'Sesshoumaru-sama...!' she beckons for his attention, small hands fiddling with the fabric of her kimono before finally moving to lean in closer to him as though she needed to tell him a secret that could never be said aloud. ' Happy new year! Thank you for everything! ' she quickly plants a chaste kiss upon his cheek before running off.

            HE ACKNOWLEDGED HER DESIRE FOR HIS AUDIENCE, humming softly as she crawled next to him where they sat beneath the roof of an abandoned home ( the asylum chosen to keep at bay winter’s bitter breath ). & tiny fingers pressed against his ear as she muttered in nervous whispers —

            “…!!”

& BEFORE HE COULD respond, tiny lips laid against his cheek, briefly, before she took off, the flaps of her winter kimono sleeves fluttering behind her, as she made her way to where Jaken and Ah-Uh were gathered around their little fire.

HIS HAND FOUND its way to where she had kissed him, as he looked upon the child who had now engaged Jaken in a game of sugoroku. & a quick, haughty breath left him, as if he found he whole ordeal ridiculous, & he leaned back upon his fur, a foreign sensation of familial gentleness quietly glowing in his chest.

‘ Do you think... if I trained really hard that I could be a pokémon trainer like you one day? I wonder if Sesshoumaru-sama would let me travel with him again if become strong like you. ’

she leans in on the table, elbows resting on the surface as short legs swing back and forth over the edge of her chair. she’s already found such comfort in a strangers companionship. it was not that she was easily trusting, but more so a good judge of character. even at a young age, rin had been able to pick out those of good intentions ( it was their eyes she looked at / it is said that eyes are the gateway to the soul, after all. ) but then again, this stranger only seemed to reveal one eye; what else could he be hiding? 

‘ Coffee? That’s no good!! Y’know, coffee is really bad for your health-- Jaken-sama told me so! But, Sesshoumaru-sama’s brother-- Inuyasha-sama, drinks a lot of coffee ( maybe that’s why he seems to be in a bad mood a lot? ) and Sesshoumaru-sama says he’s a... de-que-lint? Dequelint! But I think he’s a good person anyways. And that’s why you shouldn’t drink coffee! ’

       fingers remain about his book- watching her brief struggle and almost offering to help although it seems there is no need. she talks so quickly, this too he supposes is just the way children are however, not that he minded in the slightest in fact it was sort of nice. this form of normalcy that is, although maybe a stranger freely talking to a little girl wasn’t exactly normal. 

( if hide was here he would 

        call me a creep.  .  . )

‘ i see, you must be really brave then. o-oh, yeah hot chocolate is really tasty, especially the type they have here but i’m drinking coffee right now. ’

she finally relaxes, approaching the other with much more comfort. there was something about the witch that simply didn’t exude much of ‘evil’ as rin had assumed they would have. ‘ That’s not too nice! I’m sorry I was so mean earlier. You seem like a pretty nice person!! Um, ’ she picks out a couple flowers from a small bouquet she had been gathering since earlier before holding them out towards the other. 

‘ Here! Something as an apology! ’

       ❝yes i promise and no witches aren’t all old women with warts. humans tend to fear us, so they make up stories to make us seem scarier. most witches you see look pretty young, at least in comparison to the stories you hear.❞

she opens her mouth to respond and yet, she doesn’t dare speak any words in argument. how many times had she pushed aside the thoughts of feeling so useless? how could she be of use to her savior? how could she ever repay the debt she owed him? he was her MESSIAH... no, he’d become more now. he was her FAMILY. but despite this sentiment, she could not, would not impose herself upon him. she would only be a BURDEN in his travels and she would never wish to be such an existence for him ( and yet... AND YET she still hopes to travel with him. ) 

gaze lowers, and though in her own way she attempts to hide her disappointment, it seeps out nonetheless. ‘ Yes, Sesshoumaru-sama. ’

            THE LANDS HE TRAVELED WERE TREACHEROUS, worlds unfitting for such a small child – demons & humans alike were merciless, & the company that she needed would never be found in those born wicked. For all his power & prowess, human socialization was not something neither he nor Jaken could offer. Beyond Naraku were creatures more heinous, & the protection he offered was not worth the companionship offered only by her kind.

            “NO, RIN.”

TELLING HER NO is a foreign feeling, he realizes. She’s never requested for something he could not give.

            “YOU ARE STILL too young.”

‘ Thank you, mister! ’ with admittedly a little struggle, she climbs up on the chair and settles down ( why did they have to make chairs so tall?? ) huffing softly, she beckons the attention of an employee to order a cup of hot chocolate ( ‘ make sure to put extra extra marshmallows! ’ ) before turning her attention back to the stranger. of course, she was never one to stay quiet in these situations. 

‘ Parents? Hmm, no. I have Sesshoumaru-sama though--! He’s out for work right now so I thought I’d go and run some errands meanwhile! It’s not scary. I know my way home and everything! ’ she truly wasn’t supposed to leave and go out on her own. she was supposed to go with jaken-sama for anything she needed. but, he’d been asleep and simply refused to wake! so, in the end, she’d simply taken it up upon herself to get them done ( after all, what could possibly happen? ) 

‘ By the way, what’re you drinking? Did you also get hot chocolate? It’s the best, isn’t it! ’

‘ huh, o-oh no, i don’t mind, feel free. ’ 

       he glances about her- indeed this particular place was packed although no one else seemed to be standing. 

( such a small girl out on her own ? ) 

‘ hey your parents or someone wouldn’t happen to be around would they ? i mean, are you out all on your own ? that seems pretty scary. ’

‘ Um... ’ there is clear hesitation in her voice, gaze dropping as small digits fumble with the fabric of her kimono. she knew she was free to ask ( such a BENEVOLENT youkai as sesshoumaru-sama was too kind towards her ), but yet, she still hesitates nonetheless. finally speaking up, gaze raises again. 

‘ Can’t I come with you this time? I’ve been learning a lot with grandma Kaede, but I wish-- I was hoping that to travel a bit with you again! ’
