs and the computer can just think of original pieces that could put da vinci to shame? Would that be the end? Would graphic designers, concept artists, storyboard artists, art directors, illustrators, fine artists cease to exist because anyone in the world can make art like a pro (WITHIN SECONDS that too) and so you don’t need people to make them anymore?
Well here is what I think.
Nobody and I mean NOBODY ever chooses art for a living if they do not absolutely feel like it is the only thing that justifies their existence on this planet. You definitely don’t get into art for the money or the jobs. The opportunities that enable us to make money doing what we love is just the most wonderful miracle in the world because you know what? If the world were to end today and society officially no longer exists, you will still find me sitting in a corner with my sketchbook trying to draw whatever remains of the world. Art is a fundamental human expression. When we are happy, we smile. When we feel fantastic, we sing and we dance. When we feel inspired by what we see or by what we feel, we draw. So even if artificial intelligence says, “Humans, your drawings are pathetic. They serve no purpose so you might as well stop because I’m like totally killing it right now.” , people would still draw. They will always draw. Drawing will forever exist and no robot in the world can stop us.

If something is important enough, you should try, even if the probable outcome is failure.
Elon Musk
I have a very special project that I’m going to undertake. This project is basically an idea for a product that was the result of my deep deep anger at the existing ones. A wise person then told me, “Anger creates passion creates resolve creates good products.” (can someone make this into a bumper sticker please.)
There is no ego involved in this. I just really want this product to exist. Even if someone else releases it before I do, I wouldn’t be mad because I feel like it is pretty inevitable. Everything in our world is moving in that direction till we fulfill the prophecy that the Jetsons created.
So here’s to trying...even if the probable outcome is failure...because it is important enough to us...okay now I’m just repeating the above quote like a dingbat.

When you make music, you’re forming these invisible vibrations in the air into different shapes and consistencies and speeds in order to create music, and understanding how the math of that works just gives you more colors to paint with, and allows you to get to what you want quicker.
Flea
When I first saw flea, I didn’t take him seriously because he looked like a homeless bum. But never has a more enlightened or intelligent man walked the planet. He is right up there with Frusciante in the people whose thoughts serve as my spiritual teachers. They are very instrumental in how I view the world and everything in it. They changed me forever

The truth about a drawing Part 2
So funnily enough, the Michael Jackson one was the one that was closer to the period when I was taking drawing classes. I took classes briefly for a year in 04-05 when I was 11 or 12. See..what I’m trying to say is that drawing is not just about formal training (the classes were very very helpful to learn about strokes and shades though). Drawing is a journey in which you learn the truth. This truth appears to you in the form of an epiphany and your world is simply not the same again. The MJ drawing is the very first time I attempted to draw a human being . Till then I used to think that drawing at a level where you replicate reality is reserved for the gifted few. But when I looked at my reference image (which itself was a pencil drawing of MJ), I realised something that changed the way I look at the world forever. I realised that every drawing is just a series of lines on a piece of paper in different combinations. So, if I were to place these lines in the exact same spot on blank piece of paper as the reference, then my image should be EXACTLY like the original! That little piece of knowledge is what suddenly gave me the courage to try realism and push myself by drawing difficult facial expressions or wrinkles or cloth. I ofcourse have a loooooooong way to go, but you know what? I’ll get there because now I’ve realised that all ANYONE needs to draw, is a pair of eyes. That is all.
P.S. the number of drawings between the MJ and the Dumbledore one are just 10 or so. It didn’t take me 100s of drawings to get there…My shading improved almost instantaneously after the MJ one and the reason it spans over 6 years is because drawing was only a hobby till January of 2016. I was pursuing a finance course so I would only draw during my free time. So, the level of improvement for you should occur within a few months because once you know the truth, there is simply no excuse!

How to create (draw) something from nothing
(This article is written with me and my learning process in mind so it might not make sense to you but this is important for me to understand what I’m learning.)
So you want to draw something. Here are the most important things to keep in mind.
1- The most important thing while drawing something from nothing is an idea. This is your intellectual property so guard it well. Also, sometimes, it takes just as long to come up with a concept as it does for executing or drawing and painting the piece. How do you think of an idea? You just sit, and think! The process is as simple as that. Just sit and think. Practice channeling ideas rather than relying on pinterest or some other similar source for inspiration.
2- The second most important thing is gathering references for your concept. Now, it is important to remember that though you intend to create something out of nothing, your designs must be grounded. It must be something that is fundamentally what a human being can understand but cannot recognise. This is for concept art so if you are a designer of any sort, shoo.
3- Then, we must draw thumbnails. Here, the focus is on mastering composition. You can try cinematic composition, or think of different lenses like the fish eye lens, wide angle lens..etc. The basic blocks of any composition are the foreground, mid ground and the background. Value wise, foreground is the darkest while the background is the lightest.
4- An important element of composition is scale and drama. In order to show something at an epic scale, put it next to something that a human already knows the size of. For example, if you want to draw an epic gate like the one in the lord of the rings, show a dot sized human (It is important that the dot suggests a human figure and is not a random dot) entering the gate! Also, when you show two things overlapping, it indicates depth. So remember, scale and depth can make your painting pretty epic.
5- While drawing your thumbnails, it helps to forget about all rules such as perspective, correct forms, anatomy etc. Here, we want to focus on large shapes and silhouettes. We do not care about the details.
6- Once you’ve finalised on your thumbnail, you proceed to the line art part of the process. Here, we try to get as detailed as possible and try to suggest curves, depths and other things which are usually done with values, through lines.
7- Before painting anything in color, it helps to lay down the values. To make the painting realistic, don’t use large strokes to apply values but replicate the texture in black and white..The texture of steel in black and white would be a white base with extremely thin light grey strokes that are close together. The texture of wood would be a dark grey base with black or darker grey strokes that are uneven. These dark strokes indicate the depressions in the wood so you must add light grey strokes next to them to highlight the higher areas that catch light. So If you are drawing a table, and it is in the foreground, don’t just add a dark value throughout but first add texture and then overlay shadows of the surrounding objects on it if any.
Must follow this up with pictures. Will do it soon.

The content on my other blog 3 years back...
2013 Me: I am just so colossally bored with my life right now, that I actually tried to pet a fly that sat on my hand. The fly flew away leaving behind a teeny tiny brown puddle. There was a little deliberation on whether to lick it but since I didn't recall eating anything brown that day, I had come to the conclusion that that brown puddle was infact the fly's pee. Ew.

“If it falls to your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music … Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.”

I found this quote on the blog I kept as a teenager which is filled with dramatic emo stories and an excessive use of a thesaurus in every sentence.
But I love that this was something that deeply moved me even then..That such thoughts have always been a part of my soul and always will be.
