A couple would sit down and cry, a couple more would pitch tantrums in the middle of a street. At least one would take several weeks to get back to DC, not because of difficulty navigating, but because they'd get on a Greyhound bus, get off at nearly every little town they passed thru, land at a diner or pub or something & hang with the locals, and have a marvelous time of it. Probably get drafted to be the grand marshal of a few of the quirky festivals little towns like that have--Watermelon Days, Azalea Fest, et cetera.

Can we make a rule that any who try to pay or threaten civilians to give them a ride automatically lose their seat in congress? :D I mean there need to be some stakes involved here. Get some skin in the game people.

each year congress people should be required to go on a field trip where they each get dumped in the middle of a random u.s. town & handed a phone with google maps & forced to find their way back to washington solely through the use of local public transportation systems.

to be clear i don't think this would improve our political reality in any way, but it would be fun to watch

EZGIF is also terrific for converting files from one format to another! like when you think you are saving a great pic as a jpg, then you look and it's that shitty, whaddyacallit, webp thing? wtf is that anyway? you can change it in file manager, but some places still don't like it, so sometimes the best option is just upload it to EZGIF and change it.

Depending on the achievement, you might be able to extend that period of basking much, MUCH longer!

I was able, despite being in no way a handy-person, to install a new handle and latch on my screen door (thanks in large part to a kind soul on reddit who posted a step by step, explain like I'm 5, walkthru) and even now, several months later, every time I go in or out and hear that nice new perfectly fitted latch click shut, I smile to myself and think 'yeah, I did that'. lol (I'm easy to entertain though.)

If you have achieved something, please remember to observe a mandatory period of basking in the warm glow of your achievement like a lizard on a stone, lest you teach your brain that effort is futile, actually, because it didn't get to enjoy its happy chemicals, so, naturally, nothing good ever comes of trying. (And no, avoiding punishment is not a reward!)

I recommend, like, 5% of basking time in relation to whatever time you invested into achieving the thing minimum. And if you can't make your own bask, friend-brought is fine (= tell your friends!).

The Chicken Salad War

Many years ago, I was hired to serve as the personal chef to the royal family of Askazer-Shivadlakia, a small nation I did not know well.

I had advertised my services as an elite personal chef, and had many offers, but the Shivadh king swayed me because of what he told me when we met: that he had only a passing interest in gourmet food, and that he was hiring the best chef he could find not as a status symbol or from personal desire, but as a gift for his wife on the occasion of their fifteenth wedding anniversary. I was charmed by such a gesture, explained in the king's excellent French, and pleased that he was interested to hire my brother Hugo as sommelier, a position which had been open for some time.

King Michaelis and his wife Queen Miranda had a little boy of four, and the family had suffered a tragedy which meant they sometimes cared for a young girl the same age, their son's cousin. I knew I had chosen my new job well when, arriving in the kitchen for the first time, two solemn little children were waiting to greet me in prattling French.

Simon LeFevre, chef to the royal family, has spent thirty years looking after the Palace children, and now their children's children. This year, in addition to his domestic duties, he's sitting on the planning committee for the Reclamation Day Festival, overseeing the food tents and cooking competition. Unfortunately he's been partnered up for the project with the city's newest chef, Mr. Ylias Lazaar, with whom he's already clashed over...ricotta.

Ylias, glad to be home where nobody blinks much at a woman who prefers male honorifics, is opening her own restaurant at last, and enjoys putting Simon on the back foot. When she claims she could improve on the curried chicken salad he served for Prince Noah's graduation party, they decide they'll both enter the yearly cooking competition -- and may the best man win.

I can't do much but maybe this will interest someone. This cookbook is by a classically trained autistic chef, made for people with sensory issues. It's sold 1/6th of its initial run because apparently no one wants to have an autistic person interviewed on TV.

Apparently it's also very funny.
